SKILLYWIDDEN Part of our legacy from Cantiga fiddler Malcolm Smith (1951-1996), this tune began life as a playful response to too many choruses of 'It's a Long, Long Way from Clare to Here', and morphed into our favorite jam tune. 5. VALLE DE LO ALTO We first heard this melody performed by the Andean band Pachacamac and were delighted to discover that it was written by Conrado 'Charry' Garcia, our newest member. Charry wrote this tune in Chile in the 1980's. Valle de lo Alto means 'High Valley'. 6. WHITE PETTICOAT A LA TURK Mark became fixated on odd time signatures after borrowing Bob's book of Bulgarian tunes, and an innocent Irish jig in 6/8 slipped into 7! 7. BOUREES These two bourées were published by German composer Michael Praetorius in his collection of French court and country dance music 'Terpsichore' (1612). 8. SPAGNOLETTA A well-known ancient air also published in 'Terpsichore'. We dedicate this dance to the Court Dancers of Scarborough Faire. 9. BRANLE DE BOURGOGNE This 16th century French dance tune by Adrian Le Roy alternates four and six-measure phrases. Mark discovered it on a recording of Early Music from the '70s. 10. ERES AGUEDA GLORIOSA We learned this Spanish Renaissance melody for Jeff Baldwin of the Texas Renaissance Festival, who chose it for his production 'Masque of the Conquistadors'. This song is a serenade of love to the beautiful Agueda, who appears to her suitor as radiant as an angel in the midst of her nine sisters. 11. FISCHIETTANDO A tarantella, popular with whistling Sicilianos. The fischietto is the Italian version of the penny-whistle. Fischiettando means 'whistling'. 12. ARGEERS This perky little tune is from John Playford's 'The English Dancing Master', in print from 1651 to 1728. ...............     ABOUT THE ALBUM ' Doomsday Kid. Diaries ' is a debut album by the band P.I.Light. It consists of 11 songs with electronica intro and outro (noise sounds made by The Forest). The album is very eclectic: alternative, metal, experimental, electronic. Heavy sound. Apocalyptic fiction and outer space music. Tale of an alien kid from dying planet. All vocals performed by the female singer. MUSIC QUOTES If 'Doomsday Kid. Diaries' could be described in a single word, that word would be 'claustrophobic'. From the very beginning to it's amazing conclusion, 'Doomsday Kid. Diaries" is an album that exudes hopelessness and despair. It takes several listens for it to sink in, but once it does you realize it is the same creatively throbbing pulsing rhythms and haunting vocals that you would expect from bands like Portishead and Korn. Behind this marvelous production stands our new discovery from Georgia - the band P.I.Light. Their music is just simply expansive and progressive. The overall sound is a sort of a downbeat industrial/electronic thing with a healthy mix of heavy guitars and blasting vocals. The songs flow perfectly, with the instrumentation sparse when it needs to be and booming where required. It's another record that nails the balance of a cohesive tone while varying the sound enough to keep the songs unique and interesting. The overall vibe can be described, as follows - simply close your eyes and picture the band playing inside of a tiny cell, desperately longing to be free. There are glimpses of hope - beams of light shining through a tiny cell window - but the overall mood that is conveyed with 'Doomsday Kid. Diaries' is incredibly bleak. Whether this album is even definable as rock, metal or alternative is debatable. As it stands though, 'Doomsday Kid. Diaries' is a difficult album to define, and P.I.Light should be credited with that. It is an album whose technical merits are outdone only by the emotional shadow that it casts on it's listener. It is unlike anything we've ever had the pleasure of hearing, and it is a journey that absolutely needs to be experienced! - AMAdea Records, BULGARIA.
