  Herausgegeben vom Antiklerikalen Arbeitskreis der Bunten Liste Freiburg (heute: Bund gegen Anpassung), sind die Ketzerbriefe als Dokumentation der Verfolgung von Atheisten und Kirchenkritikern auf der Grundlage des 'Gotteslästerungsparagraphen' 166 StGB entstanden, die in den 80er Jahren im Schutze einer nahezu lückenlosen Pressesperre massiv betrieben wurde. Als einzige zusammenhängende Darstellung dieser Verfolgung entwickelten sie sich bald zu einem Kristallisationspunkt der Gegenwehr. 1986 initiierte die Bunte Liste in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Präsidenten des Internationalen Russell-Tribunals, Professor Vladimir Dedijer, einen Aufruf zur Abschaffung dieses - wie Tucholsky ihn nannte - mittelalterlichen Diktaturparagraphen, der von Prominenten wie Noam Chomsky, Erich Fried, Hans Wollschläger, Bernt Engelmann, Ernest Mandel, Friedrich Karl Waechter, Günther Anders, Ingeborg Drewitz und Karlheinz Deschner unterzeichnet wurde. Die Presse ignorierte diesen Aufruf; die 'Süddeutsche Zeitung' verweigerte sogar den als Inserat bezahlten Abdruck - wie auch den Abdruck bezahlter Werbeinserate für die Ketzerbriefe.Seit 1989 sind sie, thematisch erweitert, zur 'Flaschenpost für unangepaßte Gedanken' geworden und bieten - neben der fortgesetzten Dokumentation religiöser und politischer Verfolgung - inmitten der inzwischen gesamtdeutsch gleichgeschalteten Medienlandschaft - eine Fülle von Informationen und übergreifenden Analysen, die man sonst nirgendwo findet.
