Carmen and Other Stories , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 206min
Merimee's most famous work is the novella Carmen, a story about jealousy and unfaithfulness. It inspired George Bizet's world-famous Opera-Comique. Some 50 movie adaptations have been made from the story, several of which are filmings of the opera. Merimee was one of the greatest names of the romantic movement in France. Passionate, destructive love was his subject in many short stories. The other stories in this collection demonstrate Prosper Merimee's amazing versatility. In "Mateo Falcone" a Corsican's conception of honor forces him to exact a ruthless revenge; "The Storming of the Redoubt" describes an incident in Napoleon's 1812 Russian campaign. In "The Venus of Ille" he produces an unforgettable story of supernatural horror. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Walter Covell. Come West and See: Stories , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 388min
Come West and See is a work both timely and timeless. Set in the Redoubt, an isolated triangle of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming where an armed occupation of a wildlife refuge escalates into a separatist uprising, these stories explore the loneliness, insecurity, and frustration inherent to love and heartbreak. A lakeside wedding drunkenly devolves into a cruel charade; an unemployed carpenter joins a militia after his wife leaves him; and a former soldier raises the daughter of a dead comrade in a bunker beneath an abandoned farm. Come West and See explores divisions both personal and political, offering startling insights into the wounds of the American people and a powerful new vision of the West. ungekürzt. Scions , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 614min
Three years have passed since the devastation of Golyna. Anna, once the maker of immortals, continues to fight the evil she unwillingly created through her rune-carving magic. Secreted away in an isolated mountain monastery, she works as a teacher to young scribes, guiding them toward runes that foster peace rather than endless war. So when the tracker who murdered her brother comes to Anna’s redoubt, begging for his eternal runes to be undone, Anna agrees to grant his wish on one condition - that he aid her in rooting out the remnants of Volna, a genocidal regime bent on destruction. In this brave new world where old foes can become allies, so too can former friends sour into deadly enemies. With the tracker’s help, Anna is propelled into a confrontation with Ramyi, her former apprentice. Grown bitter and disillusioned, Ramyi now wants to lay waste to the world - but not before she completes an apocalyptic ritual that could have dire consequences for all of existence. To stop Ramyi from unleashing chaos, and restore peace to a broken world, Anna must be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Natasha Soudek. Dark Titan Journey: Sanctioned Catastrophe, Book 1 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 477min
The ultimate prepper's adventure. The journey begins here! Nathan Owens was just topping up his tank when the gas pump stopped working. So did the radio. And the lights. Then planes starting falling out of the sky, and plutonium-powered satellites began to explode. A massive solar storm - the Coronal Mass Event that had been predicted for years - finally hit Earth, and the electromagnetic pulse it created instantaneously threw the world back to the Bronze Age. Soon, the radioactive fallout from space would spread death and disease across the globe. Owens and his friends had been preparing for something like this for years, and now it had finally happened. But when it came, it came at the worst possible time. He was 1,000 miles away from his family and his redoubt - and it was his only chance to survive the dark days ahead. If he ever hoped to escape, he would have to draw together a team of survivalists to save those nearby before he could even begin the last, most important journey of his life. And there was one thing he hadn't counted on at all: the EOTWAWKI wasn't just a natural disaster. There was a sinister, almost omnipotent human force, behind it...and it wanted him dead. ungekürzt. The Glass Wall
A Sunday Times Book of the Year 2021This journey to the edge of Europe mixes history, travelogue and oral testimony to spellbinding and revelatory effect.Few countries have suffered more from the convulsions and bloodshed of twentieth-century Europe than those in the eastern Baltic. Small nations such as the Baltic States of Latvia and Estonia found themselves caught between the giants of Germany and Russia, on a route across which armies surged or retreated. Subjected to foreign domination and conquest since the Northern crusades in the twelfth century, these lands faced frequent devastation as Germans, Russians and Swedish colonisers asserted control of the territory, religion, government, culture and inhabitants. The Glass Wall features an extraordinary cast of characters - contemporary and historical, foreign and indigenous - who have lived and fought in the Baltic and made the atmosphere of what was often thought to be western Europe's furthest redoubt. Too often it has seemed to be the destiny of this region to be the front line of other people's wars. By telling the stories of warriors and victims, of philosophers and Baltic Barons, of poets and artists, of rebels and emperors, and others who lived through years of turmoil and violence, Max Egremont reveals a fascinating part of Europe, on a frontier whose limits may still be in doubt.'Fascinating . . . a rich, nuanced account of life on "the Baltic frontier"' - The Times'Excellent' - Daily Mail'Extraordinary' - Literary Review'Exemplary' - Economist- Shop: buecher

Like a Mighty Army: Safehold, Book 7 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 1649min
For centuries, the world of Safehold, last redoubt of the human race, lay under the unchallenged rule of the Church of God Awaiting. The Church permitted nothing new - no new inventions, no new understandings of the world. What no one knew was that the Church was an elaborate fraud - a high-tech system established by a rebel faction of Safehold’s founders, meant to keep humanity hidden from the powerful alien race that had destroyed old Earth. Then awoke Merlyn Athrawes, cybernetic avatar of a warrior a thousand years dead, felled in the war in which Earth was lost. Monk, warrior, counselor to princes and kings, Merlyn has one purpose: to restart the history of the too-long-hidden human race. And now the fight is thoroughly underway. The island empire of Charis has declared its independence from the Church, and with Merlyn’s help has vaulted forward into a new age of steam-powered efficiency. Fending off the wounded Church, Charis has drawn more and more of the countries of Safehold to the cause of independence and self-determination. But at a heavy cost in bloodshed and loss - a cost felt by nobody more keenly that Merlyn Athrawes. The wounded Church is regrouping. Its armies and resources are vast. The fight for humanity’s future isn’t over, and won’t be over soon… ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Oliver Wyman. Aaron Bank and the Early Days of US Army Special Forces , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 148min
Aaron Bank was an OSS Jedburgh in World War II and the subject of William Donovon's quote, "Tell Bank to get Hitler." He'd later become the inaugural commander of the 10th Special Forces Group, earning the moniker Father of the Green Berets. The development and use of unconventional warfare in WWII created a desire to develop permanent units for future wars. Bank parachuted with three others behind enemy lines in France to work with the French Resistance in harassing the Germans retreat from Normandy. He followed that action by recruiting former Wehrmacht soldiers with anti-Nazi sympathies to kidnap Hitler and other high-ranking officers in the Alpine redoubt. Although that mission was called off, he gained more experience with a POW rescue mission in Indochina, even spending time with Ho Chi Minh. These World War II experiences, followed by service in Korea, shaped Bank's view of the need to make an OSS-type force permanent in the United States Army. Under the leadership of Brigadier General Robert McClure, Bank joined Russell Volckmann and Wendell Fertig - veterans of guerrilla warfare in the Philippines - to play an integral role in the creation of the US Army Special Forces.
