The Missing Lands
Eyewitness accounts from indigenous people around the world describe how a more advanced group of people lived alongside them 12,000 years ago. Described as 'human-like but not quite human', these gods were master navigators and astronomers who harnessed the laws of nature, built megalithic monuments and raised a comparatively high culture. In this daring, breathtaking, and original account of a parallel civilization, best-selling author Freddy Silva reveals new evidence behind these gods, from the Shining Ones, the People of the Serpent, and Followers of Horus to the Itz, Urukehu, the Apkallu sages and the Lords of Anu. He puts together a complex picture of how this global network fell prey to an unimaginable natural disaster whose survivors rebuilt their former world at strategic locations such as the Nile Valley and taught humans the roots of civilized society, proving why we 'magically' discovered civilization around 8500 BC. But more importantly, he also reveals where these gods once lived, and their ultimate place of origin. We learn about a landscape temple in New Zealand called Birthplace of the Gods, and how its creators established temple cities around the Pacific, in the Andes, the Yucatan, Egypt and the Middle East. We visit the city of the Shining People on Lake Titicaca, establish dates for antediluvian temples such as Tiwanaku and the Osirion, and discover how the Giza Pyramids and Gobekli Tepe are linked. Silva also details the ecological disaster that once engulfed the world, with evidence that it is destined to recur between 2030-2042, the outcome of which will be determined by the very people the flood gods once sought to elevate to their level. Elusive Victories: The American Presidency at War , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 852min
On April 4, 1864, Abraham Lincoln made a shocking admission about his presidency during the Civil War. "I claim not to have controlled events," he wrote in a letter, "but confess plainly that events have controlled me." Lincoln's words carry an invaluable lesson for wartime presidents, writes Andrew J. Polsky in this seminal book. As Polsky shows, when commanders-in-chief do try to control wartime events, more often than not they fail utterly. In Elusive Victories, Polsky provides a fascinating study of six wartime presidents, drawing larger lessons about the limits of the power of the White House during armed conflict. He examines, in turn, Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama, showing how each gravely overestimated his power as commander-in-chief. In each case, these presidents' resources did not match the key challenges that recur from war to war. Both Lincoln and Johnson intervened in military operations, giving orders to specific units; yet both struggled with the rising unpopularity of their conflicts. Both Wilson and Bush entered hostilities with idealistic agendas for the aftermath, yet found themselves helpless to enact them. With insight and clarity, Polsky identifies overarching issues that will inform current and future policymakers. The single most important dynamic, he writes, is the erosion of a president's freedom of action. Each decision propels him down a path from which he cannot turn back. When George W. Bush rejected the idea of invading Iraq with 400,000 troops, he could not send such a force two years later as the insurgency spread. In the final chapter, Polsky examines Barack Obama's options in light of these conclusions, and considers how the experiences of the past might inform the world we face now. Elusive Victories is the first book to provide a comprehensive account of presidential leadership during wartime, highlighting the ke ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Robert Page. Panic Attack: Rewire Your Brain to Overcome Fears and Other Mental Health Issues. The Beginners Guide to Overcome Anxiety, Shyness, Worry, Depression and Phobia , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 181min
If you are looking for an accurate analysis of panic attacks and how to treat them for good, then keep reading...A panic attack is characterized by an abrupt feeling of too much fear and anxiety. It may be a one-time event, but there are cases when episodes recur. Repeat episodes are often caused by a particular situation that has been associated with a previous panic attack. Most of the time, the panic-triggering situation involves a sense of danger and the inability to escape. Panic attacks, especially if they are recurrent, can be symptoms of a more serious anxiety disorder. In fact, in the United States, around 20% of American adults or 60 million individuals experience panic attacks at least once in their lives. Out of this group, 1.7% or three million persons will suffer from full-blown panic disorder. On average, individuals suffer from panic attacks at the age of 15 to 19 years. Women are said to be more at risk of having panic attacks than men. The symptoms of a panic attack in women include more frequent repetition of episodes and more avoidance of anxiety-triggering situations compared to those in men. Also, most cases of panic attacks in women require medical care. During pregnancy, there can be a decrease, increase, or maintenance of the frequency of panic attacks. Depression Awareness: Everything You Need to Know About Depression , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 39min
There is a tendency to use the word depression to describe periods or episodes of sadness that each of us experience from time to time. And for many of us, during these periods it is not always easy to discern where normal sorrow ends and clinical depression begins. Yet, anyone who has ever experienced an episode of major depression knows - at least after the depression has lifted - that what they feel is more than just ongoing or persistent sadness. According to doctors, clinical depression is an illness characterized by a cluster of feelings, thoughts and behaviors that are remarkably distinct from a person's normal range of feelings and functioning. Caused by a complex interaction of biologic, psychological and social factors, a major depressive disorder can make a person extremely sensitive to life circumstances, the least of which can throw him/her into total loss of hope. During a major depression, someone can become surrounded by feelings of sadness, hopelessness, helplessness, and emptiness, and these feelings can distort every thought and experience, making life seem hopeless and unworthy. Feelings of being deeply and continually deprived, unworthy, insignificant, and guilt-ridden build on feelings of sadness. At the same time, a person may feel chronically irritable, often exploding into anger and frustration. While a major depression may be triggered by some life event or circumstance, a person's mood reaction may seem greatly exaggerated. However, depression has less to do with life's events than with an individual's existing vulnerability to the condition. In some cases, someone may experience a major depression as a single episode, but in most cases, clinical depression tends to recur periodically, reactively or cyclically. A major depressive episode could possibly last up to two or more years. When someone experiences milder depressive episodes, this is called dysthymia. For someone suffering from dysthymia, certain life circumstances, such ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Cathy Beard. The White Devil , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 769min
