Two days. Fourteen dead. The next victim could be you.  The first bullet punches through the windshield of an SUV. A head shot. The driver's death is instantaneous. And it's only the beginning.  A sniper along I-20 kills eight and causes a 36 car pileup. Brutal. Efficient.  The next morning, the same individual stalks through a grocery store parking lot with a handgun. He takes out six innocent shoppers along with the store's front window before fleeing without a trace.  By the time Special Agent Violet Darger arrives in Atlanta, the city teeters toward panic. The vacant streets and restaurants paint an eerie picture. No one dares to venture out.  A killer walks among them. A shadow. And the public cowers just the way he wants them to.  Once more Agent Darger must identify with a murderer, must stare into the darkness to anticipate his next move. Putting herself in his head may be the only way to stop him.  The longer she takes, the higher the death toll. He will kill again and again.  But what hatred drives a man to such desperate, violent acts?  And what price must one pay to invite that chaos inside themselves?  A page-turner packed with heart-stopping suspense. Fans of John Sandford, Karin Slaughter, Gillian Flynn, and Lisa Gardner should check out the Violet Darger series.  The books in the series can be read in any order, so grab Killing Season and get started today.  ungekürzt. In 1928, Chicago rocks to the rhythm of the Jazz Age, and Prohibition is in full swing. Small-town girl Marjorie Corrigan, visiting the city for the first time, has sworn that coffee's the strongest drink that will pass her lips. But her quiet, orderly life turns topsy-turvy when she spots her high school sweetheart - presumed killed in the Great War - alive and well in a train station. Suddenly everything is up for grabs. Although the stranger insists he's not who she thinks he is, Marjorie becomes obsessed with finding out the truth. To the dismay of her fiancé and family, she moves to the city and takes a job at a department store so she can spy on him. Meanwhile, the glittering world of her roommate, Dot, begins to look awfully enticing - especially when the object of her obsession seems to be part of that world. Is it really so terrible to bob her hair and shorten her skirt? To visit a speakeasy? Just for a cup of coffee, of course. But what about her scruples? What about the successful young doctor to whom she's engaged, who keeps begging her to come back home where she belongs? And what, exactly, is going on at the store's loading dock so late at night? Amid a whirlwind of trials and temptations, Marjorie must make a choice. Will the mystery man prove to be the cream in her coffee - the missing ingredient to the life she yearns for? Or will he leave only bitterness in her heart? ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Nicole Atallah. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/111345/bk_acx0_111345_sample.mp3. Before Adam Walsh, there were no faces on milk cartons, no Amber Alerts, no National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, no federal databases of crimes against children, no pedophile registry. His 1981 abduction and murder, unsolved for over a quarter of a century, forever changed America. One sunny July morning in 1981, Revé Walsh and her six-year-old son, Adam, stopped by the local Sears to pick up some new lamps. Enchanted by a video game at the store's entrance, Adam begged Revé to let him try it out while she shopped. When she returned a few minutes later, Adam was gone. The shock of Adam's murder, and of the inability of the police and the FBI to find his killer, radically altered American innocence and our ideas about childhood. Gone forever were the days when parents would allow their kids out of the house with the casual instruction "Be home by dark!" Revé and John Walsh, who would go on to create America's Most Wanted, became advocates for the transformation of law enforcement's response to and handling of such cases. Prompted by the Walshes' activism, Congress passed the Missing Children Act in 1982, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children was founded in 1984. While our lives have been significantly altered by Adam Walsh's case, few of us know the whole story: how, after more than 27 years of relentless investigation, decorated Miami Beach homicide detective Joe Matthews finally identified Adam's killer. Bringing Adam Home is the definitive account of this horrifying crime. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Robert Fass. A BBC Radio 4 comedy-drama series with a stunning cast, including Sheila Hancock, Mackenzie Crook, Penelope Wilton, Felicity Montagu, and Kevin Eldon, about a small town in the middle of Northamptonshire as it prepares for a talent night. North by Northamptonshire was originally broadcast weekly from 16 June 2010 to 7 July 2010. In each episode, we catch up with Rod, the local supermarket manager (Mackenzie Crook), who shares rather more than is usual about his private life over the store's tannoy system. We get to know recently divorced Jan (Felicity Montagu) who's been trying unsuccessfully to 'find herself' with a trip abroad to an elephant sanctuary. We are also introduced to driving instructor and forthright self-defence teacher Esther (Katherine Jakeways, also the writer of this series) and her gentle and put-upon Jonathan (Kevin Eldon) as they struggle to start a family, and we meet possibly the only happy couple in town, Ken and Keith, as they attempt to teach their pet whippets to dance for the town talent night. This is a clever, funny, and touching series starring Sheila Hancock as the narrator, Mackenzie Crook as Rod, Penelope Wilton as Mary, Felicity Montagu as Jan, and Kevin Eldon as Jonathan. Also featured amongst the cast are the series' writer Katherine Jakeways, John Biggins, Rufus Wright, and Sam Cotton. Produced by Claire Jones. Tokyo resident Keiko Furukara has never fit in - neither in her family, nor in school - but when at the age of 18 she begins working at the