Many people spend their energy, time, and hard-earned money buying supplements, specialty products, and shakes. He can't exactly buy flowers for a florist, so he has to get creative with his romantic gestures. Very creative.Luca doesn't know that Tina is holding on to something from the past. It might be a problem for the couple. She won't let him into her tiny life if she has no space. There are plenty of LOLs and bittersweet moments to savour on Tina and Luca's bumpy journey toward love.Note: This is an expanded and updated full-length novel based on a story originally published in 2014 as Blue Roses under the pen name Mimi Strong.Chapter 1:"Tina Gardenia was on the edge of crying. A bundle of blue roses sat before her on the prep counter. They were so tacky, so unnatural. Natural roses came in so many wonderful colors, but people preferred the white ones tinted with blue dye. People didn’t always have the best taste. Florists were supposed to help, but the customer was always right. Even if they wanted dyed blue roses. She picked up one rose, cupping the blossom in her palm as she stripped the thorns off with a knife. Her eyes felt hot and itchy. They hadn’t recovered from the previous night’s sad movie, which should have come with an Ugly Cry warning. It served her right for picking one with a dog on the poster. She should have known the dog would die. Now her tear ducts were probably permanently damaged. She blinked hard, but it didn’t help. The door chime let out a chirp. Someone walked into Gardenia Flowers. By the sound of his steps, it was a man, and not a small one.Tina’s gaze went first to the boots. They were motorcycle boots. And they were big.Next, her gaze climbed up his jeans. And what a climb it was, over long legs clad in denim, and noticeably m ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Tiffany Williams. Most scientists believe the evolution of humans has a history as long as life itself. Anatomically modern humans and all other life that has existed on the planet first came about from the single-celled microorganisms that emerged approximately 4 billion years ago. Through the processes of mutation and natural selection, all forms of life developed, and this continuous lineage of life makes it difficult to say precisely when one species completely separates from another. In other words, scientists still debate when a human became a human rather than the ancestor species that came before.Around 1.8 million years ago, a third species of Homo appeared in the fossil record. H. erectus would have shared the landscape for a time with H. habilis and H. rudolfensis, but the fossils of H. erectus are not limited to eastern and southern Africa. Instead, they are found across Africa and parts of mainland and insular Asia. This is the first species of Homo to be found outside Africa (Rightmire 1993).Features of H. erectus suggest an evolution toward modern humans, and the features that separate H. erectus from the other Homo species are found in the skull. The size of the brain was approximately 900 cc, making it larger than the brain size of H. habilis. H. erectus would not have the largest brain capacity of the Homo genus during its existence, with the emergence of H. heidelbergensis approximately 800,000 years ago. The larger brain size may not matter much when the size of the brain is considered with the size of the body, which also increased. While the facial features of H. erectus would have made them noticeably different if they were alive today, their postcranial morphology may have been similar to modern humans. A key difference is the density or thickness of the bones; in H. erectus the limb bones are more robust, but otherwise they appear very similar to modern humans. The length of the hindlimbs in relation to the arms is similar to modern hu ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Colin Fluxman. In The Nutcracker Mood It's over a half century since the immortal Glenn Miller disappeared just before Christmas on December 15, 1944. His Orchestra, in the too-short run under his personal leadership, had officially recorded only one Christmas song ("Jingle Bells", October 20, 1941). Dedicated fans around the world are certain that, had he lived through World War II, he would have recorded a complete album of the best-loved music of the holiday season. This recording is the third produced by this outstanding group of professional musicians, all contributing to the continuation of the Glenn Miller tradition and the joy of the music heard during the Christmas season year after year, all around the world. Once again...the "sound" and the "swing" of the Glenn Miller sound of the Forties...the songs and holiday joys of Christmas...another celebration by dedicated alumni of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. The first recording, "In The Christmas Mood", was released in 1991. It was so successful