The Texas Rangers are not just a baseball team - they’re a highly selective, professionalized law enforcement unit with the goal of investigating major crimes and promoting law and order in the state of Texas. But they haven’t always been as selective or as professionalized.Early Texas Rangers were men who gathered together with their own horses and handguns, ready to defend their territory and their towns from perceived threats. When the threat was eliminated, the pseudo-militia disbanded, but the spirit of the Rangers remained. This concept endured the ebb and flow of political attitudes, civil war, and constant crime. Through it all, the Rangers learned to alter methods and protocols to address the ever-changing threats faced by the people of Texas, from border incursions, to professional criminals, drug deals, labor strikes, and angry pro-segregation mobs. Since their inception, the Texas Ranger division has served as a unique defense force for the state of Texas, adapting their methods to the context and environment, while maintaining the constant mission of protecting and defending the people and institutions of Texas. ungekürzt. The history of the American gun is intricately entwined with the history of America itself, and the potential future developments in gun technology could change the world. However, the radical anti-gun lobby stands between innovation and the American people. Best-selling author Frank Miniter describes amazing breakthroughs waiting to happen in gun technology - and how gun grabbers threaten to stop progress in its tracks. In The Future of the Gun, you will learn about: Integrated electronic optics systems embedded in firearms are making them accurate in a novice shooter's hands beyond 10 football fields. Controlled-expansion bullets are now being engineered to perform through bone, cinder blocks, and a lot of other mediums. Beginning with the AccuTrigger, a revolution has taken over gun trigger designs that's making rifles much more accurate. In the last two decades, over-the-counter rifles have become as accurate as custom rifles. This is due to consumer demand and new machining capabilities. Simple, ultra-reliable, cost-efficient designs from pistol makers like Glock and Beretta have made it possible to make smaller, lighter, more powerful handguns at prices (when adjusted for inflation) the world has never seen. ungekürzt. This is the 2nd book in a series of Pulp Noir. The rich history of Pulp stories are pure Americana. Written like a script from Film Noir movie, you are to be transported to a time in the 30's, 40's or 50's, where the liquor flowed freely and there was always a Crosley radio playing in some room off in the distance. The stories don't always end on a high note, or even end at all. The magic of a Pulp Noir short story is that the listener is supposed to wonder what comes next. After the last word on the page, the story for the characters moves on long after the final sentence. Unless the character is lying face down in a pool of blood or off to the clink. The listener is to guess as to what happens next and what came before.Pulp Noir is more about a small slice or life, a moment in time, and usually a dark one. So please enjoy. Pour yourself a nice warm drink, dim the lights...conjure up in your consciousness; Femme Fatales, handguns, seedy bars, bad luck, thieves, scoundrels, a book of matches, a pack of Pall Mall's, low lighting, and definitely everything in glorious black and white. ungekürzt. A fascinating look at the history and development of the revolver. Highly detailed and informative, Percussion Revolvers explores the advent, development, and use of precartridge revolvers during the middle years of the nineteenth century. The percussion revolver emerged in the 1830s and remained state-of-the-art until metallic cartridge revolvers came into common use in the mid-1870s. Through the use of modern replicas, shooting enthusiasts Mike Cumpston and Johnny Bates investigate the capacities and limitations of the original revolvers, providing insight into their accuracy, utility, and ballistic performance. Chapters include: Replicas: The Good, the Bad, and the Awful Early Revolvers, 1836-47: The Paterson and the Walker Colts The Dragoons Colt Revolvers of Midcentury: The Pocket and Navy Models Holsters, Belts, and Sashes The Later Years: The Last of the Colt Percussion Designs A Hail of Lead: The Confederate LeMat Bates and Cumpston discuss the development of the precartridge arms, placing them in their proper historic context. They also take a look at modern replicas, including detailed information on selection, maintenance, and shooting, while delving into both the positive and negative realities that can be encountered when using these firearms. A valuable reference for students, fiction writers, and active shooters, Percussion Revolvers is an in-depth and comprehensive exploration of caplock handguns and their modern replicas.

For the first time in 70 years, the Court heard a case regarding the central meaning of the Second Amendment and its relation to gun control laws. After the District of Columbia passed legislation barring the registration of handguns, requiring licenses for all pistols, and mandating that all legal firearms must be kept unloaded and disassembled or trigger locked, a group of private gun-owners brought suit claiming the laws violated their Second Amendment right to bear arms. The federal trial court in Washington D.C. refused to grant the plaintiffs relief, holding that the Second Amendment applies only to militias, such as the National Guard, and not to private gun ownership. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit disagreed, voting two to one that the Second Amendment does in fact protect private gun owners such as plaintiffs. Petitioners agree with the trial court's decision that the Second Amendment applies only to militias, and further argue that (a) the Second Amendment should not apply to D.C. because it is a federal enclave rather than a state, and (b) that the D.C. legislation merely regulates, rather than prohibits, gun ownership. Respondents, although disagreeing on the merits, have also urged the Court to review the case in order to clearly define the relationship between federal gun control laws and the Second Amendment. Audie Award, Original Work, 2013 Kip Weiler is a self-destructive, washed-up, middle-aged professor. Once a superstar of the literary set, he has bottomed out after years of drinking and not writing anything worth a damn. As the novel begins, he’s teaching classes at a small, rural community college. Kip's talent, money, and chances have just about run out, when he rescues a classroom full of his students from a deranged student gunman who opens fire and takes the class hostage. As a result of the subsequent media attention, Kip gets an invitation to join a bizarre club-cult with members who have a near-religious fascination with handguns. His involvement with this group - and a simultaneous fling with a "spectacular" and sexually adventurous student of his named Renee - rekindles his passion and his creative-writing energy. But just when his muse returns, Kip Weiler’s life takes an even more insane and deadly turn. Kip begins to write a new novel called Gun Church, and things begin to happen in the real world that parallel his novel in progress. By mid-book it’s impossible to know where the art stops and the life or, in some cases, death begins. Can the very thing that gave Kip back his life take it so quickly away? ungekürzt.
