As Caddi's killers rampage through Orchard Close, the usual defenders are helpless, but unlikely heroes make their own stand. A huge bribe buys medicine and treatment at Beth's, but that won't save those too badly hurt to move. The pyres hold a third of Orchard Close's residents. Many are badly injured, and the General is still out there. Despite the damage, refugees still arrive, some of them providing a ray of hope. In death, Caddi gifts the injured a chance at life, but only if the bad girls on the block agree. While eight gangs clash, Harold tries once again to save his love.Elsewhere, the Zoo has a chance to gain allies, but to do so, the members must risk meeting Conan and his Barbarians. Events around Orchard Close give Sutton Park a respite, while Prof and the SIMS test their new weapons against the Borg. The Cabal launch their final armored drive to destroy the Reivers, followed by the Specials to process any captives. At the other end of the country, Londoners plan for the day the armor comes for them. The General is gathering allies, desperate to hit Orchard Close before their wounded can recover. He builds the biggest army seen in the city - nearly a thousand armed men from eight gangs, all determined to crush Orchard Close. The Barbies and GOFS are neutralized, rockets tear holes in the walls, and a saboteur strikes inside Orchard Close, but a depleted Riot Squad step up to face the horde. What Is Smudging: A Beginner's Guide to the Essentials , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 65min
Smudging has been used in many different circles for thousands of years. It is not only a tool to remove bad energies and negative harmony from places that are important to you; it can also be used as part of your spiritual self-development practices on a regular basis. Smudging helps to connect and enhance your spiritual bonds and improves your psychic connection to your goddess, inner counselor, higher self, God, or whatever you choose to call that hidden, helpful force of goodness. Smudging is based on positive intention as well as harnessing the spiritual forces for whatever purpose you need, whether that is attracting abundance into your life or help with getting a promotion or a new job. It can even help you to attract a new mate, friend, or companion into your life, making you feel more fulfilled and happy than you thought you could be. Some negative vibrations in an area, whether that is home or some other personal space, can have very detrimental effects on a person's mental health. Whether those negative vibes are caused by a bad relationship or arguments or are residue from previous occupants of a house (yes, that can happen, which is why you should always carry out a smudging ceremony in your home when you move into it), they can be removed or neutralized with the help of smudging. Smudging is not a static ritual; rather it is a ceremonial blessing that evolves with you. You don't need to be an expert in Native American lore or even overly spiritual. Just having a positive desire and natural humility is enough. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Yvonne L. Wright. Acid Reflux Diet Cookbook: The Diet Plan for Acid Reflux. How to Heal and Prevent GERD and LPR, 28-Day Meal Plan with Easy and Delicious Low-Acid Recipes. Including Vegan, Alkaline, and Gluten-Free , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 190min
Acid reflux is a very common disorder, affecting millions of people in the United States alone. Its effects can wreak havoc on your life, causing pain, discomfort, inability to sleep, and mental distress. It takes a huge toll on your quality of life. It can make it difficult for you to find foods to eat that do not trigger an episode. You may pop antacids like candy, with little or no relief, only to find your condition getting worse over time.If that weren’t enough, over the long term, it can lead to serious complications, including difficulty swallowing, gastrointestinal bleeding, and even a certain type of esophageal cancer that only occurs in people with GERD.The problem with traditional medicine is that while it addresses the symptoms of acid reflux, it does not address the cause. In fact, modern-day medications do more harm than good. How can this be?It is because medicine has presupposed that acid reflux must be due to an excess of acid in the stomach. This is not the case, at all! One of the main reasons for acid indigestion is actually that the stomach does not have enough natural secretion of the digestive enzyme hydrochloric acid (HCl).Yes, it is not a problem of too much acid, but too little. This happens because of the chemicals in the foods we eat, and the medications we take. These foods sit in our stomachs undigested and after a while begin to ferment and produce their own acids.Using antacid medications worsens the problem. Antacids neutralize stomach acid. Without the proper secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, harmful bacteria, fungi, and parasites can survive and thrive. This can lead to leaky gut, irritable bowel syndrome, food allergies and intolerance, yeast infection (candidiasis), and even worsening of acid reflux. So, instead of curing the problem, we create another problem. The stomach produces additional acids to replenish those that have been neutralized - this is called the ac ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Kathryn Moore. Drone Warrior: An Elite Soldier's Inside Account of the Hunt for America's Most Dangerous Enemies , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 503min
