The epic new thriller continues. Book two in the mind-blowing new supernatural thriller from best-selling author Derek Landy, creator of international sensation Skulduggery Pleasant. Reeling from their bloody encounter in New York City at the end of Demon Road, Amber and Milo flee north. On their trail are the Hounds of Hell - five demonic bikers who will stop at nothing to drag their quarries back to their unholy master. Amber and Milo's only hope lies within Desolation Hill - a small town with a big secret; a town with a darkness to it, where evil seeps through the very floorboards. Until, on one night every year, it spills over onto the streets, and all hell breaks loose. And that night is coming.... ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Kathryn Griffiths. Finnley McDougall’s boring schoolboy life in Seattle gets turned upside down when Great Uncle Hugh gives him a most unusual gift - a scruffy, rude, bad-tempered Scottish rock creature called Wullie who brings danger and disaster with him wherever he goes. From French snobs in fancy hotels, rusting barges on the Seattle waterfront, abandoned coalmines and flooded quarries in the Scottish hillsides filled with bullies, gangsters, slobbering dogs, and weird food Finn is drawn into an evil plot that threatens to destroy everything he loves…including Edinburgh Castle. The only person who thinks that Finn is smart enough or brave enough to survive all this is his best friend and next door neighbor, Hadley Kobayashi, a girl who is wiser and tougher than Finn. ungekürzt. With its eccentric shape, tacked on like a long medieval shoe to Southern England, Cornwall is not the easiest shape of an area to research. I began by driving north to Kilkhampton and Morwenstow, then south via Bude to Bodmin and Padstow. From there I moved east to Launceston, visiting Antony and St Germans near the Tamar Valley, and down to Looe and St Austell. The centre of Cornwall disclosed the working face of mining towns such as Bugle and Camborne, their clusters of Victorian terraced cottages built around great quarries and industrial sites. My route around the southern peninsula brought me past some fabulous aspects of the coastline; the uncompromised rocky landscape of Sennen and St Just, or the delightful flower filled vale of Lamorna and the dramatic headland of The Lizard. Cornwall is like another country, carrying its own culture and history, though its energy keeps it moving forward in a present reality. It can provide a blissful escape and equally opens itself to enterprise and new connections. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Damien Connolly. Finally available after three decades, a lost classic of the Harlem Renaissance that Langston Hughes acclaimed for its "hard poetic beauty". Eric Walrond (1898-1966), in his only book, injected a profound Caribbean sensibility into black literature. His work was closest to that of Jean Toomer and Zora Neale Hurston with its striking use of dialect and its insights into the daily lives of the people around him. Growing up in British Guiana, Barbados, and Panama, Walrond first published Tropic Death to great acclaim in 1926. This book of stories viscerally charts the days of men working stone quarries or building the Panama Canal, of women tending gardens and rearing needy children. Early on addressing issues of skin color and class, Walrond imbued his stories with a remarkable compassion for lives controlled by the whims of nature. Despite his early celebrity, he died in London in 1966 with minimal recognition given to his passing. Arnold Rampersad's elegant introduction reclaims this classic work and positions Walrond alongside the prominent writers of his age. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Prentice Onayemi. The farmer develops the most superficial part of the earth's crust, the soil, that is to say the portion of our globe which interests geology. However, the farmer should not lose interest in geology, because this science helps him in more than one circumstance. The arable land serves as a support for the plant; it is also in its bosom that the roots seek the mineral elements which serve to build the plant cell. Each harvest therefore removes a certain amount of mineral elements from the soil, which the farmer must return to it in various ways, either in the form of manure or in the form of mineral fertilizers or amendments. These mineral elements can be found either in the subsoil at depth (marl, carbonate of lime), or in nearby or distant quarries (gypsum stone, carbonate of lime, lime phosphate, sodium nitrate, potash and magnesia salts). The basis of any rational cultivation is nowadays the preliminary study of the physico-chemical and biological properties of the soil. This study of the soil is one of the most important approaches applied to agronomy.
