Donald Trump defied expectations, by being nominated and then by being elected. But now the standard of success is even greater. How will President Trump compare with past presidents? Will he have the negotiating skills of Abe Lincoln? The crisis management ability of JFK? The communication capacity of Ronald Reagan? The job creation knack of Bill Clinton? The unifying power of George Washington? Will he be tremendous, big league? Or will history instead call Donald Trump a middling president? This short book gives examples of presidential greatness, and then invites you to consider your own judgments about Donald Trump's performance, as his presidency proceeds. The book reminds America and the world that as citizens of these United States we each have the right and the civic duty to publicly judge our presidents and to let them know the standards we want them to meet. As President Theodore Roosevelt said, "The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile." ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: John W. Ogilvie. While there may be common symptoms and underlying causes for codependency, recovery and treatment vary from person to person. It is not easy to break, and even a psychiatric specialist may need support. But Codependent Anonymous meetings can help people who feel that a group approach can be best.  For almost four decades, the term codependence has been around. While it was originally used for partners of alcoholics, previously referred to as co-alcoholics, research revealed that codependent behaviors were much more common in the general public than was believed. They found, in fact, that if you were raised in a dysfunctional family, or if you had an ill parent, you probably depend on code. If that includes you, don't feel bad. The majority of families in America are dysfunctional, so you're the majority of them! They also found that the symptoms of codependence were worse, but the great news is that they are reversible. A list of symptoms is provided here. You don't have to count all of them as codependents. If you are concerned that you might suffer from codependency, there are a few things to take into account when deciding whether a concern is warranted. First, ask yourself if your relationship is based on a habit of addiction, which affects your everyday life. It may be shocking, but codependence is, in fact, a "dependence" on love and relationships. Codependents often lose sleep, have poor eating habits, and poor social and working conditions. There are many fantastic resources to help you and get you on the way to healing.  ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Julie Lonet. Odysseus is, without question, one of the most fascinating figures in classical mythology. Indeed, despite being an ancillary character in The Iliad, he was so beloved by ancient audiences that he warranted his own spin-off, The Odyssey. He was endemic throughout Greek thought and art, appearing in statues, theatrical pieces, poems, and orations, and he was equally prevalent in later Roman culture. Unlike other notable figures of classical antiquity who were forgotten during the Middle Ages (including a fair few who, unlike Odysseus himself, actually existed outside the realm of legend), Odysseus' fame endured, and he made regular appearances in Medieval and Renaissance literature, including a memorable turn in Dante's Inferno. To this day Odysseus remains a highly popular character, having appeared on both the big and small screens, having been featured in a slew of novels, and even making appearances in Japanese anime and Japanese videogames. Characters inspired by Odysseus and his adventures are a staple of modern fiction, and locations said to match those from the Odyssey are scattered throughout the Mediterranean, particularly in Greece and Italy. The true root of Odysseus' mass appeal is that he is a figure of startling complexity. Unlike other main characters in the Epic Cycle, Odysseus does not conform to any particular archetype. While Odysseus' defining characteristic is clearly his intelligence - he was known to the Greeks almost universally as "Cunning Odysseus" - he is no mere schemer, as he was also considered one of the bravest and most renowned warriors to fight in the Trojan War. ungekürzt. Very Short Introductions: Brilliant, Sharp, Inspiring In today's society, work takes up a vast proportion of the time and energy of ordinary people. Although use of the phrase 'work-life balance' is now commonplace in the media and ordinary conversation, people work longer hours than ever before. However, rather than purely a means to an end in terms of supporting oneself financially, the workplace is a place to develop skills and talents and build lasting friendships. For these reasons, people want to know about their rights in the workplace. Issues of equal pay, discrimination, discharge/dismissal, and redundancy are prevalent within the media, and there is a growing public appetite for knowledge of the law governing the employment relationship. This Very Short Introduction provides an overview of the main kinds of employment rights and labour laws found in many countries. It unpicks and evaluates some of the assumptions underpinning contemporary attitudes to such rights and laws in order to measure whether they are warranted. Throughout it also considers the economic, political, sociological, and social justifications for employment rights and laws. ABOUT THE SERIES: The Very Short Introductions series from Oxford University Press contains hundreds of titles in almost every subject area. These pocket-sized books are the perfect way to get ahead in a new subject quickly. Our expert authors combine facts, analysis, perspective, new ideas, and enthusiasm to make interesting and challenging topics highly readable.