A former Delta Force black ops member takes us inside America's covert drone war in this headline-making, never-before-told account for fans of Zero Dark Thirty and Lone Survivor, told by a Pulitzer Prize-winning Wall Street Journal writer and filled with eye-opening and sure to be controversial details. For nearly a decade, Brett Velicovich was at the center of America's new warfare: using unmanned aerial vehicles - drones - to take down the world's deadliest terrorists across the globe. One of an elite handful in the entire military with the authority to select targets and issue death orders, he worked in concert with the full human and technological network of American intelligence - assets, analysts, spies, informants - and the military's elite operatives to stalk, capture, and eliminate high-value targets in al-Qaeda and ISIS. In this remarkable book, cowritten with journalist Christopher S. Stewart, Velicovich offers unprecedented perspective on the remarkably complex nature of drone operations and the rigorous and wrenching decisions behind them. In intimate, gripping detail, he shares action-packed insider stories of the most coordinated, advanced, and secret missions that neutralized terrorists, preserved the lives of US and international warriors across the globe, and saved countless innocents in the hottest conflict zones today. Drone Warrior also chronicles the US military's evolution in the past decade and the technology driving it. Velicovich considers the future it foretells and speaks candidly on the physical and psychological toll it exacts, including the impact on his own life. He reminds us that while these machines can kill, they can also be used productively to improve and preserve life, including protecting endangered species, work he is engaged in today. Joining warfare classics such as American Sniper, Lone Survivor, and No Easy Day, Drone Warrior is th ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Brett Velicovich, Roger Wayne. Back in Action: An American Soldier's Story of Courage, Faith, and Fortitude , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 402min
This is the inspiring true story of the first amputee to return to active combat in Iraq. They put a price on his head. They did everything they could to disrupt his mission. Finally, when an antitank mine tore off his right foot, the warriors of jihad in Iraq thought they had neutralized one of their most resourceful, determined foes. They were wrong. Refusing to let his injury stop him, Captain David Rozelle roared back into action, returning to Iraq as commander of an armored cavalry troop. He became the first amputee in recent military history to resume a dangerous command on the same battlefield. In Back in Action: An American Soldier's Story of Courage, Faith, and Fortitude, Rozelle tells the whole gripping story: from the day he had to tell his pregnant wife that he was going to war (Valentine's Day, 2003) and deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom, to the fateful day four months later when a land mine tore off his right foot, and then through months of agonizing rehabilitation to his final triumphant recertification as "fit for duty". Rozelle, who has been awarded the Bronze Star with Valor and the Purple Heart, speaks with brisk frankness about his post-amputation battles and the gritty determination that carried him through it all. He recounts his inspiring battle through rehabilitation, as he learned to walk with a prosthetic foot and did his utmost to prove he still had the stuff to be a soldier: completing five sprint-distance triathlons, an Olympic-distance triathlon, the New York City Marathon, and skiing, snowboarding, and mountain climbing through Disabled Sports USA. Back in Action is an astonishing story of courage, determination, heroism, and bedrock patriotism. It is a stirring reminder of the commitment every American should have to the cause of freedom, if we hope to continue to enjoy that freedom. It's an extraordinary and inspiring story of devotion to duty overcoming all obstacles. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Patrick Lawlor. Northwest Corner: A Novel , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 450min
