The Garbage Sifter , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 515min
This fast-paced thriller ensnares intelligence agents, drug cartel overlords, and politicians in a twisted web of deceit and deception. Camila Sanchez, an Argentinian garbage sifter, finds a partially shredded confidential CIA document among her overnight collection of refuse. This document describes a program to hack into the Argentine Intelligence agencies' databases, including e-mails, and to glean details of their relationship with the powerful Mexican Gulf cartel. Camila considers this find as treasure and sells the information to the Argentine Intelligence Secretariat. Armed with this knowledge, the Argentines begin to feed misinformation to the CIA. Crusading anti-drug activists are falsely portrayed as being secretly in the pay of the cartel leading to numerous arrest warrants. Information and misinformation flows freely on the corrupted e-mail system but one Gulf Cartel directive surprises both the Argentines and the Americans: "Activate Rosario 5." Rosario 5 proves to be a highly effective sex stimulant that threatens to overwhelm the youth of America and Argentina. "Paradise Parties", mimicking the San Francisco sexual orgies of the past, become commonplace and pervasive. Both societies are deeply threatened. A cooperative effort between the two countries to eradicate the curse ensues. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Danny L. Oringderff. Fuegians
Fuegians are the indigenous inhabitants of Tierra del Fuego, at the southern tip of South America. In English, the term originally referred to the Yaghan people of Tierra del Fuego. In Spanish, the term fueguino can refer to any person from the archipelago. The indigenous Fuegians belonged to several tribes including the Ona (Selk'nam), Haush (Manek'enk), Yahgan (Yámana), and Alacaluf (Kawésqar). All of these tribes except the Selk'nam lived exclusively in coastal areas. The Yaghans and the Alacaluf traveled by canoes around the islands of the archipelago, while the coast dwelling Haush did not. The Selk'nam lived in the interior of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego and lived mainly by hunting guanacos. The Fuegian peoples spoke several distinct languages: both the Kawésqar language and the Yaghan language are considered language isolates, while the Selk'nams spoke a Chon language like the Tehuelches on the mainland. When Europeans, Chileans and Argentines studied and settled on the islands in the mid-19th century, they brought with them diseases such as measles and smallpox for which the Fuegians had no immunity.- Shop: buecher

Before the Swarm , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 47min
Intrepid naturalist Mark Moffett is tracking an ant species on a march toward bug-world domination. What a controversial theory of insect society may tell us about our own. Mark Moffett doesn't just study ants, he travels among them. Moffet holds a Harvard Ph.D. in entomology and is an accomplished scientist, an award-winning author and journalist, and one of the best nature photographers of his generation. Years ago, this free-spirited naturalist left academia behind to plunge into the deepest jungles and observe insect societies up close. Now author Nicholas Griffin takes us inside Moffett's own world, to explore his death-cheating quest for discovery and his end-run around the scientific establishment. We'll follow Moffett into the rainforest as he chases a groundbreaking theory of ant superorganisms and supercolonies, one that may help us understand our own increasingly urbanized society. Along the way we'll meet a fascinating cast of battling army ants, farming leafcutter ants, and the insatiable Argentines: an ant species built to take over the world. Nicholas Griffin is the author of four novels and one work of nonfiction. He lives in New York City. His next book comes out in 2013. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Nicholas Griffin. Forgotten Voices of the Falklands, Hörbuch, Digital, 678min
In April 1982, Argentina surprised the world by invading the Falkland Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The tiny islands had long been the subject of a fierce territorial dispute between Argentina and the UK, and the occupation quickly escalated into a terrifying full-blown conflict between the two countries. Overcoming the difficulties of conducting a war at the most enormous distance from home and during the Antarctic winter, British troops successfully landed on the Falklands; the Argentine response led to growing casualties on both sides. At sea, losses included HMS Sheffield and Coventry and the Argentinian cruiser General Belgrano. Facing extreme conditions, British troops fought their way across demanding territory to retake the Falkland Islands. This is a record of the defeat of the Argentines in a series of engagements the names of which have become legendary - Goose Green, Two Sisters, Mount Tumbledown - and ends with the liberation of Port Stanley itself. Drawing upon the vast resources of the Imperial War Museum's Sound Archive, Forgotten Voices of the Falklands presents the first complete oral history of the Falklands War. This audiobook is a unique and essential chronicle of the conflict from all sides and perspectives, told in the participants' own voices. Language: English. Narrator: Sean Barrett.
