Die roten Wangen und das kurze Haar könnten eher zu einem Sparkassendirektor passen. Doch der Oberbürgermeister von Sao Paulo, der Ingenieur und Vize der Handelskammer, greift seit seinem Amtsantritt im Herbst 2006 in der 20-Millionen-Megapolis durch: Leuchtreklamen, Plakatwände, Banderolen, Schilder, Firmenlogos, selbst Kinoreklamen müssen verschwinden. Kassab will aus dem hässlichen Entlein eine touristisch attraktive Metropole machen. Er weiß natürlich, dass man die viel dringlicheren sozialen Probleme nicht so schnell und billig lösen kann wie den städtischen Auftritt.
