You are invited to a ball given by Lord Semichastny at his estate on Delbalso. Be prepared for: The Great Trog Chase, a marvel of bureaucratic befuddlement compounded by the appearance of an imposter rivaling Torve himself for Troggish charm, though not unpredictability; The winders of Peelgrunt at Xenakis' Centre (the only place on Delbalso even mentioned by Wu and Fabricant); A family of bourgeois con-artists keeping up appearances as interstellar rug salesmen; The first intimations of the Universal Pantograph; The Last Christian; and The Monist Association's Xochitl Sodality Night (who says middle-aged men are too old for green hats with feathers?), culminating in a citywide game of Wonders and Marvels well worth donning a mask to attend! ungekürzt. In the bizarre world of Franz Kafka, salesmen turn into giant bugs, apes give lectures at college academies, and nightmares probe the mysteries of modern humanity’s unhappiness. More than any other modern writer in world literature, Kafka captures the loneliness and misery that fill the lives of 20th-century humanity. The Metamorphosis and Other Stories reveals the author’s extraordinary talent in a variety of forms—prose poems, short stories, sketches, allegories, and novelettes—and showcases the straight–faced humor, startling psychological insight, and haunting imagination for which he is revered as a modern master. In this brilliant new translation, prize–winning translator Joachim Neugroschel preserves the delicate balance, rich timbre, and wondrous language of Kafka’s original works. In addition to "The Metamorphosis", this collection includes "Early Stories", "Contemplation", "The Judgement", "The Stoker", "In the Penal Colony", and "A Country Doctor". ungekürzt. Irreverent, charming, and eminently quotable, this handbook - an eccentric etiquette guide for the human race - contains 69 aphorisms, anecdotes, whimsical suggestions, maxims, and cautionary tales from Mark Twain’s private and published writings. It dispenses advice and reflections on family life and public manners; opinions on topics such as dress, health, food, and childrearing and safety; and more specialized tips, such as those for dealing with annoying salesmen and burglars. Culled from Twain’s personal letters, autobiographical writings, speeches, novels, and sketches, these pieces are delightfully fresh, witty, startlingly relevant, and bursting with Twain’s characteristic ebullience for life. They also remind us exactly how Mark Twain came to be the most distinctive and well-known American literary voice in the world. These texts, some of them new or out of print for decades, have been selected and meticulously prepared by the editors at the Mark Twain Project. ungekürzt. Language: English. The title really says it: Sometimes You Need to Laugh II. This is a collection of jokes and stories assembled from 37 years of getting jokes told to me or encountering them on the internet. It is ideal for salesmen, public speakers, masters of ceremonies, or just breaking the ice. Many of these jokes and stories have sexual innuendo, and they are not politically correct. There is over 13 1/2 hours of jokes and funny stories to entertain you. You will love some of them. This is the second book like this. I have opened it up so that people can submit jokes and have their name in print. Due to the nature of the jokes sometimes it is only the first name and the initial of the last name. With a constant stream of jokes, this may be a self-perpetuating series. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Paul Christy, Anne-Lise Fishman. Early postcards and photographs reveal the begininngs of rail travel in Ohio, and the rail depots and buildings that served the passengers and their goods. The first rail lines in northeast Ohio opened for business in July 1850, and by the 1890s, northeast Ohio was laced with railroad tracks. Cleveland was the hub of railroad activity, and important rail-served lake ports developed at Ashtabula, Conneaut, Fairport Harbor, Huron, and Lorain. Akron became a center of southerly east-west lines. Over 310 passenger and combination depots were established at various points along the railroads to serve the needs of passengers traveling throughout northeast Ohio. Depots were the focal point of communities--news arrived over their telegraphs, traveling salesmen gathered on the trackside platforms, depot staff maneuvered four-wheel wagons loaded with baggage, parcels, and milk cans, locals gathered to meet, greet, and send off family and friends. The depot was a veritable beehive of activity at train time. Railroad Depots of Northeast Ohio offers a glimpse into these golden years of train travel through the use of early postcards and photographs of selected depots and related structures.

Success means something different for everyone. For Bill Rancic, it meant taking the things he loved, like coming up with exciting ideas and never working a 9-to-5 job, and translating that into a profitable business. By the time he was thirty, he'd achieved every goal he set for himself by creating an online cigar company from scratch and then using those profits to begin a venture in real estate. Then an opportunity came by he just couldn't pass up, a competition to test his own personal drive and street smarts against a talented pool of professional salesmen, marketers, and MBAs, where the prize was working side by side with the master of the deal himself, Donald Trump.Being on The Apprentice made Bill Rancic an overnight celebrity. But his winning strategies were developed long before that, and in You're Hired, he uses examples from his own life to prove that the secrets of success can be found within us all. ungekürzt.