that a second recording, "In The Christmas Mood II,' was produced and later released in 1993. By the close of the Christmas season of 1996, "In The Christmas Mood," received a Platinum Record Award (sales exceeded 1,000,000 units) and "In The Christmas Mood II," received a Gold Record Award (sales exceeded 500,000 units). For the first recording, a list of desirable players was compiled. There were a few requisites -- musicians had to be working currently, only alumni of the Glenn Miller Orchestra would be recruited, each individual had to have recognized and outstanding talent, each veteran had to be able to take a leave-of-absence from his current "gig", and, of course, be available to come to New York City to record. The reaction from each and every alumnus called was immediate, "Of course! Count me in. When? Where?" So they came from Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Michigan, Florida, Rochester, Eastern Pennsylvania, and Sydney, Australia to join the players already in New York City. Almost all of the musicians performing on all three of these recordings, are the same. The only differences are the pianist for the first recording, and trombonist, Larry O'Brien, the then leader of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, was unable to make the second recording due to being on tour. Larry is noticeably back on this recording as evidenced by his beautiful trombone solo on Toyland. The average age of this band is about 50. The length of time each player performed with the Glenn Miller Orchestra ranges from as little as 6 months to well over 10 years. The cumulative experience of this band recreating the authentic Miller "sound" is well over 100 years! What is their motivation? Dedication? Commitment? Familiarity? Feeling? Lasting enthusiasm? Wish fulfillment? A reunion of great music with great musicians who are all friends? A celebration of the past and present? The answer is definitely "all of the above!". The quality of the music and musicianship on these recordings speaks for itself! Look at the repertoire here -- Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite plus many more Christmas standards, some of which were around when Glenn was still alive and other more recent compositions he might have recorded had he not been lost. IN THE NUTCRACKER MOOD -- Over 40 minutes of musical memories, of good cheer, of the most enduring "sound' of the Swing Era Big Bands arranged and performed by dedicated alumni of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. This is music that will live forever. Orchestral and vocal magnificence! Gratification! Enjoy! Mike Bella started his career at a very early age. He made his first appearance as an exuberant eight year old with two sticks of wood, playing drums with his father's band. With the music of his father's band ringing in his ears, the seeds of Mike's ambition took root. He is fortunate to have come from a musical family where music is part of their way of life. By the age of thirteen his musical ambitions had him playing many instruments in his own three-piece band. Mike has always performed songs by the Country Legends like Merle Haggard, Charlie Pride. He also has been a lifelong fan of a singer who has influenced him greatly, the one of a kind country legend, Buck Owens. As a young musician he would have no idea that years later his dream would take him to the studios of Nashville and to personal appearances throughout America and Europe. Mike is currently working on promoting his new album 'Forever And Ever'. The reaction to his latest album and European success has Mike yearning for more of the same. This dream remained constant throughout the eighties and nineties as he continued performing with his own group through out the U.S. At the core of Mike Bella's vision is his true love and affection for the traditional Country music that inspired him throughout his life. In 1994, with this dream burning strong, he made the big move to Nashville where he quickly began playing night clubs and appeared on a multi-state radio show. One of the greatest compliments Mike ever received was when a reviewer stated that he was a singer very much in the proud tradition of Buck Owens. This comparison in roots country music made Mike feel he was on the right track. His style is a unique blend of the traditional country music he loves and he performs it with his own brand of enthusiasm that keeps the music of his heritage alive. On stage, Mike's personal performance favorites are the shuffle songs that he has found to be so popular in his concerts. Like so many young vocalists who love what they are doing, Mike wants to continue making country music his full time profession. His first album was released in 1997 and his popularity expanded across the Atlantic to Europe. He toured in Denmark, Norway and Sweden and has since kept in close contact with his fans and the many music