The New York Times Book Review called Reservation Road “a triumph”, and the novel was universally acclaimed. Now, in a brilliant literary performance by one of our most compelling and compassionate writers, John Burnham Schwartz reintroduces us to Reservation Road’s unforgettable characters in a superb new work of fiction that stands magnificently on its own. Northwest Corner is a riveting story about the complex, fierce, ultimately inspiring resilience of families in the face of life’s most difficult and unexpected challenges. Twelve years after a tragic accident and a cover-up that led to prison time, Dwight Arno, now 50, is a man who has started over without exactly moving on. Living alone in California, haunted yet keeping his head down, Dwight manages a sporting-goods store and dates a woman to whom he hasn’t revealed the truth about his past. Then an unexpected arrival throws his carefully neutralized life into turmoil and exposes all that he’s hidden. Sam, Dwight’s estranged college-age son, has shown up without warning, fleeing a devastating incident in his own life. In its way, Sam’s sense of guilt is as crushing as his father’s. As the two men are forced to confront their similar natures and their half-buried hopes for connection, they must also search for redemption and love. In turn, they dramatically transform the lives of the women around them: the ex-wives, mothers, and lovers they have turned to in their desperate attempts to somehow rewrite, outrun, or eradicate the past. Told in the resonant voices of everyday people gripped in the emotional riptide of lived life, Northwest Corner is at once tough and heart-lifting, an urgent, powerful story about family bonds that can never be broken and the wayward roads that lead us back to those we love. ungekürzt. Midnight in the Pacific: Guadalcanal -- The World War II Battle That Turned the Tide of War , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 975min
A sweeping narrative history - the first in over 20 years - of America's first major offensive of World War II, the brutal, no-quarter-given campaign to take Japanese-occupied Guadalcanal. From early August until mid-November of 1942, US marines, sailors, and pilots struggled for dominance against an implacable enemy: Japanese soldiers, inculcated with the bushido tradition of death before dishonor, avatars of bayonet combat - close-up, personal, and gruesome. The glittering prize was Henderson Airfield. Japanese planners knew that if they neutralized the airfield, the battle was won. So did the marines who stubbornly defended it. The outcome of the long slugfest remained in doubt under the pressure of repeated Japanese air, land, and sea operations. And losses were heavy. At sea, in a half-dozen fiery combats, the US Navy fought the Imperial Japanese Navy to a draw, but at a cost of more than 4,500 sailors. More American sailors died in these battles off Guadalcanal than in all previous US wars, and each side lost 24 warships. On land, more than 1,500 soldiers and marines died, and the air war claimed more than 500 US planes. Japan's losses on the island were equally devastating - starving Japanese soldiers called it "the island of death". But when the attritional struggle ended, American marines, sailors, and airmen had halted the Japanese juggernaut that for five years had whirled through Asia and the Pacific. Guadalcanal was America's first major ground victory against Japan and, most importantly, the Pacific War's turning point. Published on the 75th anniversary of the battle and utilizing vivid accounts written by the combatants at Guadalcanal, along with marine corps and army archives and oral histories, Midnight in the Pacific is both a sweeping narrative and a compelling drama of individual marines, soldiers, and sailors caught in the crosshairs of history. The Six Day War: The History and Legacy of the 1967 Arab-Israeli War and Its Impact on the Middle East , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 111min
In early June 1967, the Israelis captured Jordanian intelligence that indicated an invasion was imminent, and at 08h10 on June 5, 1967, the Israel Broadcasting Authority aired an Israeli Defense Force communique. "Since the early hours of this morning", it read, "heavy fighting has been taking place on the southern front between Egyptian armored and aerial forces, which moved against Israel, and our forces, which went into action to check them." This was followed up a little over two hours later by a publicly aired message to the armed forces of Israel, released by Israeli Minister of Defense Moshi Dayan in his first day in office. "We have no aims of conquest", was Dayan's simple message. "Our only aim is to frustrate the attempt of the Arab armies to conquer our country, and to sever and crush the ring of blockade and aggression which has been created around us." By then, the Israeli Air Force had been in action over the skies of Egypt since 07h45 that morning, and as a consequence, almost the entire Egyptian Air Force lay smoldering on the tarmacs of various forward Egyptian airbases. Having neutralized Egypt’s air strike potential in a matter of hours, the IAF then began to turn its attention to Jordan, Iraq, and Syria, as IDF ground forces, back in the Sinai, moved in to take care of the more punishing business of destroying Egyptian ground forces. Over the next six days, the Israelis overwhelmed the Egyptians in the west, destroying thousands of tanks and capturing the Gaza Strip and the entire Sinai Peninsula. At the same time, Israel drove the Jordanians out of Jerusalem and the West Bank, and it captured the Golan Heights from Syria near the border of Lebanon. In the span of a week, Israel had tripled the size of the lands it controlled. Israel had gone from less than 10 miles wide in some spots to over 200 miles wide from the Sinai Peninsula to the West Bank. Israel also unified Jerusalem. The results of the Six Day War c ungekürzt.
