DiscipleTrip: Live the Adventure , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 259min
Today's young adults are the most unchurched generation of the last 100 years. In fact, 65% rarely or never attend a religious gathering, 38% admit to praying rarely or never, and 67% rarely or never read the Bible. I believe that it is time for the church to begin to tell a better story about our faith.Do you remember when you said yes to Jesus? Do you remember the joyful urgency that existed deep in your bones?I sure do.I believe that desire is meant to grow stronger as we become more spiritually mature. Jesus didn’t call us to a life of dry religiosity. Nor did he ever intend for our faith be on display on Sunday morning alone. For those of us in Christ, every day is a mission trip. And every relationship is an opportunity to live out the greatest calling of all time: to follow Jesus by leveraging every opportunity to guide others on their journey of life.I believe discipleship is simpler than we may have previously imagined. In fact, I believe maximum impact is as simple as walking in close proximity to Jesus, while in the company of others. We are not an audience, but rather an army. ungekürzt. Language: English. One.Life: Jesus Calls, We Follow , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 366min
What is the 'Christian life' all about? Studying the Bible, attending church, cultivating a prayer life, witnessing to others---those are all good. But is that really what Jesus has in mind? The answer, says Scot McKnight in One.Life, lies in Jesus' words, 'Follow me.'What does it look like to follow Jesus, and how will doing so change the way we live our life---our love.life, our justice.life, our peace.life, our community.life, our sex.life---everything about our life. One.Life will open your eyes to the full, compelling immensity of what it means to be a Christian. 'Jesus offers to us a kingdom dream that transforms us to the very core of our being,' says Scot McKnight. 'His vision is so big we are called to give our entire life to it. His vision is so big it swallows up our dreams.'Discover exactly what Jesus meant when he announced the arrival of God's kingdom. Equipping you with a new understanding of that kingdom's radical nature, One.Life shares profound, challenging, and practical insights on how to demonstrate its reality in your life.In many ways, what The Cost of Discipleship by Bonhoeffer challenged Christians to do in earlier generations, One.Life will do for a new generation. One.Life will call you beyond the flatlands of religiosity toward a kingdom vision that will shape everything you do. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Tom Parks. The Stones of Mithras: Poems of the Light , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 128min
The Stones of Mithras is a beautiful and evocative book of poetry and prose from author and actor Tim Dalgleish. This contemporary traveler's tale is full of unforgettable historical images of lost and ancient cities (especially those of Spain). The poems talk of the inspiration of great art, philosophizing over a cup of coffee, Greek and Roman architecture and mythology and the joy of sitting in parks and imagining the exploits of travelers and writers that went before, from Marco Polo to Maimonides to Marcuse, El Greco and Lorca and even the romance of acting Shakespeare. The author describes the poems as "secular religiosity, a non-believer's paganism reflecting my joy at splashing about in the cross currents that blended Roman, Visigoth, Muslim, Jew and Christian in the great mezcla that is Spanish history." He adds: "If you have the feeling of freedom in your heart you begin to look at all things in the world, cornflowers, cigarettes, smoke, clouds, sky, statues, whatever is nearest to hand or vividly remembered as embodied with, soaked in, painted by, the simple magic of light. Light and especially sunlight has always made me feel everything good is possible. In a world of tragedy and chaos, an individual needs a place, a feeling, a hideout, to settle and renew their thoughts and energies. For me a sun-filled day is that hideout." ungekürzt. Scarpia , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 762min
Man is a delicate mechanism...he can easily be set off course. It is the late 18th century, and a young Sicilian nobleman, Vitellio Scarpia, finds himself penniless and in disgrace on the streets of Rome. After leaving his home to pursue a military career, his impulsive and undisciplined nature has led to his expulsion from Spanish royal guard, and he must now seek his fortune in Italy - a fortune inseparably bound up with the ruler of the Eternal City, the Pope. Scarpia enrolls in the papal army and becomes the lover of an alluring countess who introduces him into Roman society, with its blend of religiosity, sophistication, and intrigue. Half enthralled, half appalled, Scarpia enjoys the life of the decadent city, learning in due course that as an unsophisticated provincial he is no match for the worldliness of Rome. Patronized by a powerful cardinal, Scarpia is sent on a mission to Venice, where he encounters the beautiful, exquisitely gifted singer Floria Tosca. As the armies of revolutionary France invade Italy, and war and revolution engulf the whole peninsula, the lives of the two become fatefully entwined. Piers Paul Read brilliantly reimagines the infamous villain of Puccini's opera, Tosca, telling a story that shines a light into the dusty corridors of history and the dark corners of the human soul. ungekürzt. Jewish Foreign Trade Officials on Trial (eBook, ePUB)
This book deals with six trials, conducted by the Romanian state against Jewish key officials employed in state-owned import-export companies between 1950 and 1960. It begins with a presentation of the political realities of Romania following the Communist Party's rise to power, in particular those regarding its relationship with Romania's Jews and Gheorghiu-Dej's policy of National Communism. Rozenberg describes the criminal procedure used in the staged economic trials follows and then examines this procedure based on the legal system of the period, as exemplified by the six analyzed trials. The Românoexport Jewish officials' trial is analyzed in depth, as the case study of the whole book. This book concludes by bringing to light two phenomena that dissipate some mystique surrounding the events: first, the state's practice of using its legal system as a means of oppressing the population; and second, the stereotypical image of "The Jew" which the regime in Romania developed. Despite its supposed anti-religiosity, it held on to centuries-old prejudices against Jews as pariahs, with supposed allegiance to foreign elements preferred over their surrounding society, even to the point of betraying and exploiting their own country.- Shop: buecher
