Zwischen Zappa und Intuition: das Berliner Jazz-Trio mit seinem zweiten Album. Johnny La Marama ist kein Gangster aus einem Groschenroman, sondern eine ganz reale Jazzband aus Berlin. Der finnische Gitarrist Kalle Kalima, der New Yorker Bassist Chris Dahlgren und der deutsche Schlagzeuger Eric Schaefer tragen aus drei Himmelsrichtungen Dutzende von musikalischen Vorlieben und Erfahrungen zusammen. Johnny La Marama verstehen sich als eine Band, in der es viel Spontanes, aber wenig Zufälliges gibt. Auf ihrer zweiten CD "... Fire!" klingen sie trotz aller Offenheit doch so dicht und geschlossen, dass man bestimmte musikalische Details schwer einem bestimmten Initiator zuschreiben kann. Johnny La Marama ist kein Trio im klassischen Sinne, sondern ein intuitives Ganzes. "Wir ziehen alle an einem Strang, der zwischen Post Rock, Groove, Neuer Musik und Zappa aufgehängt ist", so Drummer Eric Schaefer. Trotz des Bekenntnisses zu Zappa ist die Übereinstimmung des Albumtitels mit dem eines Bootlegs des Meisters reiner Zufall.
