Many people experience anxiety at some point in their lives. You feel anxiety when speaking in public, trying something new, or meeting someone special. Your palms get sweaty. Your heart races. You feel a ball in your stomach. Your chest feels tight. Anxiety is good in some situations. It prepares us for flight-or-flight responses. It prompts us to take action or to plan out what is going to occur in a situation. Anxiety in mild forms can be a good thing. Our body is designed to be anxious in situations where we should take control and take action. Anxiety that pervades everything in our life, causes us to be sick, and keeps us awake at night is bad. Anxiety can escalate to another level. When a person is exposed to traumatic or negative events where they feel little or no control in the outcome, the anxiety can turn into post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). If you have enough recurring events in your life that are traumatic, you may even be diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD). Complex PTSD is a disorder that often affects soldiers, battered women, and children who have been in abusive and domestic violence situations. It is used to diagnose people who have been exposed to long-term and repeated exposure to situations out of their control, whereas normal PTSD can occur in someone with exposure to one or two traumatic events. PTSD can happen when someone is raped or is the victim of other violent circumstances, like a shooting event. A person who dates or marries a psychopath or a narcissist can have complex PTSD. A child who is sexually abused repeatedly is also likely to have complex PTSD. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sorrel Brigman. Many people have heard about the Peter Pan syndrome. The term was coined by Dr. Dan Kiley in the book The Peter Pan Syndrome: Men Who Have Never Grown Up. He also wrote another book terming the women who loved the emotionally immature man as "Wendy", referring to the Peter Pan story and movie in which Wendy falls in love with the boy who can never be who she wants him to be. He is the boy who is incapable of feeling love for another person, and he lives to serve his own sense of self, independence, and needs. This audiobook seeks to define the traits of the men who may be classified as Peter Pans. We will also cover the harmless types of Peter Pans as well as mention those types who are much more harmful. We will touch on the frustrations that might occur in the interactions between Peter Pans and their friends, partners, and family members. Once we can define a Peter Pan, we can lower our expectations in relating to these types and seek to understand their limitations as we interact with them. We have all met men who have the Peter Pan syndrome. Many of these men are also narcissistic and self-absorbed simply by the nature of the Peter Pan syndrome. A man who is stuck in his path through life as a boy never matures emotionally. He carries around his childhood sense of himself throughout his life. In many instances, his tastes do not grow or change. The way that he interacts with others does not grow or change. He is still stuck as a 12-year-old boy, or sometimes even younger, in his emotional development. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sorrel Brigman. Many people live with, work with, and interact with narcissists on a daily basis. They may be your coworker, your mother, your daughter, your sister-in-law, or your boss. Narcissists are self-centric, rude, and lacking in empathy for others. They have a tendency to lie, steal, cheat, and hurt other people. Sometimes this is intentional on the part of the narcissist, and other times it is due to his brain wiring and immature emotions. Narcissistic traits are often passed down from one generation to the next. Narcissism can pervade an entire family lineage. The truth of the matter is that just one narcissistic injury can lead a mother or father to injuring many generations of children and grandchildren that come after him or her. Neither generation heals before they bear more children, and thus the cycle of abuse continues from one generation to the next, often poisoning an entire family lineage over time. Narcissistic traits don't have to come from full-fledged narcissistic personality disorder. Narcissistic traits can be linked to many mental health disorders, psychological complexes and personality disorders. Society believes that an internal state of being is not conducive to living in a society, and thus inwardness is seen as unhealthy by most. Task-orientation and object-orientation is also seen as unhealthy on some levels, because empathy helps us to see why our skills and actions are necessary for the betterment of all people, not just for the betterment of ourselves. In this book, we will discuss the family unit in more depth as it pertains to narcissism. We will talk about the narcissistic mother, the narcissistic father, and the narcissistic children. We will discuss what happens when narcissists become grandparents. We will cover how the narcissist came to be and why the narcissistic injury is passed down from one generation to the next. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sorrel Brigman. Many of us have met a person who suffers from caveman syndrome at one point in our lives. It may be the plumber, a teacher, your husband, or your boss at work. The person is often critical, grumpy, and rude toward others. The caveman is short-sighted and stuck in the past. He is a stick in the mud of epic proportions. He is chronically unhappy, and he strives to make everyone else in the world just as unhappy as he is. A caveman may be a person who trolls the Internet and flames others just to get their reactions. He leaves terrible reviews or feedback on the works of others even when he isn't invited or asked for his opinion. He often exerts his negative opinion on others in fruitless attempts to get reactions, including love, admiration, affection, and even hatred. So long as the narcissistic caveman is being hated or loved, he is mildly amused enough to continue engaging in the world around him. The narcissistic caveman rarely does much good in the life of others. He often stirs up trouble, elicits negative attention from others, and rains chaos down on the people whom he feels are beneath him. He lives his life being parasitic or bothersome to others. He is still a little kid inside, vying frantically for the attention of the adults and children who surround him. You may be wondering what causes caveman syndrome, what the symptoms are, and what can be done to help the person with caveman syndrome. You might also be wondering how caveman syndrome is linked to narcissistic traits. This audiobook seeks to uncover the truths behind this mysterious condition from which many suffer, including those who are in the direct path of the person suffering from the disorder. Many people experience the Jocasta Complex in reference to the proverbial "mama's boy". The mother often becomes obsessed with her relationship with her son to the exclusion of many other relationships and interests. She generally only chooses a favorite son whom she puts on a pedestal. She may treat this son as though he is her husband or romantic partner rather than being her offspring. Many mothers have a tendency towards becoming obsessive over one particular child. This often occurs when a mother has married a self-absorbed or narcissistic partner. The husband may be neglectful of the wife and child, and thus the mother seeks to redirect her energies elsewhere. She becomes depressed and confused with the rejection from her partner, and so she thrusts her depression and neediness back onto the child. The Jocasta mother never encourages her child to grow in a healthy way and to define his own personality. She becomes needy, clingy and distraught when he leaves the home, exerts his independence, or finds a romantic partner. She becomes an obnoxious and cruel mother-in-law when her son finally marries. She often tries to destroy the relationship between her son and his mate, frantically trying to restore the relationship that she has with her son. The Jocasta Complex may become significantly more obvious as the mother ages or when she loses her husband. She may have been asocial or antisocial due to having Asperger's Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, or some other mental health issues, so she relies on the son for her sole support. She rarely anticipates that her son will eventually become independent and wish to have his own life. She may punish him for making any efforts to do so. She often elicits shame and guilt in her son, consistently reminding him that he is "abandoning" her. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sorrel Brigman. It is likely that you have been recently told by a spouse, friend, family member, or health-care provider that you have OCPD. What does that mean to you? You have been the same way all of your life. All of your family members have likely been this way as well. You involve yourself deeply in your work and in ensuring that your family and yourself are well provided for. Your employer seems to be happy with your hard work and perseverance. You are stable and grounded. But someone in your life is struggling with your OCPD. They struggle to get you to change your mind once you are set on something. You have a natural tendency to correct the behavior of others if they aren’t meeting your standards and your expectations of them. You get frustrated easily if someone disagrees or has a different opinion than you. You may be miserly and a stickler for always being on time. You may hold on to things for a long time, just in case you might need them later. After all, you worked hard and earned money to buy those nice things. You just can't see throwing them away or selling them. What you see as positive personality traits that have gotten your family through centuries of famine and war seem to be bothering others who want to communicate with you or live with you. In order to have positive relationships with other people, there are other positive personality traits that would help assist you to maintain growth and bonding in areas like your marriage. Many of the traits that you have likely came from your ancestors and have been passed down through generations. Your family may have been large and struggled to ensure there was always food on the table. There may have been famine, sickness, disease, or war that affected your grandparents or your great-grandparents. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sorrel Brigman. It is said that there is an epidemic of narcissists in the world today. Many people go out in the dating world, trying to find someone who is relatively willing and able to have a committed relationship after a certain amount of time. Many of us want partners who are emotionally mature, able to communicate with us, and able to provide intimacy and trust in the relationship. There is no way to get a completely accurate picture of how many narcissists there truly are in the world. Sam Vaknin indicates in his book Malignant Self Love-Revisited that it could be around 15 percent, but people with narcissistic traits and those with full-blown narcissistic personality disorder would rarely seek treatment long enough to be diagnosed, would be likely to lie on any tests or questionnaires, and would not pursue treatment. In other words, the numbers could truly be much higher because of the inability to really capture this subgenre of individuals to count them all. Narcissists are generally seriously damaged inside by some type of narcissistic injury. Some people with narcissistic traits may have had head injuries or may have some form of autistic spectrum disorder. They may have been born lacking certain areas of their brain that help them to empathize with others, to read social cues, and to break out of their repetition. They may have experienced intrusive, abusive, or neglectful parents who taught them maladjusted ways to relate in the world. People who display narcissistic tendencies may have been born with severely underdeveloped areas of the brain that even lead to psychopathic traits and behaviors (impulsivity, lack of remorse, intense boredom, criminal behavior). Some of these individuals go on to become CEOs while others go on to become serial killers or spouse batterers. Download now to hear more! ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sorrel Brigman. Many people come to me in despair after they realize that they are in the pits of hell in their relationship with a narcissist. They have been lied to, cheated on, manipulated, and gas-lighted. Their partner isolates them, puts them down, denies them their basic human needs, and abuses them emotionally. Some narcissists even resort to severe physical violence, up to and including murder. It is no doubt that you are afraid on some level in your relationship with a narcissist. You feel anxious because you were never given the coping mechanisms to deal with the situation that you have been thrust into. You feel confused, consumed, and disoriented. Some people who have been in a relationship with a narcissist long enough have lost their ability to analyze, reason, and make any sort of decisions. They are in survival mode due to the trauma bonding that occurs when a person is in a relationship with someone who causes cognitive dissonance in their brain. A narcissist's partner is almost always in a state of disorientation by the narcissist's behavior. It is easy to think that the narcissist has multiple personalities (Jekyll and Hyde) or that they have the symptoms of bipolar disorder. The person has such a labile emotional state and inconsistent behavior, so it is easy to see how narcissists can be considered psychotic or delusional at times. The narcissist's moral state is very flexible. He justifies bad behavior any time he feels that it's required to control the world around him. He resorts to lying and justification any time it suits him. He jumps to conclusions far too quickly, shows a lack of social skills and emotional maturity, and lacks regard for other people's needs or wants. It is no surprise that a relationship with a narcissist will elicit very strong feelings by any normal person. This book will help uncover the different emotions that are experienced in a relationship with a purpose. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sorrel Brigman. Narcissism is running rampant in our society. We are becoming victims of other people who are self-centric, self-absorbed, distrustful and neurotic. Many of these people are experiencing delusions, psychotic episodes, hallucinations, cognitive deficits, attention deficits and memory deficits. They may have low IQ, head injury trauma or other disabilities that they have never exposed to us. You may be a very trusting person. You may think that another person will be candid with you about the child abuse that they may have experienced. You meet someone else, and they tell you that they come from a good family. They tell you everything that you want to hear. They tell you everything that they aspire to be, instead of telling you what they truly are. None of us is perfect. But the least perfect person of all is the narcissist. He will lead you to believe that he is perfect in many ways. He will convince you that he is the only person who will ever love you the 'right' way. He is convinced that the world revolves around him. He will make you convinced of this eventually, too. This is his sole purpose, and he is very good at the skills that he uses to achieve this goal. This book, like the other books in my narcissist series, seeks to further educate those who are victims of narcissists. My hopes are that you are in a safe place at the current time, and that your mind is clear. You might be trauma bonded to the narcissist so severely that you can't seem to remember who you even are anymore. This is what the narcissist does: he is a parasite, and he sucks the life out of anyone that he comes in contact with. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Sorrel Brigman.
