DeCarlo A. Eskridge presents Wallace D. Wattles’ The Science of Success, based on a collection of works from the best-selling author of The Science of Getting Rich. This book is a compilation of some of Wattles’ finest works: How to Get What You Want, How to Promote Yourself, The Law of Opulence, and The Science of Attracting Love. This book is a practical success manual intended for the individual whose most pressing need is for success, who wish to succeed first and theorize later. It is for those who do not have the time, means, or opportunity to go deeply into the study of metaphysics, but who desire the results and who are willing to take the conclusions herein as a basis for action, without going into all the means by which those conclusions were reached. It is expected that the listener would take the fundamental statements upon faith, just as he would take statements concerning the laws of wealth if they were promulgated by Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, or Elon Musk, and prove their truth by acting upon them without fear or hesitation. All who practice these principles will succeed; failure is not an option. In writing this book, all other considerations have been sacrificed to plainness and simplicity of style so that all might understand it. The plan of action laid down herein is the byproduct of some of the greatest success philosophies ever deduced. It has been thoroughly tested and bears the supreme test of practical experiment. It works. If you wish to reap the fruits of these philosophies in actual practice, listen to this audiobook repeatedly and do exactly what it tells you to do. The proven success science system herein is guaranteed to change your life. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Kris Keppeler. For those in the final stages of awakening: Things become much more simplified at the end of the spiritual search...so much so that it's possible to identify key stages that every seeker encounters immediately preceding awakening (enlightenment). So in one sense, these five steps have not been invented by me. I have simply segmented the final stages that a seeker of truth encounters when they have reached the end of the spiritual search (for greater clarity and guidance). If you've been on the spiritual path long enough, you've probably reached the conclusion that no technique or practice can wake you up, make you free, or make you enlightened. You will have likely realized that all effort to attain a different state of consciousness can only ever come from a delusional state of consciousness or false self. So what does one do then when one realizes such a thing? If there's nothing that you can do to set yourself free, then how do you become free? Enter the five final steps of self-inquiry. The Method is based upon the understanding that spiritual awakening is not an attainment, but a dissolution. These five steps are intended to permanently dissolve the deeply ingrained belief that you can make yourself free. If these steps are followed through with utter totality, awakening will be what's left as a byproduct. While no methods 'work' when it comes to awakening, all methods fail... so in a way, any method can be helpful to exhaust the seeker in you. This method has been formed specifically for those who have tried every other method under the sun and are ready for defeat. This method is intended to be the last method. ungekürzt. John Fitzgerald Kennedy led his nation for little more than a thousand days, yet his presidency is intensely remembered, not merely as a byproduct of his tragic fate. Kennedy steered the nation away from the brink of nuclear war, initiated the first nuclear test ban treaty, created the Peace Corps, and launched American on its mission to the moon and beyond. JFK inspired a nation, particularly the massive generation of baby boomers, injecting hope and revitalizing faith in the American project. 2013 will mark the fiftieth anniversary of Kennedy's untimely death, a milestone to be marked by an avalanche of new books on his life and importance. Martin Sandler's The Letters of John F. Kennedy will stand out among them, as the only book that draws on letters from and to Kennedy, as collected at the Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. Drawn from more than two million letters on file at the library - many never before published - this project presents readers with a portrait of both Kennedy the politician and Kennedy the man, as well as the times he lived in. Letters to and from the likes of Martin Luther King Jr, Clare Booth Luce, Pearl Buck, John Wayne, Albert Schweitzer, Linus Pauling, Willy Brandt, Eleanor Roosevelt, Nikita Khruschev, Harry Truman, Herbert Hoover, a young John Kerry, and Ngo Dinh Diem are complemented by letters from ordinary citizens, schoolchildren, and concerned Americans. Each letter will accompanied by lively and informative contextualization. Facsimiles of many letters will appear, along with photographs and other visual ephemera from the Kennedy Library and Museum. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Eugene H. Congress is the first branch of government in the American system, write Thomas E. Mann and Norman J. Ornstein, but now it is a broken branch, damaged by partisan bickering and internal rancor. The Broken Branch offers both a brilliant diagnosis of the cause of Congressional decline and a much-needed blueprint for change, from two experts who understand politics and revere our institutions, but believe that Congress has become deeply dysfunctional. Mann and Ornstein, two of the nations most renowned and judicious scholars of government and politics, bring to light the historical roots of Congress's current maladies, examining 40 years of uninterrupted Democratic control of the House and the stunning midterm election victory of 1994 that propelled Republicans into the majority in both House and Senate. The byproduct of that long and grueling but ultimately successful Republican campaign, the authors reveal, was a weakened institution bitterly divided between the parties. They highlight the dramatic shift in Congress from a highly decentralized, committee-based institution into a much more regimented one in which party increasingly trumps