    Seguimiento continuo de una estructura civil:
    La monitorización sísmica de la salud estructural (S2HM) permite la evaluación continua de las estructuras de ingeniería para estimar su seguridad y hacer recomendaciones de mejora en tiempo real mediante el análisis de datos y modelos matemáticos. Por primera vez en Colombia, se ha desplegado una red de monitoreo continuo con un propósito académico en un edificio de 14 pisos de estructura de acero ecológico en el centro de Bogotá. Seis acelerómetros de 3 componentes comenzaron a registrar en junio de 2019. Como un intento inicial de entender la respuesta del edificio, con solo 25 días de datos registrados continuamente, se analizó el comportamiento antropogénico a partir de los datos basados en la vibración ambiental.A continuación, siguiendo el enfoque de interferometría sísmica basado en la deconvolución propuesto por Prieto, et al., 2010, para una campaña de monitorización de 225 días, se estimó la Función de Respuesta al Impulso (IRF), a partir de 2 fuentes de datos diferentes: 225 días de datos registrados de forma continua y 49 terremotos registrados, ambos utilizados como entrada en las mediciones de variación de velocidad, utilizando una técnica de estiramiento. Un notable sismo de M6 ocurrió el 24 de diciembre de 2019, en Mesetas, Meta, produciendo un cambio significativo en la respuesta del edificio, notado en ambos conjuntos de datos.

    Escorias básicas de Siderúrgica: (eBook, ePUB)
    La industria siderúrgica genera un sinnúmero de residuos sólidos contaminantes. Las escorias básicas (blancas) producidas durante el afino del acero en el horno cuchara, es un residuo que amerita ser investigado y valorado en sus efectos por el impacto que representa ambientalmente su disposición final y manejo. Agronómicamente se atribuye a las escorias básicas un alto potencial para controlar la acidez de suelos agrícolas limitados en su fertilidad. La presente investigación evaluó la reactividad química que como material de encalado presentan las escorias básicas de SIDENAL S.A., Colombia, donde se producen del orden de 400 toneladas mes de este residuo. Mediante análisis químicos especiales se comprobó que la escoria básica evaluada presenta un equivalente químico (EQCaCO3) de 115, superior al del CaCO3 puro, lo que junto a la alta participación de óxidos de calcio y magnesio en su composición, hace ver este residuo industrial superior a una gran mayoría de materiales de encalado ofertados comercialmente en Colombia. Los resultados obtenidos tanto en pruebas de incubación como en pruebas biológicas, indicaron que la aplicación de escorias básicas promueve en suelos ácidos e infértiles, cambios que impactan favorablemente su fertilidad química. Derivado del uso de escorias es posible registrar residualidad de níquel (Ni) y cromo (Cr) en la solución del suelo y en el tejido vegetal, muy por debajo de los niveles considerados contaminantes. Los resultados finales de esta investigación, constituyen un valioso referente para la industria siderúrgica en lo relacionado al uso de las escorias básicas en agricultura. El impacto de este conocimiento plantea una nueva estrategia hacia la reconversión y manejo de residuos sólidos industriales, cuyos volúmenes de producción ofrecen contaminación de diferente tipo y magnitud.
