La Princesse de Clèves (BBC Radio 3: Drama on 3), Hörbuch, Digital, 73min
Madame de Lafayette's classic tale of intrigue and love, La Princesse de Clèves, was dramatised for BBC Radio 3 and originally broadcast in the Drama on 3 slot on 28 February 2010. Set in the 16th century, the play follows the life of a beautiful young lady newly presented to Court. It's the reign of Henri II, and Mary Queen of Scots is safely ensconced in France. It's a time of dangerous liaisons when one step out of line could ruin a woman and her family. Quickly married off, the naïve princess finds herself admired and taunted by those around her. And, whilst they gossip cruelly, she becomes helplessly and dangerously caught up in matters of love. Playfully adapted, this BBC Radio 3 dramatization offsets the princess’ painful conflict between duty and love with characters who delight in the wickedness of their world. La Princesse de Clèves stars Melody Grove as La Princesse, Candida Benson as her mother, and Liam Brennan as Clèves. Also featuring in the cast are Robin Laing, Laurie Brown, Meg Fraser, Irene MacDougall, Ralph Riach and Crawford Logan. Translated and dramatised by Jo Clifford and directed by Kirsty Williams. Language: English. Narrator: Melody Grove, Candida Benson, Liam Brennan. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/rt/bbcw/004496/rt_bbcw_004496_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.- Shop: Audible

John Wyndham: A BBC Radio Drama Collection: Six classic BBC radio adaptations, Hörbuch, Digital, 606min
Bill Nighy, Barbara Shelley and Peter Sallis are among the cast in six classic BBC Radio dramatisations of stories by one of Britain's most popular science fiction authors. 'The Day of the Triffids', first broadcast in 1968, is set in a world in which most people have been left blind after a meteor shower, and lethal carnivorous triffids are roaming the land. 'The Kraken Wakes', dramatised for radio in 1998, is a gripping story of monsters from the deep, alien invasion and ecological disaster. 'The Chrysalids', first broadcast in 1981, explores the dangers of being different, while the 1989 adaptation of short story 'Survival' focuses on the lengths people will go to in order to survive. 'The Midwich Cuckoos', broadcast in 2003, is a disturbing tale of a village sealed off from the world for a day and subsequently taken over by terrifying inhuman children. Dramatised for radio in 1998, 'Chocky' is a chilling tale of a boy who appears to be communicating with an invisible friend. Also included is 'Beware the Stare!', a half-hour radio documentary looking at 'The Midwich Cuckoos' in print and on screen. Note: These are the BBC Transcription versions of The Day of the Triffids, prepared for sale to overseas territories. Paradise Lost , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 143min
Sir Ian McKellen stars as Milton in this dramatised retelling of John Milton's epic poem about the fall of man. Milton's biblical masterpiece, first published in 1667, is one of English literature's most seminal works. Straddling three worlds - heaven, hell and earth - it tells the gripping story of fallen angel Satan's rebellion against God, his temptation of Adam and Eve and their subsequent expulsion from the Garden of Eden. Written to 'justify the ways of God to men', it aimed to show what caused mankind's fall and the consequences for the world, both bad and good. By reaching back to the beginning of time, Milton hoped to discover the events that had led to the political and societal upheaval of his own era - as well as using allegory to ask powerful questions about authority, government, tyranny and disobedience. In this brand-new dramatisation, Milton himself (Sir Ian McKellen) is the blind narrator grieving the loss of his wife, played by Frances Barber. Also starring Simon Russell Beale as Satan, and adapted by award-winning poet and broadcaster Michael Symmons Roberts, this enthralling drama is a vital piece of storytelling with striking parallels to contemporary events.
