Published in 1797, the Critique of Pure Reason is considered to be one of the foremost philosophical works ever written. In the Critique of Pure Reason, Immanuel Kant explores the foundation of human knowledge and its limits, as well as man's ability to engage in metaphysics. The Critique builds on the works of famous philosophers such as John Locke and David Hume, but Kant takes their ideas further. Kant delves into new ideas concerning time and space and how human knowledge relates to cause and effect. Kant's ideas were unique for his time in that he believed that human knowledge did not conform to objects but that objects conformed to human knowledge. It was also Kant's view that humans were born with some prior knowledge that might also be termed intuition and that additional knowledge was gained through life experience. Born in 1724, Immanuel Kant was a German philosopher who is considered by many to be an important contributor to modern philosophical thought. The basics of Kant's beliefs were that the human mind was responsible for creating the structure of one's experiences. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Martin Wilson. The consuming desire of all true Christians is to be like Christ Jesus. Without doubt, such holy ambition is inspired by the Holy Spirit. For it is God's eternal will that all who are called by him are to be conformed to the image of his beloved son. Yet how ironical it is that most Christians seem to undergo great frustration in failing to reach that goal. Does God plan it that way, or do we fail to know and appropriate the provision of God? Thank God, he never calls without providing. Therefore, it behooves us to enter into the secret of Christian living. Truth is always simple in nature. This entire secret of Christian living is given in two simple phrases, which are: "in Christ" and "Christ in us". In this volume, brother Watchman Nee presents the secret of Christian living in three parts; namely, in Christ, Christ in us, and some applications. These are messages given mainly from 1934 to 1938 in various cities of China. They are more direct, more illustrative, and easier to understand. It can be viewed as a companion volume to the classic, The Normal Christian Life. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Josh Miller. The thought of many is that when a person is saved, God forgives him and wipes away all the consequences of his past sins - that he is free. His freedom is so complete that he has no responsibility to rightly terminate with the past and to carry out restitution to those he wronged then. This audiobook clearly examines that way of thinking in the light of the Scriptures and sets out the biblical message for those who have overcome and those who want to overcome. If you do not want to re-assess your life in the light of the word of God, we recommend that you should forget this audiobook completely and not bother to listen to it at all, for if you listen to it, you may find out that you have to carry out revolutionary restitution that will bring you to the crest of the wave of the Holy Spirit's move.If you are an overcomer, or desire to become one, this is your audiobook. May the Lord bless you as you listen to it.We send this audiobook out with prayer that the overcomers, in listening to it, would become more conformed to their soon-coming Lord. ungekürzt. What is Christian Perfection? Why are so many professing Christians afraid of the doctrine? Why is the idea so vehemently resisted? These answers and more are found in Samuel Chadwick's The Call to Christian Perfection; Christian Perfection, says Chadwick, is not infallibility. And neither is it encompassed in the dissolution of our physical existence. Is moral perfection possible in this life? Chadwick's presentation to the affirmative is contained in this audiobook. Based on John Wesley's teachings on entire sanctification, The Call to Christian Perfection examines the Biblical basis of the doctrine. The reality of entire sanctification is only realized through crises in which the soul cries out to be conformed to the image of Christ, and the experience is as much a crises as conversion itself. Without holiness, says the Scriptures, no man shall see the Lord. This being so, it is vitally important that we rightly and Biblically define holiness. To the shame of the professing church, much of it is content in their less than perfect state, actually defending their spots and wrinkles, casting the blame for their worldly imperfection upon their domineering flesh, or even on God Himself. It is a tragedy when "holiness" people are not holy people. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Micah Lee. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/030040/bk_acx0_030040_sample.mp3. # "No Room in the Inn?" will take us from humanity falling hard in the Garden of Eden to believers being crown-wearers in heaven. We will learn what God’s Word says about embracing trials and resisting temptations. God is setting up his eternal kingdom along with a reward system. He uses the fiery trials of life to build our faith and develop character within us. His goal is not to pamper us physically but to perfect us spiritually. Foremost, trials are one way how God’s plan can merge with his purpose for our lives. Satan’s greatest weapon is man’s ignorance of God’s word!Scriptural truth should always be at the threshold of every decision we face in life. He has laid out the promises, principles, provisions, and pathways that will inspire each of us to discover his will.Scripture proclaims we must be born again of the spirit, enter the fellowship of his suffering, be conformed into his image, and live in the power of his resurrection. Taking this path will lead to a successful and rewarding life. Jesus is dead-serious about his word. In fact, he died to keep his word.Furthermore, there was "no room in the inn" for Jesus, yet that didn’t stop him from fulfilling his purpose! Remember, you are the innkeeper of your heart; only you can clean out your stable and remove the "no vacancy" sign. