In popular culture, the term Neanderthal is used as a colloquial insult for a degenerate or someone perceived as stupid. This seems to have been the case even from the first recognition of the Neanderthals as a species. The first Neanderthal fossil discovery was that of a child’s skull in Belgium in 1829, but it was badly damaged. Another would be discovered in 1856 in a limestone mine of the Neanderthal region of what is present-day Germany, and a skull with differing distinct traits (indicating a different species than the Neanderthals) would be discovered just over a decade later in southwestern France. The latter specimen would come to be recognized as an example of the species Homo Sapiens, and these anatomically modern humans arrived in Europe between 45,000 and 43,000 years ago, around the time the Neanderthals are believed to have started going extinct. The Neanderthals are a member of the genus Homo just like Homo sapiens and share roughly 99.7 percent of their DNA with modern humans (Reynolds and Gallagher 2012). Both species even lived briefly during the same time in Eurasia. However, the Neanderthals evolved separately in Europe, away from modern humans, who evolved in Africa. Physically, the Neanderthal skeleton was much more robust, suggesting that there was more room for muscle attachment. However, while Neanderthals were stronger than modern humans, the average height of the Neanderthal male was shorter, standing at only about 5’5 tall. Other physical characteristics that set the Neanderthals apart from modern humans were certain skull traits. The skull in general was low and elongated, featuring a sloping forehead with an occipital bun (a bone projection at the back of the skull), whereas modern humans have a more vertical forehead with no occipital bun. Both species even lived briefly during the same time in Eurasia. However, the Neanderthals evolved separately in Europe, away from modern humans, who evolved in Africa. The Neanderthals lived in Europe and Asia for nearly 200,000 years and thrived in these regions, but they went extinct between 40,000 and 30,000 years ago, around the same time modern humans began arriving in Europe. This has prompted much speculation as to the nature of the interactions between Neanderthals and Homo sapiens, especially since some researchers believe they interacted with each other for more than 5,000 years before the Neanderthals began going extinct at different times across Europe. One hypothesis is that Homo sapiens displaced the Neanderthals and were better suited for the environment, and it is obviously possible if not likely that these two groups had become competitors for food and other resources, with Homo sapiens being more successful in ungekürzt. The Neanderthals Are Back: The Beginning is the first of a series of stories about the life of Neanderthals growing up in modern society after two scientists bring them back with the help of some surrogate mothers. This audiobook focuses on the story of the first six Neanderthal babies as they grow up. At first, they are raised in the lab in secret and taught by a nursery school teacher. When the children are five and six, the scientists place them with the owners of a group home for children with disabilities. The stories follow the Neanderthal children as they grow up, go to school, have relationships with other children, go through their teenage years, and start working in unskilled jobs in their early 20s. Along the way they face many challenges, including bullying, romances with humans, and a strike for better working conditions. Some even participate in experiments where they get a genius pill that makes them suddenly smart for a while. Meanwhile, scientists in other areas of the country bring back other Neanderthal kids. The Beginning features the six children’s first years of being born, growing up in the lab, and being introduced to their group home. We also get to know the kids who have very different personalities - from being a leader to being very friendly and social or being quiet and shy. Then, when one boy goes exploring, this leads to a series of events, resulting in the media discovering the Neanderthals, leading to the question: "What do we do now?"The audiobook is the beginning of a unique compelling series that raises many issues that might occur should the Neanderthals really be brought back, which could happen. ungekürzt. The New Neanderthals: The Rise of the Force is the first of a series of stories that build on the story in The Neanderthals Are Back. The book begins when the owner of a company that uses robots for production and shipping learns about the first group of neanderthals. The owner enlists the help of two scientists to bring back more neanderthals through cloning to replace the robots in order to reduce costs.Soon, he has a workforce of neanderthals.Ten years later, after this operation has been running successfully in secret, some detectives find out about the neanderthals and they visit the owner with unique proposal. They hope to recruit a team of neanderthals to help them track down and capture an escaped prisoner who has fled to the desert and mountains.Since prison officials and others in law enforcement have given up on finding the prisoner, the detectives think maybe the neanderthals can, because they are supposed to be strong, aggressive, have really good vision, and can work well together, such as when out on a hunt. The new team trains for a few weeks, and once they are ready, the detectives take them to the desert to look for the escaped prisoner. But can the neanderthals find him, and if they do, can they avoid being shot or killed by a well-armed prisoner? The rise of the force tells this story.Future stories in the series describe how the new neanderthal force grows and undertakes other missions using low-tech means to help law enforcement capture criminals.Gini Graham Scott, Ph.D., J.D., is a nationally known writer, consultant, speaker, and seminar leader, specializing in business and work relationships, professional and personal development, social trends, and popular culture.
