Die Liturgiewissenschaft steht als theologische Disziplin vor besonderen Herausforderungen. Sie hat in der Konzils- und Nachkonzilszeit ihre spezifische Ausformung erfahren, die lange Zeit prägend war. Aber Kirche, Liturgie sowie das weitere Umfeld haben sich stark verändert: In sechs Jahrzehnten sind die Weisen, in denen der christliche Glaube gelebt und gefeiert wird, vielfältiger geworden. Neben die Pfarrgemeinde sind eine Fülle anderer Orte des Gottesdienstes und des Gebets getreten - stabilere, aber auch zeitgebundenere. Für ihre Gestaltung spielen teilweise ökumenische Aspekte eine Rolle und die Beziehungen zu anderen Religionen, ebenso die Einbettung in das gesellschaftlich-kulturelle Umfeld, das mittlerweile eine Vielzahl anderer Rituale kennt.- Damit stellen sich Fragen rund um die Liturgiefähigkeit des Menschen und die Menschenfähigkeit der Liturgie anders und neu.
