Ebby Thatcher and Bill Wilson: The Pre-History of Alcoholics Anonymous , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 96min
Listen to the pre-history of Alcoholics Anonymous, narrated by two of the people who were part of its most important, formative events. Ebby Thatcher, the man who brought the message to Bill Wilson, shares how he was helped to sobriety by Rowland Hazard and other Oxford Group members, how he carried the message to Bill, and the early developments of the AA fellowship. AA co-founder Bill Wilson discusses the two streams of influence that led to AA. First, Bill tells the story of Rowland Hazard and how, after having failed to achieve lasting sobriety through ideas from Dr. Carl Jung, he took Jung's final piece of advice - to immerse himself in some sort of spiritual program. Practicing the principles of the Oxford Group, Rowland brought the message of sobriety to Ebby Thatcher. During the second part of Bill's talk, he describes how Dr. Silkworth came to an understanding of alcoholism and its treatment and how Dr. Silkworth helped him: first, by preparing Bill to receive the message and then, by providing him a medical detox and professional assurance. Finally, he gave him the advice that enabled him to carry the message to another AA co-founder, Dr. Bob Smith. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Ebby Thatcher, Bill Wilson, A Bill Friend. After the Tears: Helping Adult Children of Alcoholics Heal Their Childhood Trauma , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 529min
The trauma and grief of growing up in an alcoholic or addicted family create a lifetime of baggage. If you grew up in an addicted family, the dysfunction that permeated every aspect of your childhood may have seemed "normal", and you may not even realize the level of affect alcohol still has on your adult life - whether or not you drink. If you are one of the millions of Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACOAs), the cost of your childhood pain can be unbearable. You may have learned how to "survive", but are you "living" your life? Do you fear normal conflict? Do you blame yourself when something goes wrong - even when it isn't your fault? Are you a chaos junkie? Or do you just fear relationships because they are too difficult or too painful? Having devoted much of their careers to working with ACOAs, therapists Jane Middelton-Moz and Lorie Dwinell now take a deeper look into the origin and cost of childhood pain, as well as the grief resolution process that is integral to recovery. This revised and expanded edition of their groundbreaking 1986 hit After the Tears discusses the latest research and offers insights on living a good life despite a dysfunctional childhood by tackling issues such as intimacy, sibling relationships, codependency, breaking the alcoholic pattern, building a relationship with the inner child, forgiveness, and opening a window to spirituality. How to Deal With Alcoholics And Alcoholism: Steps And Tips Dealing With an Alcoholic , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 64min
Are you trying to deal with an alcoholic, a friend or relative that alcoholism is their way of living? It can be really difficult living or dealing with a close friend or a family member that is drinking to get 'drunk' one, two times a week (and in a lot of cases, daily). If you find yourself in this situation, I believe my book will help you out. I will first share two of my experiences and stories and then I will offer suggestions as to what I feel may help you. I, the author of this book, have lived and dealt with several drunks in my life. I know the symptoms, and I know how to deal with them. This book has two true stories of mine. Alcohol is addictive. You will find many people who will argue with this statement, but alcohol fits all the definitions of a harmful and addictive drug; 1. You need to take more and more of it to get the same effect 2. Your body becomes physically dependent on alcohol. 3. People die from alcohol abuse. An alcoholic is someone who has become physically dependent on alcohol. Alcoholism is permanent, it cannot be cured. An ex-alcoholic is simply one who has not had alcohol for a long time. If the "ex"-alcoholic has one drink, they are hooked again and have to go through the whole drying out process again. Given the toxic nature of alcohol, if the substance was discovered today, it would never be licensed as a drug or food. It is only the entrenched nature of the alcohol industry and the fact that so many jobs depend on it that makes it politically unacceptable to ban alcohol. Not only does alcoholism effect the one drinking, but it affects everyone around them too, from family and friends, to total strangers. The alcoholic does not see their drinking as a problem. When it comes to driving, they always feel as though they are fine behind the wheel. How to Deal With Alcoholics And Alcoholism. Thousands of people die each year due to drunk driving. Most people know of at least ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Claton Butcher. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/002278/bk_acx0_002278_sample.mp3. Summary and Analysis of Blackout: Remembering the Things I Drank to Forget , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 47min
Learn About One Woman's Struggle with Alchohol Addiction and the Backouts She Experienced in a Fraction of the Time It Takes to Read the Actual Book! The book Blackout is different from other books about recovering alcoholics. This book is not just for people who are recovering from alcoholism, it is also for people who know alcoholics. Sarah explains how alcohol was her way for dealing with life's problems. This caused her to grow up without actually learning how to deal with problems on her own. She views alcohol as a crutch that prevented her from dealing with emotional and spiritual issues. When a person reads/listens to Blackout, they are able to get an idea into what it was like to live life in such a way. This book is also unique because it looks at alcoholism from the perspective of a woman. Sarah explains how society views women alcoholics different from men alcoholics. There are many things that an alcoholic woman has to deal with that an alcoholic man does not have to deal with including rape. Many of these issues have not been explored, and Sarah is one of the first people to bring it to the attention of the public. Sarah makes sure that she is accountable and responsible for everything that happened in her life, and she does not blame her situation on anyone else.
