After Silence
From the opening chords of 'Falling Further In' to the epic track 'After the Rain,' Jessica Weiser's new album AFTER SILENCE is a journey that demands attention. The album is the third release for Weiser, who originally hails from a small town outside of Indianapolis, IN. In addition to AFTER SILENCE, Weiser has released 2 independent EPs and her career sales now total over 3,500 albums sold independently. AFTER SILENCE was recorded with producer Paul Smith (Badlees, Darcie Miner Band, Breaking Benjamin) at Saturation Acres Studio in Danville, PA. The album, which features members of Pennsylvania rock band The Badlees, contains 10 powerful and engaging tracks. The album's subject matter ranges from songs detailing pain and loneliness ('Loneliness,' 'Vine,' 'Indifference') to social and political apathy ('Shut Our Eyes'), and features a Neil Young cover ('Distant Camera'). Also included is the compelling track 'After the Rain,' which begins with a 15-second montage of NPR clips detailing the emotionally charged days after openly gay college student Matthew Shepard's murder in Laramie, WY. The epic song is both narrative and haunting, with a powerful statement about hate crimes. The backbone of AFTER SILENCE is Weiser's soaring, sweet soprano voice, throught-provoking and introspective lyrics, and the song's arrangements. The album's sound is modern yet infused with classic rock-influenced electric guitar, lap steel, and Rhodes, acoustic drums, and full bass lines. The melodies are catchy enough to get caught in your head or sing along to, but deep enough to stir the soul. AFTER SILENCE has received critical acclaim, and prompted one reviewer to write: 'After Silence is an album that will take your breath away and leave you wanting more.' An engaging live performer, Weiser has shared the stage with Nettwerk Recording artist Tara MacLean, Taylor Barton and GE Smith (former Saturday Night Live band leader), as well as many prominent independent artists. Weiser has been on bills that have sold-out clubs in New York City (The Living Room, Bitter End, The C-Note) and Toronto (C'est What, Freetimes Cafe). In September, 2001 Weiser was one of 12 recipients (out of hundreds of entries) who received a B.E.A.M. Emerging Artist grant, and was selected by a panel of judges that included Pat DiNizio (Smithereens) and singer/songwriter Matthew Sweet. In 2002 Weiser's songs from AFTER SILENCE were picked up by XM Radio's Unsigned Channel, ABC affiliate WRTV 6's (Indianapolis) prime-time series Indie Scene, and her song 'Vine' was featured on the popular Indianapolis radio stations Z99.5 and WTTS (92.3 FM). Additionally Weiser has also been featured on several compilation albums which were distributed nationally. Weiser kicked off 2003 with an invite from Tina Shafer to participate in the NY Songwriter's Circle, where Vanessa Carlton, Norah Jones, Lisa Loeb, and countless others have performed. The event was standing-room only at the Bitter End. With a fiercely independent spirit and do-it-yourself motto, she follows in her hero Ani Difranco's footsteps--selling records without compromising her principles. She has funded all of her own albums (with help from the fans), currently handles all of her own booking, designs her website, albums, and promotional materials. Weiser spent early 2003 touring the Midwest and will begin recording her fourth independent album in 2005.- Shop: odax

The Naked Gun Trilogy
NAKED GUN: FROM THE FILES OF POLICE SQUAD!, THE: Those screw-loose Airplane! Creators have done it again! Leslie Nielsen stars as Police Squad's own granite-jawed, rock-brained cop Frank Drebin, who bumbles across a mind-control scheme to assassinate Queen Elizabeth. Priscilla Presley, O.J. Simpson, a stuffed beaver, two baseball teams and an odd assortment of others join the wacko goings-on and blow the laugh-o-meter to smithereens. NAKED GUN 2 1/2: THE SMELL OF FEAR, THE: Leslie Nielsen returns as the intrepid (and accident-prone) Lt. Frank Drebin in Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear, "un film de David Zucker." This second feature film from the "Police Squad!" series finds Drebin as a guest at a White House dinner, receiving an award for shooting his 1,000th drug dealer, although he admits to shooting only 998 - he ran over the last two in his car. ("Luckily, they turned out to be drug dealers"). Also at the White House dinner is energy czar Dr. Albert S. Meinheimer (Richard Griffiths), whom President George Bush (John Roarke) has chosen to start a new national energy policy. Since Meinheimer believes in promoting alternative energy resources, the evil leaders of the polluting energy industries (coal, oil, and nuclear power-or the lobby groups SMOKE, SPILL and KABOOM) are horrified at Bush's choice. Joining together with arch-villain Quentin Hapsburg (Robert Goulet), they plan to kidnap the real Meinheimer and substitute a fake Meinheimer in his place who will enact energy policy according to the dictates of the energy lobby. Drebin becomes deeply involved in the conspiracy when he runs into his ex-girl friend Jane (Priscilla Presley), who is not only Meinheimer's public relations director but also Hapsburg's current paramour. NAKED GUN 33 1/3: THE FINAL INSULT, THE: The further misadventures of bumbling Los Angeles police Lieutenant Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen) are chronicled in this third installment in the popular Naked Gun comedy series. Departures & Arrivals
I was the kid in 'Almost Famous,' dabbling in rock criticism in college and studying musical minutae but ultimately giving it up to find my own musical path. I've been writing songs and gigging since my SUNY Potsdam days in the late 1970s and early 1980s. I was raised on the Beatles, however, it was my discovery of Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen in the mid-1970s that fueled my desire to create music. Through them I learned that music could be more than entertainment, it could provide an avenue for expression and act as an agent of change. Bruce and Dylan also led me to other great artists. By tracing their influences, I found my way to Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, and Hank Williams. My style of music is either rock and roll with a twang or country with a rock-and-roll edge. It depends on the audience, the venue, or my mood at any given time. Many of my favorite songwriters hail from Texas. These include Steve Earle, Guy Clark, Nanci Griffith, and Townes Van Zandt. Other Other influences include John Hiatt, Nick Lowe, and Tom T. Hall. I have played in various Long Island bands since the mid-1980s, among them the Rockerfellers, the Lincolns, Roy Wilson's Honky Tonk Boys, and Good Dog Nigel (named after a particularly twisted John Lennon poem). I have recorded three CDs, 'Every Country Road . . . Every City Street,' 'Departures and Arrivals,' and the unreleased 'Nice Problem to Have.' My wife Linda and I live on Long Island with our thre cats Fonzie, Mookie, and Ella. Influences: My big four: Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley, and the Beatles. After that, in no particular order: John Fogerty, Neil Young, Chuck Berry, Rolling Stones, The Band, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Rockpile, Los Lobos, The Jayhawks, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Tom T. Hall, Buddy Holly, Joe Ely, Townes Van Zandt, Lyle Lovett, Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Nanci Griffith, The Mavericks, Tom Waits, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Dwight Yoakam, Gram Parsons, Woody Guthrie, Eagles, Rodney Crowell, Guy Clark, Everly Brothers, Roger Miller, George Strait, Eddie Cochran, Ray Davies, Ron Sexsmith, Chris Isaak, Sam Cooke, John Prine, Roy Orbison, Ryan Adams, The Smithereens, Squeeze, Jimmy Cliff, James Maddock, the Decemberists, Brendan Benson, Elton John.- Shop: odax
