A Cup of Jo: Maggy Thorsen Mysteries, Book 6 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 354min
Maggy's heart, uncharacteristically, is swelling with optimism. Sure, her original Wisconsin coffeehouse, Uncommon Grounds, was destroyed in a freak early May blizzard. But, thanks to friend and new business partner, Sarah Kingston, a perfect location for its successor has been found in a quaint Brookhills railroad station recently revitalized by the creation of a commuter-rail connection between the old depot and the city of Milwaukee, fifteen miles east. Maggy and Sarah hope to piggyback the grand reopening of Uncommon Grounds on the media coverage of Dedication Day for the train's two terminal points. Maggy even digs deep into her development budget and commissions a giant inflatable Uncommon Grounds coffee cup for the celebrations. All seems perfectly poised for the great day, until Brookhills' in absentia event manager, JoLynne Penn-Williams, finally makes her appearance - as a corpse in Maggy's piece de resistance… ungekürzt. Under the Streets of Nice: The Bank Heist of the Century , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 235min
In 1976, Albert Spaggiari engineered the European crime of the century - a bank heist in Nice accomplished "without guns, without violence, without hate." Spaggiari and his gang of 20 men dug a 25-foot tunnel from the city's sewer system into the bank and lifted about $10 million in gold, jewelry, gems, and cash. Tracked down and captured, Spaggiari escaped from the French police by jumping out a window and onto the back of a motorcycle. Convicted in absentia and sentenced to life in prison, Spaggiari retired to a ranch in Argentina, but continued to taunt the European authorities for more than a decade. He died mysteriously in 1989, and the loot was never recovered. Here, authors Ken Follett ( Eye of the Needle, The Key to Rebecca) and René L. Maurice tell the breathtaking, compelling story of Spaggiari, his "sewer gang," and the most daring, outrageous theft of our time. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Roddy McDowall. The Instruments of Control: The Revanche Cycle, Volume 2 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 698min
Livia Serafini must die. To the church, she is a heretic, tried in absentia and sentenced to burn. To her brother, Carlo, she stands as a threat to his corrupt rule and a symbol of resistance. To her new "allies" in the East, she is a pawn to be played and sacrificed as they see fit. They don't hear the whispers that follow her in the streets: whispers of hope and the name of a long-dead saint. When Livia rises up to fight, she will not rise alone. Across the ocean, Felix struggles for control of his family's fate against the crime lord Basilio Grimaldi. Basilio is wealthy, ruthless, and the master of 100 killers. All Felix has are his wits and his courage. It won't be enough. To break free and to save the lives of everyone he loves, he'll have to face the darkness that followed him home from Winter's Reach. And as the owl's horrific vengeance unfolds, her coven teeters on the brink of civil war. All the dominoes are in place now, lined up from the frozen north to the swamps and ruins of a dead empire, and set to tumble at one man's command. When they do, a world will fall with them. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Susannah Jones. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/046884/bk_acx0_046884_sample.mp3. Star Chamber: A Jeannie Loomis Novel, Book 2 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 253min
No man is above the law and no man is below it: nor do we ask any man's permission when we ask him to obey it. (Theodore Roosevelt)FBI agent Jeannie Loomis is back and needs closure after the disastrous ending to the Ark of the Covenant investigation. After months of tracking the activities of Dr. Nancy Bell, Frank Silva, and the rogue military group Banshees, there is no evidence that any criminal activity took place in Ethiopia, or if the Ark of the Covenant actually exists. Feeling her career is headed to a dumpster, she travels to Ethiopia to retrace the steps of the Banshees and their attempted theft of the Ark. Meanwhile, the Star Chamber, a secret tribunal, is in session, judging individuals in absentia for acts against the United States. This judicial body tries individuals above the law due to their political power, wealth, or celebrity status. A guilty verdict results in a death sentence carried out by the equally secret SDL group. One of the first to receive a death sentence is a former secretary of state. As the death toll rises, Agent Loomis and her team stumble into the workings of the secret court while investigating child pornography, sex trafficking, and a mysterious "sex island." Agent Loomis, struggling with the fact that she is pregnant and her living a dangerous lifestyle, attempts to handle her personal and work-related dilemmas, while once again working with agent Delaney of Interpol. As Agent Loomis and her team starts connecting the dots of the assassinations, the scornful SAC Davenport is trying to end her career with the bureau. ungekürzt. Language: English.