industry promoters who have always encouraged him to come back for return engagements. The enjoyment Mike feels and expresses in his music has been noted by reviewers and audiences alike, as it shows in his in-person engagements and is heard in his heartfelt vocalizing on record. Mike is enthused about the acceptance of his independent recordings that have found a growing audience in the U.S. and throughout Europe where he continues to receive considerable air play. Mike recently appeared on a television program in Sweden called Country Music Video and he was very impressed how much Europeans love America's Country music and how knowledgeable they are about it's stars. When traveling between engagements, Mike loves to hear the classic country songs of the fifties and sixties on his radio. When he can't hear his favorites he makes sure he has enough CD's to keep the music alive in his heart as he travels. He gives credit to the many country artists who have inspired him. His personality and style is noticeably characterized by his love of the music of the legendary music greats who created the genre America loves. He always keeps listening to the masters of country music. When asked what he enjoyed so much about singing on stage, Mike replied, 'Seeing someone in the audience singing along to my songs is one of the greatest thrills I have had in performing. To know my music is reaching others who are responding with such enjoyment is something I never get tired of.' Mike's goals include his desire to keep the traditional country music of America alive. He attributes the down-to-earth- personality traits of the traditional artists with having been brought up with a strong family background. He calls it being 'Country raised'. In the recording studio Mike endeavors to make each song his own by putting everything into the performance to make it right for himself and the audience. His fans have a strong belief that he is on the verge of a 'Big Break' that could move him to the next level. This belief is well founded as Mike has a respect for the traditional music that keeps his spirit lifted and his audience calling for more.

Well, here we go again. And before I say anything else, I'd like to first say thanks to those of you who supported my debut CD 'Blind Jake's Jump'. And to those of you who are here for the first time, I'd also like to say thanks to you as well. I hope this is not your last visit. With regard to 'In This Place', know that the mood and 'sense' of this work differs noticeably from that of 'Jake'. Musically, it's scope may be a little leaner than before, but it's effect in turn, I think, is more visceral and substantive instead. Also, for very specific reasons, I felt compelled to incorporate something other than 'just' music in this work. So I wrote you sort of a note. Ordinarily, I would normally be adverse to doing such a thing, but I thought this work was different and as such required something 'above and beyond' the music. Admittedly, this was a risky proposition, considering that (usually) external contrivances such as explanations or other such pointed exhortations generally serve to only detract from the author's intended effect for the work. But (again), I thought about you. And because I did, I left a thought or two in the liner notes of this CD 'just for you'. So, if you really want to know what it says, you'll have to get the CD. When you do, I hope you'll find that your investment will (in the end ) have been worth it. Well, I guess that's it for now, until next time, as always, thank you for listening, enjoy the dance, and I'll see you somewhere in the music...AHR.

If you considered their debut "Worthless Lesson" album a slap upside the head, you better duck. Route .44's sophomore release is a haymaker. The album, called "This is My America," can be likened to Russell Crowe's first big line in "Gladiator"... "Unleash Hell" or Gerard Butler's, as Leonidas in "300"... "Prepare for Glory."Yeah, "...My America" has just that kind of ferocity. The current lineup of Route .44 came together just under five years ago, with stand up bassist and production guru Eric D. joining in '05. In 2007, they earned a Motif Music Award for Breakthru Band of the Year. In 2008, they were dubbed Alt-Rock Band of the Year by local music junkies. Here at Motif, Roots music columnist John Fuzek first noticed Route .44 as an upstart roots outfit throwing together crazy elements of various genres into a richly-saturated oblique tour-de-force. The debut work, "Worthless Lessons," leaned mainly on the bands roots foundation, coming across as much gospel as roots-rock at times. Despite the fact that band leader and lyricist Ian Lacombe peppered the album with hard-edged lyrics in songs such as "Addiction" and "Worthless Lessons." The sound, vocals, and arrangements are an acquired taste, to some degree. You're not likely to catch Route .44 on