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Steven A. Gannett. Tracing the intersection of religion, race, and power in Texas from Reconstruction through the rise of the Religious Right and the failed presidential bid of Governor Rick Perry, Rough Country illuminates American history since the Civil War in new ways, demonstrating that Texas' story is also America’s. In particular, Robert Wuthnow shows how distinctions between "us" and "them" are perpetuated and why they are so often shaped by religion and politics. Early settlers called Texas a rough country. Surviving there necessitated defining evil, fighting it, and building institutions in the hope of advancing civilization. Religion played a decisive role. Today, more evangelical Protestants live in Texas than in any other state. They have influenced every presidential election for 50 years, mobilized powerful efforts against abortion and same-sex marriage, and been a driving force in the Tea Party movement. And religion has always been complicated by race and ethnicity. Drawing from memoirs, newspapers, oral history, voting records, and surveys, Rough Country tells the stories of ordinary men and women who struggled with the conditions they faced, conformed to the customs they knew, and on occasion emerged as powerful national leaders. We see the lasting imprint of slavery, public executions, Jim Crow segregation, and resentment against the federal government. We also observe courageous efforts to care for the sick, combat lynching, provide for the poor, welcome new immigrants, and uphold liberty of conscience. A monumental and magisterial history, Rough Country is as much about the rest of America as it is about Texas. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Allan Edwards. Our poor country has fallen a prey to the conqueror. The noblest cause ever defended by the sword is lost. The noble dead that sleep in their shallow though honored graves are far more fortunate than their survivors. I thought I had sounded the profoundest depth of human feeling, but this is the bitterest hour of my life. - John Mosby The Civil War is best remembered for the big battles and the legendary generals who fought on both sides, like Robert E. Lee facing off against Ulysses S. Grant in 1864. In kind, the Eastern theater has always drawn more interest and attention than the West. However, while massive armies marched around the country fighting each other, there were other small guerrilla groups that engaged in irregular warfare on the margins, and perhaps the most famous of them was Colonel John Mosby. Mosby, the "Gray Ghost" of the Confederate lore that celebrates the Lost Cause, has an image that has proven nearly impossible to corrupt or change, and time has done little good against it. Unlike the vanished 19th century code of honor that he represented, Mosby has retained the image and all its connotations; evident in the pictures taken of him in his Confederate uniform and historical portrayals of him, whether they were written just after the Civil War or much later. But that image, which he helped fashion, was mostly an invention. Mosby styled himself a "Knight of the South", as other Virginians would do during the war, branding himself as a warrior of a culture who obeyed an unspoken code of honor. He defended women and lived by his word. Even the style of combat he chose conformed to the definition of honor that Southerners held. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Stacy Hinkle. The desire to know God intimately is the great challenge of the Christian faith. Yet, how many are willing to pray the deeply personal prayer that makes it possible - the prayer to be made like Jesus?Michael Phillips shares how he has taken up that challenge. Then, he examines key turning points in the life of Jesus that illuminate what it means for each of us to be conformed to the image of God’s Son and to love like Jesus, think like him, pray like him, and trust the Father like him.In some ways, this is a dangerous book - dangerous to status-quo spirituality. For the journey toward Christlikeness may be painful. Yet, that journey leads to the ultimate purpose God intends for all his sons and daughters. After reading Make Me Like Jesus, Bishop William Frey commented: “Michael Phillips offers a much-needed corrective to…superficial descriptions of the Christian life. He dares us to abandon all candy-coated versions of the gospel.”About the author:Michael Phillips (b. 1946) is one of the most versatile writers of our time. Not only a best-selling novelist, he has penned many devotional and theological titles that illuminate biblical and personal themes with insight, clarity, and wisdom. Phillips is also known for helping rescue George MacDonald from obscurity in the 1980s with his new publications of MacDonald’s works, sparking a worldwide renewal of interest in the man C.S. Lewis called his master.Michael Phillips’s corpus of more than a hundred fiction and nonfiction titles is praised by readers, theologians, laymen, and clergy across the spectrum of Christendom. ungekürzt. With gifted professor, author, and contemplative retreat leader Fr. Donald Goergen, OP, as your guide, explore the spiritual insights of four great spiritual masters with this one-of-a-kind retreat experience. This 24-conference series is designed to capture your spiritual imagination and deepen your life with Christ. Deepen your Christian life with the guidance of four diverse yet complementary 20th-century spiritual masters: Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, Thomas Merton, Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and Blessed Pope John Paul II. Spend six conferences with each spiritual master. Each six-part series is grounded in themes and writings of that particular spiritual master and can be used as a retreat by itself. These four spiritual masters endured the cost of discipleship and became more conformed to Christ through their own distinctive callings. Teilhard was a scientist but also a mystic with a cosmic vision. Merton was perhaps the most prominent Catholic American spiritual writer of the 20th century. A monk and seeker, he was restless, deeply contemplative, socially conscious, and always writing. Mother Teresa's spirituality was oriented toward the poor. Acutely aware of the Gospel's commands, grounded in her commitment to Christ and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, she saw herself as a mystic of darkness. The final mystic in the series is Pope John Paul II, who lived a providential life indeed. A defender of human dignity for all, he has become a symbol of hope, of the potential of the human spirit, and of the transformative power of grace. All four share these last qualities despite their different calls. Let these four spiritual masters accompany you and offer wise guidance in your journey to eternal life. Language: English.
