Something feels missing. You know there's something more for you, but you can't say exactly what. There's a calling deep down that seems to tug at your soul. That's the universe speaking to you.In Shine: A Simple Guide to Finding Your Light and Letting It Shine on the World, you will finally learn how to hear that message, discover your true self, and understand what the universe has wanted you to know your whole life. The remarkable opening preface describing how Shine was written or, more accurately, spiritually directed through first-time author Mary Obana is reason alone to listen to this audiobook. Narrated by the author herself, Shine details her real-life transformation from her "normal" life before, to learning how to connect to her "higher self" and to live a whole new, more joyful life today as the person she was always meant to be.The real story in Shine, though, is not about the author's experience; it's about the simple but profoundly touching message it has for everyone who is ready to hear it. This is not another self-help book trying to help you change what you do or help you become something you are not. Instead, Shine will help you see who you really are, understand how loved you have always been, and learn how to start living joyfully as your true, authentic self.Though packed with profound insights and practical guidance that you can start benefiting from immediately, Shine is most definitely a feel-good book. It's an easy, enjoyable read that will leave you reassured and rejuvenated. Best of all, it will leave you knowing your purpose, your why...your light, so you can let it shine brightly on the world. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Mary Obana. An extraordinary work of history and original reporting that reveals the ways in which presidential marriages have affected the tone, character, and policies of 12 administrations, from Woodrow and Edith Wilson to George W. and Laura Bush. Each of the marriages that Kati Marton examines in this hugely appealing book offers up its own unexpected lessons about power and marriage, about the influence of presidential wives, and about the evolution of women's roles in the 20th century. Based on private White House documents and on interviews with the participants and with eyewitnesses to presidential events, Hidden Power explores how both the personal dynamics and public faces of White House marriages have shaped our history. We see Edith Wilson literally running the government when her deeply beloved husband becomes ill; how the combination of Franklin Roosevelt's reassuring spirit and his wife's humility guided the country through Depression and war; how Bess Truman's loyalty, bluntness, and unpretentiousness were some of her husband's greatest resources; and the superb and necessary diplomacy of Jacqueline Kennedy. We observe Lady Bird Johnson retaining her own compass in the face of massive criticism of her husband; how Patricia Nixon's estrangement from her husband fed his paranoia; how the Fords reassured us after the debacles of Vietnam and Watergate; Rosalynn Carter's struggle to carve out new territory as first lady; the generally constructive role Nancy Reagan played, despite her frivolous reputation; the razor-sharp political instincts behind Barbara Bush's grandmotherly image; how Hillary Clinton saved her husband's presidency; and how Laura Bush provides emotional ballast for her husband. Here are the stories of the ultimate power couples - each one very different, but all of them informative, lively, and absolutely fascinating. Language: English. Narrator: Jane Alexander. In December of 2010, the rarest of celestial events occurred, a total eclipse of the moon on Winter Solstice.  The Longest, Darkest Night! tells the story of that night; the magic and mystery, through the eyes and voices of a community of nocturnal forest animals. The wonders of nature, celestial cycles, and the “humanness” of animals are part of this modern folktale. Fear of the unknown, collaboration, generosity, and the wisdom of the elders are underlying themes. Original music and sound effects accompany the narrator and small cast, as the story unfolds and our forest community gathers to celebrate Winter Solstice, which is interrupted by a Lunar eclipse. At first, the moon appears to have a bite taken out, over time she goes completely dark. The trees loose their moon-shadows altogether. What is going to happen? The moon turns orange, then red. Everyone is scared. Clues to the story are nicely snuggled into the enchanting illustrations. Finally, nearly overcome by fear, the animals hear the wind-whispers of Grandfather Cedar and they are reassured. As they share this magical moment, the animals begin singing the Song of Solstice, YOU can sing along!! Together we all look forward to brighter days ahead. In the end, the critters remind themselves, “Things usually go better when we listen to our elders. Their wisdom is our strength.”  Target audience: The Longest, Darkest Night is for preschoolers through third graders. The peer-reviewed book also fits into early elementary school STEM and STREAM curriculum in science.PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.  ungekürzt. William Tecumseh Sherman (February 8, 1820-February 14, 1891) holds a unique position in American history. Synonymous with barbarity in the South, Sherman is lauded as a war hero in the North, and modern historians consider him the harbinger of total war. As a General in the Union Army during the American Civil War (1861-65), Sherman was recognized for his outstanding command of military strategy but criticized for the harshness of the "scorched earth" policies that he implemented in conducting total war against the Confederate States, especially in 1864 and 1865. Military historian BH Liddell Hart famously declared that Sherman was "the first modern general". Sherman spent a majority of the war out west, although it is often forgotten that he was a brigade commander at the First Battle of Bull Run, and that the Civil War actually finished with General Joseph E. Johnston surrendering to Sherman weeks after Appomattox. By 1865, Sherman was the second most popular general in the North behind Grant, and history has accorded him a strong Civil War legacy. Nevertheless, Sherman remains controversial across much of the United States today. He was unquestionably instrumental at battles like Shiloh, his victory in the Atlanta Campaign reassured Lincoln's reelection, and his March to the Sea revolutionized total warfare. At the same time, the South considered him akin to a terrorist, violating the norms of warfare by targeting civilians, and accuse him of needlessly burning Atlanta and Columbia. In many ways, Sherman is still the scourge of the South, nearly 150 years after he vowed to make Georgia howl. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Colin Fluxman. Scarlett stared at the sign staked in the grass at the side of the highway. "Paradise Peak, population 1100", it read; a sign she hadn’t seen since her family had passed it on their way out. It was the same sign though, rickety and worn. It was a wonder the rotting legs hadn’t given out years ago. This was it. Just a few more minutes and she would be home. At the moment though, the idea of coming home seemed more daunting than comforting. Not for the first time on her 1100-mile trek up the west coast, she wondered what the hell she was doing. This had seemed like a good idea six months ago in California. Now though, she couldn’t help but wonder if she’d gone just a smidge - or off-her-rocker - crazy. But it wasn’t crazy, she reassured herself. The oversized, glass-walled monstrosity her family had moved to in California had never felt much like home. Hell, she’d needed to use the intercom to call to the opposite side of the house. No, the quaint, ranch-style house she’d grown up in...that was home. Of course, home was situated in a place where everyone knew absolutely everything there is to know about...well...everyone. So, if she thought she could keep her homecoming quiet, she really was losing her marbles. Realizing she’d slowed to a crawl’s pace, she forced her foot down on the pedal. It was too late to change her mind now. Besides, it was entirely possible nobody would recognize her and she’d at least make it through the day before the Paradise Peak Gazette’s only reporter was banging down her door....Warning: This book contains sexual content. 18 years and up only! ungekürzt. From the number one New York Times bestselling author comes another stunning memoir that is tender, touching...and just a little spooky. "Here's a partial list of things I don't believe in: God. The Devil. Heaven. Hell. Bigfoot. Ancient Aliens. Past lives. Life after death. Vampires. Zombies. Reiki. Homeopathy. Rolfing. Reflexology. Note that 'witches' and 'witchcraft' are absent from this list. The thing is, I wouldn't believe in them, and I would privately ridicule any idiot who did, except for one thing: I am a witch." For as long as Augusten Burroughs could remember, he knew things he shouldn't have known. He manifested things that shouldn't have come to pass. And he told exactly no one about this, save one person: his mother. His mother reassured him that it was all perfectly normal, that he was descended from a long line of witches, going back to the days of the early American colonies. And that this family tree was filled with witches. It was a bond that he and his mother shared--until the day she left him in the care of her psychiatrist to be raised in his family (but that's a whole other story). After that, Augusten was on his own. On his own to navigate the world of this tricky power; on his own to either use or misuse this gift. From the hilarious to the terrifying, Toil & Trouble is a chronicle of one man's journey to understand himself, to reconcile the powers he can wield with things with which he is helpless. There are very few things that are coincidences, as you will learn in Toil & Trouble. Ghosts are real, trees can want to kill you, beavers are the spawn of Satan, houses are alive, and in the end, love is the most powerful magic of all.

Stories and fairy tales have always been fundamental tools to pass on knowledge, traditions, and life teachings from old generations to new ones. Our life is brimming with tales whose fundamental characters date back to the very beginnings of the history of humankind. With the passing of the centuries, characters and stories have undergone changes and variations according to geographical location and historical contexts; however, the structure of each fairy tale includes fundamental and immutable elements:A heroAn anti-heroA challengeAn educational endFrom Aesop’s fables to the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, the common thread always touches these fundamental elements. Even contemporary fables cannot do without them, despite the fact that they appear completely different from the tales of the past.In addition to their educational and didactic value, nowadays, fables and fairy tales have also been enriched by the fundamental value of sharing and participation in the family. The sharing of tales in the family suspends time and tells of characters and stories that are always current and that unite children and adults in the evolution of the adventures of all the characters.Bedtime stories also guarantee moments of intimacy and sharing within the family. Moments of fundamental importance that will remain forever impressed in the memories of each child with all the tenderness and genuineness possible.Indeed, it is in the evening, just before going to sleep, that the little ones process what happened to them during the day and often need to be reassured. Through fables and tales, mum and dad can bring comfort and courage to their little ones without tackling the subject that causes stress head-on and, at the same time, offer the best tools to overcome the small difficulties of everyday life successfully. These stories will help the family to:Share precious moments ungekürzt. A number of years ago, something incredible, an amazing coincidence, happened that started Doctor Warrick Bishop on the mission to prevent heart attacks rather than try to cure them. He was driving to work one day when he stopped at a commotion by the side of the road. A fun runner had collapsed with a heart attack during a fun run. He helped in his resuscitation only to find out he had seen the very same man two years earlier and reassured him he was fine.  Warrick had missed the chance to make a difference and it nearly cost a life! Based on risk calculation and the best practice of the time, he shouldn't have been at high risk...but he was!  This started him on a journey, which meant he was open to looking more closely at new and emerging technology to help in being more precise about the risk of heart attack.  What if we could plan not to have a heart attack?  Heart attack is a layman’s term referring to a narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries that can kill or require some form of medical intervention such as medication, time in a hospital, balloons or stents, or coronary-artery-bypass grafting.  As a cardiologist, I have not yet met a patient who expected to have a problem; patients do not put into their diaries, “Possible problem with my heart next week”. Yet, what if we could be forewarned about, or prepared for, a potential problem with our coronary arteries?  What if we were able to put in place preventative measures that may avert a problem? What if we were able to take away the surprise of a heart attack occurring "out of the blue" and replace possible fear with prepared understanding? ungekürzt. Language: English.
