Snake Davis is often referred to as the UK's leading saxophonists, playing alto, soprano, baritone and tenor saxes, flutes, whistle and shakuhachi. Snake has found his own style, which has resulted in a number of young up and coming saxophonists using him as their modern day role model. His greatest influences have been King Curtis and the Brecker Brothers. He was brought up with Motown classics and soul music - all which have helped influenced the sound so many people recognize as "Snake Davis" . The press sometimes find it hard to slot him into a set genre, but that's partly why so many people love his music, it is soul, funk, world jazz. On stage, Snake has a natural ability to tailor his music to suit the occasion, be it an intimate theatre setting, after dinner jazz or open air concerts. The most amazing thing to see is how people of all ages enjoy his music. Snake's repertoire is wide and varied. The band play a mix of original compositions, soul funk jazz and pop covers. Hysteria - Snake Davis by Jazz Lynx - Cafe Radio Jazz Snake has enjoyed a lengthy career as one the premier saxmen in the UK. He's appeared with all the big names and for the past few years he's been a guest on a more or less permanent basis with Paul Hardcastle & The Jazzmasters. In addition Snake has enjoyed a substantial solo career with 3 releases to his credit. Hysteria released in 2003 is his most recent effort of new material. Although the album is already a couple of years old, it just made it's way to this side of the water! In spite of this fact, we're breaking our own rules and made it eligible for our FT feature!! A breach in protocol perhaps but I think we come off looking rather good on this one!! A rather excellent release, I could have chosen any one of several selections for our feature. Still, there is one track that, at least for me, stood out and said 'play me!' and we have it for you on this show. And although we're generally not partial to covers, I'm making yet another exception. From Hysteria we'll hear Snake's take on The Hustle, the Van McCoy hit from '75 !!

In The Nutcracker Mood It's over a half century since the immortal Glenn Miller disappeared just before Christmas on December 15, 1944. His Orchestra, in the too-short run under his personal leadership, had officially recorded only one Christmas song ("Jingle Bells", October 20, 1941). Dedicated fans around the world are certain that, had he lived through World War II, he would have recorded a complete album of the best-loved music of the holiday season. This recording is the third produced by this outstanding group of professional musicians, all contributing to the continuation of the Glenn Miller tradition and the joy of the music heard during the Christmas season year after year, all around the world. Once again...the "sound" and the "swing" of the Glenn Miller sound of the Forties...the songs and holiday joys of Christmas...another celebration by dedicated alumni of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. The first recording, "In The Christmas Mood", was released in 1991. It was so successful that a second recording, "In The Christmas Mood II,' was produced and later released in 1993. By the close of the Christmas season of 1996, "In The Christmas Mood," received a Platinum Record Award (sales exceeded 1,000,000 units) and "In The Christmas Mood II," received a Gold Record Award (sales exceeded 500,000 units). For the first recording, a list of desirable players was compiled. There were a few requisites -- musicians had to be working currently, only alumni of the Glenn Miller Orchestra would be recruited, each individual had to have recognized and outstanding talent, each veteran had to be able to take a leave-of-absence from his current "gig", and, of course, be available to come to New York City to record. The reaction from each and every alumnus called was immediate, "Of course! Count me in. When? Where?" So they came from Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, Nashville, Pittsburgh, Michigan, Florida, Rochester, Eastern Pennsylvania, and Sydney, Australia to join the players already in New York City. Almost all of the musicians performing on all three of these recordings, are the same. The only differences are the pianist for the first recording, and trombonist, Larry O'Brien, the then leader of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, was unable to make the second recording due to being on tour. Larry is noticeably back on this recording as evidenced by his beautiful trombone solo on Toyland. The average age of this band is about 50. The length of time each player performed with the Glenn Miller Orchestra ranges from as little as 6 months to well over 10 years. The cumulative experience of this band recreating the authentic Miller "sound" is well over 100 years! What is their motivation? Dedication? Commitment? Familiarity? Feeling? Lasting enthusiasm? Wish fulfillment? A reunion of great music with great musicians who are all friends? A celebration of the past and present? The answer is definitely "all of the above!". The quality of the music and musicianship on these recordings speaks for itself! Look at the repertoire here -- Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite plus many more Christmas standards, some of which were around when Glenn was still alive and other more recent compositions he might have recorded had he not been lost. IN THE NUTCRACKER MOOD -- Over 40 minutes of musical memories, of good cheer, of the most enduring "sound' of the Swing Era Big Bands arranged and performed by dedicated alumni of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. This is music that will live forever. Orchestral and vocal magnificence! Gratification! Enjoy! "Ryan Kauffman plays fluid, sure-footed lines on his saxes with a fine tone on each. The rhythm section is also solid, with pianist Matt Hochmiller revealing an interesting mainstream modern phraseology of his own. Drummer Chris Loser provides bright, crisp accompaniment while bassist Steve Meashey anchors the proceedings with a strong sound and a firm beat." -- Cadence Magazine Ryan Kauffman saxophone Matt Hochmiller piano Steve Meashey bass Chris Loser drums Three Little Words turned up recently when I was at the piano re-working a classic Cole Porter tune. Warm Air Rises is an older tune of mine that I revised for this session. I was going for an open, clear feeling on this one. Shenandoah is a tune I've always enjoyed singing. This is a simple arrangement that features beautiful playing from Steve, Matt and Chris. Dedicated to C. Yes Bossa is one of the first tunes I ever wrote. As I recall, I was fooling around on my father's guitar and listening to a lot of Joe Henderson, particularly the album Double Rainbow. Hoosier Daddy started out as an exercise that I wrote over the changes to the standard Indiana. Overlapping major triads combined with knotty lines create the effect of harmony that seems to slip and slide over the d minor vamp. To Ask is for an old friend. La Camba is loosely based on Antonio Carlos Jobim's Triste. Dedicado a Licet con mucho cariño. I would like to thank Matt, Steve, Chris and Marty for their heartfelt contributions to this project and for their dedication to the music.