committee. The resultant changes in the policy process - the demise of regular order, the decline of deliberation, and the weakening of our system of checks and balances - have all compromised the role of Congress in the American Constitutional system. Strong majority leadership in Congress, the authors conclude, led not to a vigorous exertion of congressional authority but to a general passivity in the face of executive power. A vivid portrait of an institution that has fallen far from the aspirations of our Founding Fathers, The Broken Branch highlights the costs of a malfunctioning Congress to national policymaking, and outlines what must be done to repair the damage. ungekürzt. From Tim Wu, author of the award-winning The Master Switch (a New Yorker and Fortune Book of the Year) and who coined the term "net neutrality” - a revelatory, ambitious, and urgent account of how the capture and resale of human attention became the defining industry of our time. Feeling attention challenged? Even assaulted? American business depends on it. Attention merchant: an industrial-scale harvester of human attention. A firm whose business model is the mass capture of attention for resale to advertisers. In nearly every moment of our waking lives, we face a barrage of messaging, advertising enticements, branding, sponsored social media, and other efforts to harvest our attention. Few moments or spaces of our day remain uncultivated by the "attention merchants", contributing to the distracted, unfocused tenor of our times. Tim Wu argues that this condition is not simply the byproduct of recent technological innovations but the result of more than a century's growth and expansion in the industries that feed on human attention. From the pre-Madison Avenue birth of advertising to the explosion of the mobile web; from AOL and the invention of email to the attention monopolies of Google and Facebook; from Ed Sullivan to celebrity power brands like Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, and Donald Trump, the basic business model of "attention merchants" has never changed: free diversion in exchange for a moment of your consideration, sold in turn to the highest-bidding advertiser. Wu describes the revolts that have risen against the relentless siege of our awareness, from the remote control to the creation of public broadcasting to Apple's ad-blocking OS. But he makes clear that attention merchants are always growing new heads, even as their means of getting inside our heads are changing our very nature - cognitive, social, political, and otherwise - in ways ungekürzt. Stardom is only a byproduct of acting. I don't think being a movie star is a good enough reason for existing. (Natalie Wood) A lot of ink has been spilled covering the lives of history's most influential figures, but how much of the forest is lost for the trees? In Charles River Editors' American Legends series, listeners can get caught up to speed on the lives of America's most important men and women in the time it takes to finish a commute, while learning interesting facts long forgotten or never known. Few actresses have ever gotten the kind of career start that Natalie Wood did during the 1950s. After appearing in film and on TV as a child, Wood broke out by appearing in the classic Rebel Without a Cause alongside James Dean in 1955, despite the fact she was still just 15 years old. She earned an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for that role, one of three Academy Award nominations she would rack up before the age of 25. That included starring in Splendor in the Grass (1961), West Side Story (1961), and Gypsy (1962). Altogether, she was in over 50 films. Given that she was a successful actress for several decades, it's no surprise that Wood generated a lot of press during her career, and her personal life in particular was tabloid fodder. When she married star actor Robert Wagner, they had one of Hollywood's most famous and most successful marriages. But Wood was also notorious for relying on psychoanalysts, to the extent that she would become heavily reliant on constantly having access to one. People were also caught by surprise when Wood retired after the birth of her daughter in 1970, and unfortunately, that has contributed to the fact that she is best remembered today for her mysterious drowning in 1981. ungekürzt. Two days before Super Bowl XLI in 2007, the game's two opposing head coaches posed with the trophy one of them would hoist after the contest. It was a fairly unremarkable event, except that both coaches were African American - a fact that was as much of a story as the game itself. As Jeremi Duru reveals in Advancing the Ball, this unique milestone resulted from the work of a determined group of people whose struggles to expand head coaching opportunities for African Americans ultimately changed the National Football League. Since the league's desegregation in 1946, opportunities had grown plentiful for African Americans as players but not as head coaches - the byproduct of the NFL's old-boy network and lingering stereotypes of blacks' intellectual inferiority. Although Major League Baseball and the NBA had, over the years, made progress in this regard, the NFL's head coaches were almost exclusively white up until the mid-1990s. Advancing the Ball chronicles the campaign of former Cleveland Browns offensive lineman John Wooten to right this wrong and undo decades of discriminatory head coach hiring practices--an initiative that finally bore fruit when he joined forces with attorneys Cyrus Mehri and Johnnie Cochran. Together with a few allies, the triumvirate galvanized the NFL's African American assistant coaches to stand together for equal opportunity and convinced the league to enact the "Rooney Rule," which stipulates that every team must interview at least one minority candidate when searching for a new head coach. In doing so, they spurred a movement that would substantially impact the NFL and, potentially, the nation. Featuring an impassioned foreword by Coach Tony Dungy, Advancing the Ball offers an eye-opening, first-hand look at how a few committed individuals initiated a sea change in America's most popular sport and added an extraordinary new chapter to the civil rights story. ungekürzt.