The problem of evil has generated varying attempts at theodicy. To show that suffering is defeated for a sufferer, a theodicy argues that there is an outweighing benefit which could not have been gotten without the suffering. Typically, this condition has the tacit presupposition given that this is a post-Fall world. Consequently, there is a sense in which human suffering would not be shown to be defeated even if there were a successful theodicy because a theodicy typically implies that the benefit in question could have been gotten without the suffering if there had not been a Fall. There is a part of the problem of evil that would remain, then, even if there were a successful theodicy. This is the problem of mourning: even defeated suffering in the post-Fall world merits mourning. How is this warranted mourning compatible with the existence of an omniscient, omnipotent, perfectly good God? The traditional response to this problem is the felix culpa view, which maintains that the original sin was fortunate because there is an outweighing benefit to sufferers that could not be gotten in a world without suffering. The felix culpa view presupposes an object of evaluation, namely, the true self of a human being, and a standard of evaluation for human lives. This book explores these and a variety of other topics in philosophical theology in order to explain and evaluate the role of suffering in human lives.

Metaphysical bible students recognize in the Gospel of John a certain spiritual quality that is not found in the other Gospels. Although this is not true of all bible readers, it may be said that those who look for the mystical find it in the language of this book. The book is distinctive in this respect and is so successful in setting forth metaphysical truths that little interpretation is necessary. Only in a few instances does the original writing conceal the deep truths that the student seeks to discern. Written language is at best a reflection of inner ideas, and even though a teacher couples ideas and words as adroitly as Jesus does, elucidation is sometimes difficult. Nevertheless ideas are catching, and this may be the best reason for publishing another book about this spirit-arousing Fourth Gospel. We are all heavily charged with ideas, and when these ideas are released they spring forth and pass from mind to mind, being recorded as they fly, and when they are expressed the whole race is lifted up - if the idea is charged with the uplifting Spirit. Jesus was God's idea of man-made manifest in the flesh; so He was warranted in making that dynamic assertion, "if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself." Nowhere in all literature has this truth of the unity of God, man, and creation been so fearlessly expressed and affirmed by man as in the Book of John. Here the question arises as to God's responsibility for all that appears in the flesh, both good and evil, which seems to confound our logic and understanding. ungekürzt. Language: English. The only possible thing that could make Morgan's world even more difficult happened. The Japanese fleet off the coast of California was wiped out. An even that Morgan and friends and family only knew about because of the radio broadcasts from the Radio Free Redoubt. So far removed from them it barely warranted notice. That is until the Chinese retaliated by launching a nuclear counter-strike against Mac Dill Air Force base. This, did warrant their attention and had the potential to profoundly impact their lives. As bad as the fear of nuclear fallout was, it wasn't the only threat still haunting northern Lake county. With proof the Russians had pathfinder units on the ground, at a minimum, in the state and discovery of Cuban forces cooperating with them, something had to be done. After encountering armored units and realizing they were ill equipped to deal with the threat, the old man called for help. The call was answered, but would require a near impossible trip by truck to Eglin Air Force base. America was certainly on the ropes, but she wasn't down yet. All Morgan wants to do is protect his family and friends. To restore a normal sense of life. To see to it Mel and his girls are safe and protected. He doesn't want to get involved in these military actions. He's more focused on trying to restore power to town. But his desires are, to use a military term, overtaken by circumstances, and, once again, Morgan and his friends are compelled to get involved. And this time, it will cost them. ungekürzt.