KACIE EDWARDS BIO Kacie Edwards was born in the beautiful Bluegrass state of Kentucky, which still remains her home. Although, no other members of her family performed, Kacie was blessed with that divine spark that made her realize from her young age that she wanted to be a performer. She began singing at five years old, and by age 11, she started training in opera. It may be this early training that helped to develop her rangy voice and her ability to hold impossibly long notes. A fact that has had seasoned professionals step back in wonder. Kacie's early music influences show that eclectic taste that is still a part of her make up. Elvis Presley, Jim Reeves, Peggy Lee, Brenda Lee, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Jeanette MacDonald, Slim Whitman, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette. In her teenage years, she enjoyed the music of Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield and the Rolling Stones. Kacie first performed professionally in 1994. At the time, she was singing Country and Easy Rock. She came to the attention of Patty Loveless's manager, Ray Ferguson who introduced who some while later introduced her to industry veteran, Barry McCloud. He produced some sides on her but they both knew that Kacie's time had not yet arrived. It would take a few more years for that time to arrive. In 2010, the two teamed up again via the social network, Facebook and in the ensuing years, Kacie had grown from a talented amateur to a mind blowing professional. With this maturity came a musical development that embraced Blue-Eyed Soul, Power Pop and Jazz. Barry McCloud immediately signed her to both a management and production agreement with the full conviction that the entertainment world needed to hear and see Kacie Edwards. Kacie lists as her leisure activities, swimming and horseback riding. She also enjoys cooking and her chili is to die for. She is an animal lover and also enjoys painting statues. In 2000, Kacie Edwards rededicated her life and this gave her a more positive view on life. She holds a very humanist view of her fellow man and woman. "To me we are all equal. We are all created the same and we should treat each other with kindness and respect and wherever you can lend a helping hand you should do so." Her words are not hollow. In 2010, she recorded "The Gift of Christmas" to benefit the National Hemophilia Foundation. On hearing the single, people have been reduced to tears when they hear the sincerity in Kacie's voice as she appeals for understanding for those less fortunate. Kacie is now recording her debut album, "Act I" and Barry McCloud has gathered the cream of Nashville's session players who are thoroughly relishing playing on a non-Country CD. These include: Chris Leuzinger : Guitar (Formerly with Garth Brooks) Jim Kirby : Piano (Formerly with Roy Orbison) Andrea Zonn : Violin and Viola (Formerly with Vince Gill and James Taylor & Carole King) Jonathan Yudkin : Cello (Has played with Rascal Flatts, Shelby Lynne, Bon Jovi, Carrie Underwood, Jewel, Kelly Clarkson, Martina McBride, Taylor Swift and Faith Hill) John Catchings : Cello (Played with Randy Crawford, Faith Hill, Bob Seger, Jars of Clay, Amy Grant, Martina McBride, CeCe Winans, KT Tunstall, Kim Carnes, BackStreet Boys, Bon Jovi and Ben Folds) Jim Hoke : Tenor, Alto and Soprano Saxes and Flute (Played with, among many others, Bob Seger, Bonnie Raitt, Martina McBride, Alan Jackson, Mark Knopfler, Jimmy Buffett and Andy Williams) Steve Herrman : Flugelhorn and Trumpet (Played with Craig Morgan, Waylon Jennings, Kenny Chesney, Johnny Reid, Vince Gill and Brooks & Dunn) Mike Dunbar : Bass Guitar (Razzy Bailey) Pat McInerney : Drums (Formerly with Don Williams, Nanci Griffith and played with Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Doc Watson, Jerry Lee Lewis and Dolly Parton etc.) The Jordanaires (YES The Legendary Jordanaires) : Background Vocals David LeSigns and LeAnn Steinhauer: Background Vocals.
