Legend of the Road Mangler , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 239min
Mick Jagger has described Phil Kaufman, America's legendary road manager, as the entertainment industry's "executive nanny." In Legend of the Road Mangler, Kaufman tells the stories of his adventures on the road with the Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa, Gram Parsons, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Joe Cocker, Etta James, Emmylou Harris, Rosanne Cash, Marty Stuart, Nanci Griffith, and many others. In addition to road managing, he's been an airman, an inmate, and (briefly) Charles Manson's record producer. To fulfill a promise, he once borrowed a hearse, stole Gram Parsons' body, and cremated it in the desert. You'll hear the whole story as only Kaufman can tell it, along with the voices of some of the artists who know him best. Legend of the Road Mangler is a must-listen for music fans who love to know what goes on behind the scenes, on the bus, after the show, and out in the desert. ungekürzt. Language: English. Stories I Might Regret Telling You
'With disarming candour and courage, Martha tells us of finding her own voice and peace as a working artist and mother. Her story is made more unique because of the remarkably gifted musical family she was born into.' EMMYLOU HARRISThis is Martha Wainwright's heartfelt memoir about growing up in a bohemian musical family and her experiences with love, loss, motherhood, divorce, the music industry and more.Born into music royalty, the daughter of folk legends Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III and sister to the highly-acclaimed singer Rufus Wainwright, Martha grew up in a world filled with such incomparable folk legends as Leonard Cohen, Anna McGarrigle, Richard and Linda Thompson, Pete Townsend and Emmylou Harris. It was within this loud, boisterous, musical milieu that Martha came of age, struggling to find her voice until she exploded onto the music scene with her 2005 debut and critically acclaimed album, Martha Wainwright, which contained the blistering hit, 'Bloody Mother F*cking Asshole', which the Sunday Times called one of the best songs of that year. Her successful debut album and the ones that followed such as Come Home to Mama, I Know You're Married but I've Got Feelings Too and Goodnight City came to define Martha's searing songwriting style and established her as a powerful voice to be reckoned with.In Stories I Might Regret Telling You, Martha digs into the deep recesses of herself with the same emotional honesty that has come to define her music. She describes her tumultuous public-facing journey from awkward, earnest and ultimately rebellious daughter, through her intense competition and ultimate alliance with her brother, Rufus, to the heart-breaking loss of their mother, Kate, and then, finally, discovering her voice as an artist. With candour and grace, Martha writes of becoming a mother herself and making peace with her past struggles with Kate and her younger self. Ultimately, this book offers a thoughtful and deeply personal look into the extraordinary life of one of the most talented singer-songwriters in music today.- Shop: buecher

Don't Forget Me
Izzy Young was a distinctive figure in the folk music and beatnik world. He set up the Folklore Center in New York's Greenwich Village, where Patti Smith, Emmylou Harris and Allen Ginsburg performed, and he produced Bob Dylan's first show in New York in the 1960s. In 1973, Izzy moved to Sweden, where he opened up a similar cultural centre. In Stockholm, the young Philomène and her father resided in the basement of the folklore centre, living a bohemian life, rich in culture and love. Thirty years later Izzy is fighting dementia. In a raw and unembellished manner, Philomène depicts the emotional rollercoaster of losing a beloved parent and a larger-than-life personality to an invisible, invincible foe. Interspersed are small moments of joy as the fog briefly parts to allow for a reconnection. Philomene masterfully intertwines the two timelines with a beautifully sparse language that vibrates with emotion. Don't Forget Me is a deeply personal book, yet the story itself is highly universal.- Shop: buecher

The Grand Tour: The Life and Music of George Jones , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 496min
In the vein of the classic Johnny Cash: The Life, this groundbreaking work explores the wild life and extraordinary musical career of "the definitive country singer of the last half century" (New York Times), who influenced, among others, Bob Dylan, Buck Owens, Emmylou Harris, John Fogerty, George Strait, Alan Jackson, and Garth Brooks. In a masterful biography laden with new revelations, veteran country music journalist/historian Rich Kienzle offers a definitive, full-bodied portrait of legendary country singer George Jones and the music that remains his legacy. Kienzle meticulously sifted through archival material, government records, and recollections by colleagues and admirers, interviewing many involved in Jones' life and career. The result: an evocative portrait of this enormously gifted, tragically tormented icon called "the Keith Richards of country". Kienzle chronicles Jones' impoverished East Texas childhood as the youngest son of a deeply religious mother and an alcoholic, often-abusive father. He examines his three troubled marriages, including his union with superstar Tammy Wynette, and looks unsparingly at Jones' demons. Alcohol and later cocaine nearly killed him until fourth wife Nancy helped him learn to love himself. Kienzle also details Jones' remarkable musical journey from singing in violent Texas honky-tonks to Grand Ole Opry star, hitmaker, and master vocalist whose raw, emotionally powerful delivery remains the gold standard for country singers. The George Jones of this heartfelt biography lived hard before finding contentment until he died at 81 - a story filled with whiskey, women, and drugs but always the saving grace of music. ungekürzt. Dies Land ist mein Land
Am 14. Juli 2012 wäre Woody Guthrie 100 Jahre alt geworden.
