Holiday hilarity and history with the Great Gildersleeve - radio's most lovable windbag! The inimitable Harold Peary, with his melodious baritone voice and trademark warbling laugh, achieved stardom portraying Gildersleeve on the first ever spin-off series in broadcast history! Here are two hilarious holiday shows, one that captures this beloved character at his best, as well as the anxiety of pre-World War II America, in a 1941 episode ("Soldiers for Thanksgiving") and another that captures the soaring prices and spirits of the post-War era, in a 1948 episode ("Christmas Eve at Gildersleeve's"). In the first show, Summerfield citizens are urged to invite a lonely soldier home for Thanksgiving dinner. With an elaborate meal being prepared at his house, Gildy discovers the town's good citizens have indeed heeded this plea, and there's not a soldier left to be had! In the second program, Gildy has found himself guardian of an abandoned baby and plans a quiet family celebration that will make the infant's first Christmas "the best ever" - but soon half the town has invited themselves over. Then the story turns on a dime from comedy to drama, ending with the Great Gildersleeve delivering one of the most touching Christmas speeches since Tiny Tim said, "God bless us every one!" Here is Golden Age radio at its finest, plus informative commentary about the program and Harold Peary's life and career. Distinguished pediatrician Dr. Robert Bucknam, MD, and coauthor Gary Ezzo are two of the world's leading experts on infant management concepts. In this revised fifth edition, they have updated their groundbreaking approach, which has found favor with over six million parents in all 50 states and has been translated into 16 languages around the world. For over 20 years, On Becoming Babywise has been the de facto newborn parenting manual for naturally synchronizing your baby's feeding time, wake time, and nighttime sleep cycles, so the whole family can sleep through the night. In his 26th year as a licensed pediatrician, Dr. Robert Bucknam, MD, along with coauthor Gary Ezzo, demonstrates how order and stability are mutual allies of every newborn's metabolism and how parents can take advantage of these biological propensities. In particular, they note how an infant's body responds to the influences of parental routine or the lack thereof. Early chapters start with explorations of everyday aspects of infant management, such as the three basic elements of daytime activities for newborns: feeding time, wake time, and naptime. Practical discussions then focus on broad and niche topics including feeding philosophies, baby sleep problems, baby scheduling challenges, nap routines, sleep training multiples, baby sleeping props, colic and reflux and many other dimensions that impact breast feeding schedules, bottle feeding tips, and baby sleep training. Five resource appendices provide additional reference material: Taking Care of Baby and Mom A Timeline of What to Expect and When Baby Sleep Training Problems and Solutions Monitoring Your Baby's Growth Healthy Baby Growth Charts On Becoming Babywise is more than an infant-management concept. The Foundling tells the incredible and inspiring true story of Paul Fronczak, a man who recently discovered via a DNA test that he was not who he thought he was - and set out to solve two 50-year-old mysteries at once. Along the way he upturned the genealogy industry, unearthed his family's deepest secrets, and broke open the second longest cold case in US history, all in a desperate bid to find out who he really is. In 1964 a woman pretending to be a nurse kidnapped an infant boy named Paul Fronczak from a Chicago hospital. Two years later police found a boy abandoned outside a variety store in New Jersey. The FBI tracked down Dora Fronczak, the kidnapped infant's mother, and she identified the abandoned boy as her son. The family spent the next 50 years believing they were whole again - but Paul was always unsure about his true identity. Then, four years ago - spurred on by the birth of his first child, Emma Faith - Paul took a DNA test. The test revealed definitively that he was not Paul Fronczak. From that moment on, Paul has been on a tireless mission to find the man whose life he's been living - and to discover who abandoned him and why. This is the story of Paul's heart-wrenching and tortuous journey to solve both mysteries and finally learn the truth about his identity. The Foundling is a touching and inspiring story about a child lost and faith found, about the permanence of families and the bloodlines that define you, and about the emotional toll of both losing your identity and rediscovering who you truly are. ungekürzt. The original idea came to co-author Mary Harrison when she observed her youngest son, Leon, trying to pick flowers from a floral pattern on her bed cover. The infant's actions seemed so quirky and amusing that Mary was prompted to write a letter to Woman's Own magazine which was subsequently published. Mary asked if other mothers had experiences similar "odd" moments with their little ones. The word "odd" was the keyword that triggered an amazing reaction, and Mary, whose address had been published with her letter, was overwhelmed with letters from parents reporting accounts of reincarnation. From this, the idea for the book The Children that Time Forgot was born. Mary and Peter Harrison spent over a year thoroughly researching leads. The anecdotes and stories developed organically as they gathered new evidence and established facts. Amongst the 30 fascinating accounts they unearthed, one story features a young girl from the north of England, so young she had not travelled outside of England before and was too young to read, yet she recounted, with chilling accuracy, visiting her grandmother in Dundee on the fateful night in 1879 her train was swept away when the Tay Bridge collapsed. Cynics would of course be quick to question the validity of such a story, but when the girl's family recollections were checked out, eyewitness accounts of the family she described, events leading to it, and records matched up. The book's primary aim is to present children's stories in a neutral, non-judgmental way and let the listener decide. All the stories are spontaneous and all contributors offered their stories voluntarily. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sandra Garston. The number one New York Times best-selling author Jonathan Kellerman's "psychology skills and dark imagination are a potent literary mix" (Los Angeles Times), and this intensely thrilling blend has never been so powerful as in the acclaimed author's new novel of murder and madness among the beautiful dreamers, seductive predators, and doomed innocents adrift in the glare of Southern California's eternal sunshine. A series of horrifying events occur in quick succession in the same upscale L.A. neighborhood. A backyard renovation unearths an infant's body, buried 60 years ago. And soon thereafter in a nearby park, another disturbingly bizarre discovery is made not far from the body of a young woman shot in the head. Helping LAPD homicide detective Milo Sturgis to link these eerie incidents is brilliant psychologist Alex Delaware. But even the good doctor's vast experience with matters both clinical and criminal might not be enough to cut down to the bone of this chilling case - and draw out the disturbing truth. Backtracking six decades into the past stirs up tales of a beautiful nurse with a mystery lover, a handsome, wealthy doctor who seems too good to be true, and a hospital with a notorious reputation - all of them long gone, along with any records of a newborn, and destined for anonymity. But the specter of fame rears its head when the case unexpectedly twists in the direction of the highest echelons of celebrity privilege. Entering this sheltered world, Alex little imagines the macabre layer just below the surface - a decadent quagmire of unholy rituals and grisly sacrifice. Before their work is done, Alex and Milo, "the most original whodunit duo since Watson and Holmes" (Forbes), must confront a fanatically deranged mind of such monstrous cunning that even the most depraved madman would shudder. ungekürzt.
