The Negro in Sacred History, or, Ham and His Immediate Descendants , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 198min
Dr. Joseph Elias Hayne (1848-1911) was a physician and minister of the American Methodist Episcopal Church. He was one of a number of early black writers who challenged white racist theories that demeaned people of African origin. In his book The Negro in Sacred History (1887), he sought to refute all prejudices against black people by tracing the descendants of the biblical Ham with reference to archaeological and historical scholarship. Hayne argued that Ham was Noah’s favorite son and identified the Mediterranean deity Jupiter Ammon as a representative figure of Ham. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Hal Saunders. Letters to Elise: A Peter Townsend Novella (My Blood Approves) , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 168min
April 19, 1836 I'm writing this in the corner of the room with trembling hands. The candle long since burned out, and I sit in darkness, yet I can see perfectly. I wanted to believe this was some parlor trick, that the man who found me was merely a magician or a doctor, but I'm unable to refute it any longer. My name is Peter James Monroe, and I am a vampyre. In My Blood Approves, Peter Townsend fell in love with Alice Bonham, but she wasn't his first love. In a new novella told through his letters, his history is revealed. ungekürzt. Language: English. On Christian Doctrine: The Enchiridion , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 215min
The Enchiridion, or as it is sometimes titled, Faith, Hope, and Love, is a short treatise on Christian piety, written in response to a request soon after the death of St. Jerome in 420. The essay was meant to serve as a model for Christian instruction (catechesis). As the title suggests, the treatise is organized around faith, hope, and love, the three graces necessary for the Christian worship of God. For the topic of faith, Augustine makes use of the Apostles' Creed, both to teach doctrine and to refute heresies. For hope, he expounds on the Lord's Prayer as a perfect example of Christian prayer. The final section is on Christian love. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jarret Lemaster. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/222092/bk_acx0_222092_sample.mp3. Signature in the Cell: DNA and the Evidence for Intelligent Design , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 1156min
Named one of the top books of 2009 by the Times Literary Supplement (London), this controversial and compelling audiobook from Dr. Stephen C. Meyer presents a convincing new case for intelligent design (ID) based on revolutionary discoveries in science and DNA. Along the way Meyer argues that Charles Darwin's theory of evolution as expounded in The Origin of Species did not, in fact, refute ID. If you enjoyed Francis Collins' The Language of God, you'll find much to ponder - about evolution, DNA, and intelligent design - in Signature in the Cell. On Holy Virginity: With a Brief Account of the Life of St. Ambrose: Linked to the Bible , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 145min
St. Ambrose (CE 340-397), bishop of Milan, felt strongly that virginity was one of the principle virtues. He was very successful in persuading maidens to adopt chaste religious vocations, so much so that many a mother refused to permit her daughter to listen to him. At one point, the saint was compelled to refute the accusation that he was depopulating the state. He did this by appealing to the young men of his age that they should not have any difficulty in finding wives. In this famous book, he argues that the experience of history and logic asserts that the population increases in direct proportion to the high regard in which virginity is held. He also goes on to give a detailed and scriptural argument in favor of virginity. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Larry Odom. The Woman with the Alabaster Jar: Mary Magdalen and the Holy Grail , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 391min
Margaret Starbird's theological beliefs were profoundly shaken when she read Holy Blood, Holy Grail, a book that dared to suggest that Jesus Christ was married to Mary Magdalen and that their descendants carried on his holy bloodline in Western Europe. Shocked by such heresy, this Roman Catholic scholar set out to refute it but instead found new and compelling evidence for the existence of the bride of Jesus - the same enigmatic woman who anointed him with precious unguent from her "alabaster jar". In this provocative book, Starbird draws her conclusions from an extensive study of history, heraldry, symbolism, medieval art, mythology, psychology, and the Bible itself. The Woman with the Alabaster Jar is a quest for the forgotten feminine - in the hope that its return will help restore a healthy balance to planet Earth. ungekürzt. Language: English.