Hiiromachi branch of national convenience store chain Smile Mart, she realizes instantly that she has found her purpose in life. Delighted to be able to exist in a place where the rules of social interaction are crystal clear (many are laid out line-by-line in the store's manual), Keiko does her best to copy the dress, mannerisms, and mode of speech of her colleagues, playing the part of a "normal" person excellently, more or less. Keiko is the perfect employee - never late, always worrying about how to maximize sales, brilliantly conscientious, and highly energetic. Managers come and go but Keiko remains at the store for 18 years. It's almost hard to tell where the store ends and she begins. At 36, Keiko is very happy in her life, but the people close to her, from her family to her coworkers, pressure her to settle down with a man and to find a proper profession. Eventually, she is pushed to make a huge change. The static world of Keiko is upended - but will it be for the better? A brilliant depiction of an unusual psyche and an extraordinary world, Convenience Store Woman is both an ironic and sharp-eyed look at contemporary work culture and the pressures to conform, as well as a charming and completely fresh portrait of an unforgettable heroine. ungekürzt. Food critic Sarah Greenberg is a normal thirty-nine-year-old content with her ordinary life. In fact, the only real excitement she has is the occasional hand she lends at her family's Chicago magic shop. Until one day when the ordinary becomes extraordinary and a simple introduction to her boyfriend's teenage daughter unearths a family trait long dormant in Sarah. Without even trying, she can do magic. Her newfound, though late-blooming abilities make her part of a world she never imaged and her family's long lineage of Magycians unravels Sarah's world. But when she discovers her family's store is danger of being taken away by an old acquaintance named Zondra Bex, Sarah is forced to face an enemy more skilled and decades older than she. Sarah must learn to develop her skills to protect her family from a foe that wants to wield the power embedded in the store's location and rule the Magyckal world. But will embracing her newly discovered abilities eradicate everything she believed herself to be? Part rom-com, part The Dresden Files with a dash of Jewish mythology, ENCHANTING SARAH GREENBERG is a funny, fantastical look into a woman's struggle to find herself, believe in herself, and prove to everyone that she is extraordinary in her own way. "Inglis has a light, comedic touch with this fantasy romance, Enchanting Sarah Greenberg… [The] slightly bonkers worldbuilding brings the fun without ever sacrificing genuine emotion; despite the magical backdrop, Sarah and Colin feel wonderfully grounded. Readers will be spellbound." - Publisher's Weekly

Crowdfunding is one of the newer financing options available. At its most basic level, crowdfunding is asking a group of like-minded persons to back you. In essence, you tell them "I have this cool idea for a new way to sell manga on eBay, but I need a little cash to get it started". In return for their support (money), you reward backers with different incentives. For $5.00 you may give them a shout-out on your homepage or a free digital download. For $25.00 you may offer them a first edition of a new manga. For $250 you could offer them a hand-signed poster from a semi-famous artist. And for $2500 the reward could be an invitation to the online opening of your new store, or maybe you could offer to feature the backer's face somewhere in your store's graphics. The most successful crowdfunding campaign to date was the Veronica Mars Kickstarter in 2013. Producers raised nearly six million dollars from 91,000 backers who couldn't get enough of the TV series. $25 backers were rewarded with a digital download of the movie, $200 backers received a movie poster hand-signed by the cast, and one lucky $10,000 backer received a speaking role in the movie. In effect, crowdfunding is the coming together of people and an idea. It's a collaboration to make something happen. For eBay sellers it's a tougher sell because in most cases you're raising money for a commercial product with just one purpose in mind - to make more money. So if you intend to attract backers, you need to craft one hell of a story. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Bernard Taylor. When a bookshop patron commits suicide, his favorite store clerk must unravel the puzzle he left behind in this fiendishly clever debut novel from an award-winning short story writer. Lydia Smith lives her life hiding in plain sight. A clerk at the Bright Ideas bookstore, she keeps a meticulously crafted existence among her beloved books, her eccentric colleagues, and the BookFrogs - the lost and lonely regulars who spend every day marauding the store's overwhelmed shelves. But when Joey McGinty, a young, beguiling BookFrog, kills himself in the bookstore's back room, Lydia's life comes unglued. Always Joey's favorite bookseller, Lydia has been bequeathed his meager worldly possessions. Trinkets and books - the detritus of a lonely, uncared for man. But when Lydia flips through his books, she finds them defaced in ways both disturbing and inexplicable. They reveal the psyche of a young man on the verge of an emotional reckoning. And they seem to contain a hidden message. What did Joey know? And what does it have to do with Lydia? As Lydia untangles the mystery of Joey's suicide, she unearths a long-buried memory from her own violent childhood. Details from that one bloody night begin to circle back. Her distant father returns to the fold along with an obsessive local cop and the Hammerman, a murderer who came into Lydia's life long ago and, as she soon discovers, never completely left. Bedazzling, addictive, and wildly clever, Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore is a heart-pounding mystery that perfectly captures the intellect and eccentricity of the bookstore milieu and will keep you guessing until the very end. ungekürzt.