Set in a 400-year-old boys' boarding school in London, a chilling gothic thriller by the author of the critically acclaimed A Good and Happy Child.... A fierce and jealous ghost.... A young man's fight for his life.... The Harrow School is home to privileged adolescents known as much for their distinctive dress and traditions as for their arrogance and schoolboy cruelty. Seventeen-year-old American Andrew Taylor is enrolled in the esteemed British institution by his father, who hopes that the school's discipline will put some distance between his son and his troubled past in the States. But trouble - and danger - seem to follow Andrew. When one of his schoolmates and friends dies mysteriously of a severe pulmonary illness, Andrew is blamed and is soon an outcast, spurned by nearly all his peers. And there is the pale, strange boy who begins to visit him at night. Either Andrew is losing his mind, or the house legend about his dormitory being haunted is true. When the school's poet-in-residence, Piers Fawkes, is commissioned to write a play about Byron, one of Harrow's most famous alumni, he casts Andrew in the title role. Andrew begins to discover uncanny links between himself and the renowned poet. In his loneliness and isolation, Andrew becomes obsessed with Lord Byron's story and the poet's status not only as a literary genius and infamous seducer but as a student at the very different Harrow of two centuries prior - a place rife with violence, squalor, incurable diseases, and tormented love affairs. When frightening and tragic events from that long-ago past start to recur in Harrow's present, and when the dark and deadly specter by whom Andrew's been haunted seems to be all too real, Andrew is forced to solve a 200-year-old literary mystery that threatens the lives of his friends and his teachers - and, most terrifyingly, his own. ungekürzt. Flash Me: Heathens Ink, Book 6 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 529min
Love is multiplied, never divided.Liam I was kicked out at 16 for being transgender, but it turned out to be one of the best things to ever happen to me. At 21, I have a fantastic new family made up of my brother and a handful of wonderful friends, I own my own photography business, and I’m happier than I imagined possible. There’s just one thing missing.... Okay, maybe two....Wyatt When I took the position volunteering as a therapist at Rainbow House, I knew I’d found my place in the world: helping teens who had been rejected by their families. What I didn’t expect was the friendship I formed with Liam or how it would grow over the years into a crush I just couldn’t shake. I’m happy to see him finally opening himself up to dating with someone he trusts like Owen. But when he comes to me and asks if I can help his boyfriend, I feel like there’s more to the request than just a few therapy sessions. The more I get to know Owen, the more I like him, too.Owen I’m not sure why I believe so much in fate when she’s dealt me nothing but crappy hands - a stint in prison and enough childhood horrors to fuel all my adult nightmares. But I still hold on to the idea that everything happens for a reason. What I can’t figure out is why fate would plop me naked into Liam’s bed under the pretext of helping him with a photo series for a gallery showing. Or why my stomach goes funny every time he smiles at me. Liam is too sweet to be exposed to my demons, but I don’t know how to protect him.... Maybe that’s why fate gave us Wyatt. *This is the seventh book in the Heathens Ink series. Each book in the series can be listened to as a stand-alone, but characters do recur so it’s more fun to listen to them all! ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Kenneth Obi. Götterdämmerung - Ring Weimar
A bleak wind chord of E flat minor opens Richard Wagner’s Götterdämmerung. It establishes the dominant atmosphere of the piece from its first bar: twilight, a deceptive half-light, prevails. Shadowy figures stumble towards the abyss. The last evening of the Ring is one of plotting and betrayal, of ominous oaths, a chilling lust for power, abuse and humiliation – and, also, of a superbly staged apocalypse, when the beings and things destined for destruction shine brightly for one last time. The leitmotivs and thematic ideas from throughout the whole tetralogy recur in Götterdämmerung, intensified and woven into a musical web from which there can be no escape. Everything appears to fit together fatally with everything else. There is nothing more to be done. The net of catastrophe is knotted too fatefully for that, both musically and dramatically. When Wagner sat down to write a prose outline of what turned out as the last part of the Ring, he called it Siegfried’s Death. That was in the year of revolutions, 1848. The new title, usually translated as Twilight of the Gods, came later (Bernard Shaw called it Night Falls on the Gods but that never caught on). All the threads of the drama run now towards the hero’s fall. The death of Siegfried precipitates the final dissolution of the gods’ world, set in train by Wotan when he impiously tore a branch from the World Ash-Tree, and to which the god was already resigned long ago, before he knew of Siegfried’s conception. The natural order has been diverted from its proper course, and the last hope of righting it rests with Siegfried – the human being of the future. He knows no constraints, no fear of violence moderates his thirst for action, he is naïve and spontaneous. To Wagner he represented Utopia, Thomas Mann described him as “harlequin, god of light and anarchistic social revolutionary”, Shaw as “a totally unmoral person, a born anarchist, the ideal of Bakunin, an anticipation of the ‘overman’ of Nietzsche”. Yet he is unfree, nevertheless: he must run on the rails laid by Wotan and thus he is the instrument (one might say, war machine) of the failing power of the old gods as they wait for annihilation. The truly new, however, as Wagner saw it, can only rise from the ashes of the old. So Siegfried too must die, and Brünnhilde, magnanimous in forgiveness, assumes the roles of tragic heroine and redeemer by her self-sacrifice.- Shop: odax
