Confessions of a Hayseed DA (eBook, ePUB)
In the 1960s, the small county of Rockland, north of New York City, went through a period of rapid expansion. Although beneficial, this explosive growth also led to the unwelcome encroachment of crime like the county had never seen before. Enter Robert Meehan, a young, idealistic defense attorney who hatched an impossible scheme to become the first Democrat elected District Attorney of Rockland County in more than half a century. In this compelling page-turner, Meehan takes us through his journey from naive do-gooder to seasoned prosecutor, investigating and solving heinous crimes and surviving an attempt on his life that upended his family's world. This manuscript, completed in 1978, was discovered by Meehan's daughter years after his passing. She has edited the text, researched cases cited by her father, and interviewed some of the key players whose names appear within these pages.- Shop: buecher

The Spark , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 700min
In the time of the Ancients the universe was united - but that was so far in the past that not even memory remains, only the broken artifacts that a few Makers can reshape into their original uses. What survives is shattered into enclaves - some tiny, some ruined, some wild. Into the gaps between settlements, and onto the road that connects all human reality and the reality that is not human and may never have been human, have crept monsters. Some creatures are men, twisted into inhuman evil; some of them are alien to Mankind - and there are things which are hostile to all life, things which will raven and kill until they are stopped. A Leader has risen, welding the scattered human settlements together in peace and safety and smashing the enemies of order with an iron fist. In his capital, Dun Add, the Leader provides law and justice. In the universe beyond, his Champions advance - and enforce - the return of civilization. Pal, a youth from the sticks, has come to Dun Add to become a Champion. Pal is a bit of a Maker, and in his rural home he's been able to think of himself as a warrior because he can wield the weapons of the Ancient civilization. Pal has no idea of what he's really getting into in Dun Add. On the other hand, the Leader and Dun Add have no real idea of what might be inside this hayseed with high hopes. The Spark: A story of hope and violence and courage. And, especially, a story of determination. David Drake was attending Duke University Law School when he was drafted. He served the next two years in the Army, spending 1970 as an enlisted interrogator with the 11th Armored Cavalry in Vietnam and Cambodia. Upon return he completed his law degree at Duke and was for eight years Assistant Town Attorney for Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He has been a full-time freelance writer since 1981. His books include the genre-defining and best-selling Hammer's Slammers series, the nationally best-selling RCN seri ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: James Patrick Cronin. Disappearing Acts
Chuck Butterworth There are two kinds of people in the world. And Chuck ain't one of them. Chuck's music is not made for the general public. Neither is he, for that matter. First release in 40 years. It's the economy, Genius. Lazy old musician finally hits 10,000-hour mark. Who is Chuck? Real like butter. The best we can tell, Chuck Butterworth is a singer-songwriter-musician who's eclectically charged--with a power source all his own. The wit and grit in Chuck's lyrics let you in on some kind of inside joke and that all-too-familiar heartache. His originals will have you laughing, crying, and wondering. Where's Chuck been? A natural progression from a high tone/low tone past. Chuck has been afflicted with music since he was 14, and he wrote the first of over 400 songs at age 16. He plays guitar, harmonica, keyboards, penny whistle---and he's not even ashamed to pick the banjo. An original member of Birmingham's The Bassmen in high school, Chuck's been playing around ever since. At Auburn University, Chuck and the other Candy Store Prophets headlined for such infamous annual events as the Hayseed Party and The Grain Alcohol Bash. Throughout the 1970's, Chuck played mostly acoustic music with Eddie Robinson in Birmingham and The Part-time Band in Auburn. Just to build his character, Chuck loaded the U-Haul and moved to Nashville in 1987 where he wrote and performed. Yet another savvy career move found him flipping burgers at Brown's Diner. Figuring he'd built enough character to last a while, Chuck returned to Birmingham and happiness in 1993 to be with his childhood friend Mary. They married in 1997. These days Chuck plays lead guitar and sings with Lost in the Ozone, featuring his old pal Eddie Robinson and other great local talents, and plays his originals around town, as well as teaching 20+ students guitar weekly. What Does Chuck play? Folk-lectic at it's finest. A unique and timeless mix of folk, blues, and country. Originally influenced by old-time rock and roll, today Chuck's music also reflects the inspiration of the folk era, Irish ballads, and classic country. Chuck has developed a style that's smooth, rich, and real as, well, butter. Sit back, relax, and let Chuck's cool grooves, hot licks, and fun, one-of-a-kind lyrics transport you to a better place. Your ears will thank you.- Shop: odax