mainstream Clear Channel stations like WHJY, or corporate alt-rock such as WBRU. There's an oblique power and beauty, admittedly not for everyone. "This is My America" demonstrates a clear maturation into more forceful songwriting and an uncompromising social critique noticeably absent in this time of war and crisis. "Music has always been a mirror of the times. This album is a continuance of that tradition," songwriter Ian Lacombe says. "I have always been a fan of music with a conscience from Anarcho-punk bands like Crass and Conflict to Woody Guthrie and Country Joe and the Fish. "I think we are living in a time when we need more social commentary in music. I don't think people really want to be spoonfed the latest Britney Spears song about how difficult her comeback has been... I mean,do we really give a f&%$k about that." One of the more pertinent and in- your face tracks, 'My America,' indicts American apathy, political deceit and the dark cruelty harbored by human souls. Referencing the album's title, 'My America' could double for Johnny Depp's big "Sweeney Todd" number. A blend of breathless harlequin and burning disdain, Lacombe continues his raw wordsmith excellence. 'My America' would be like Jim Morrison joining Disturbed and bringing his poetic psychedelia on a Warped Tour. Vocalists Jess Powers and Teri Pimley conflate an angelic foil to Lacombe's demons. But with the new Route .44, halos tarnish fast in an anti-harmony of vice: Take my money, give me pain. Put me out on that train. Again, the way you use me. I thought I was forgiven, but I cannot stop my sinning... I dream of a catastrophe, already in the making. In which we are like insects, tryin' to build a hive. Like drones we all operate without the ability to think for ourselves 'till the day we die. And our queens will just make more of us, as we succumb to thoughts of lust... perpetuate our existence to further make us slide. This is my, this is my America. This is myAmerica. "As far as the darker imagery in the lyrics goes, I think that's simply a sign of the times," Lacombe says. "The world is getting darker, wars are raging, our economy is shrinking, and resources are disappearing. "In a nutshell, the world shapes the music I present, and personally, happiness isn't really inspiring to me. I don't write love songs because I'm not inspired by love." Throughout the 10-track "My America" disc, Route .44 threads themes of sin, vice, betrayal and fury. The new material has more edge than the 8-member band's "Worthless Lesson" release. "My America" comes across dirty, sexy, and lust filled, merging more heavy rock, jazz and blues elements than before. Sax men Matt Swanton and Paul Choquette shine, as does Pimley's lonesome viola work, and Eric D. (upright bass), Jud Lisiecka (percussion), and Rob Champagne (drums) lay the groundwork for vocals to soar, mingle and fall to Earth. On perhaps the most musically brazen track, 'Trinity,' blaring horns, driving bass and percussion are challenged by the lofty vocals of Powers and Pimley, and contrasted by Lacombe guttural mixing of the parables about Hindu God Vishnu and the first testing of a nuclear weapon. The test, like the song, is called Trinity. Site director for the Trinity test, J. Robert Oppenheimer, later said that a line from the Hindu scripture the "Bhagavad-Gita" came to mind: "I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." Lacombe uses the line repeatedly. "When I was about 19, I really got into researching the development of the Atomic Bomb," Lacombe says. "I was always enthralled with Oppenheimer. He was an incredibly compassionate man, and a brilliant scientist, whom I think was devastated by his own creation." At the time, nuclear test director Kenneth Bainbridge reportedly said to Oppenheimer, "Now we are all sons of bitches." Pithy Americans! But 'Stimulus Response' lays claim to the most lyrically fierce song on "My America." Down, down, down. This place burns to the ground. Desperately, we pursue our happiness like rats in the street. When our backs are broken and our knuckles raw, we work from our knees. Hope is what we feed ourselves at night. Have some, it'll make everything alright. In poverty we're spoonfed the scraps of a Bourgeois roast. A loaf of bread to feed five thousand, while the CEO's toast. We can rise up. We can greet them with a storm. Or lay down and accept what is the norm. 'Stimulus' operates as an unabashed political revolutionary call, devoid of any real hope that a response will follow. Lacombe's lyrical tact points to the obvious... we're all screwed. So stand up, or take it like a beat dog and just roll over. There's plenty more solid music on"America," including steamy 'Lonely Together,' with a sultry jazz-based groove courtesy of Eric D. "This is My America" makes the blood rush fast and hot, makes you smile at the thought of sin and lust. Jim Vickers - Motif Magazine - April 09.
