Dangerous
Joyce Heath's name in lights once meant long lines at the box office. Then the talented Broadway star's luck changed. Her shows folded. Her romances ended. And Joyce spent her days in a self-destructive stupor. But a new romance puts her on the road to recovery and holds the promise of marriage.. if she can get her current husband out of the way. As Joyce, Bette Davis is in love and murderously dangerous in this atmospheric melodrama co-starring Franchot Tone. 'The script had just enough material in it to build into something,' the actress recalled. 'I worked like 10 men on that film'. As a result, she earned one of those highly coveted little gold men: The 1935 Academy Award statuette for Best Actress, her first in a trailblazing career so linked to the studio's success that Davis would be called 'the fourth Warner Brother'.- Shop: odax

The Cat and the Fiddle
After Love Me Tonight, Jeanette MacDonald left for Europe... and returned with an M-G-M contract. I Married an Angel was the studio's choice for the soprano's first Metro film. Choose again, said the censors. They would not approve a script about an angel losing her wings to a mortal. So the Cat and the Fiddle, with songs from the Kern-Harbaugh stage musical comedy largely intact, became the debut of Leo's newest star (I Married an Angel resurfaced in 1942 as the last of the famed MacDonald-Eddy films). Ironically, the new film's storyline did not offend the censors: MacDonald and Ramon Navarro portray struggling composers and live-in companions. Her "The Night Was Made for Love" becomes a huge hit... but his career flounders. To escape the hubbub surrounding her, he packs up his suitcase and wounded pride and departs. But when the debut of his operetta is threatened, MacDonald shows up to save the show and rekindle their love. The film shifts to Technicolor for the triumphant finale - a fitting end to a production that's witty and colorful throughout.- Shop: odax

How Do You Take Your Love
Major Harris zeigte seine Hingabe zum Philadelphia Soulsound, als Jerry Ragovoy "How Do You Take Your Love" im New York City des Jahres 1978 produzierte. Re-Mastered from the ORIGINAL MASTER TAPES at Battery Studio's New York by Sony's Mark Wilder. Liner Notes by Alex Henderson Major Harris remained faithful to the Philadelphia soul sound, when the famous Jerry Ragovoy produced "How Do You Take Your Love" in New York City, in 1978. "How Do You Take Your Love" has an all-star cast as the participants include, among others, the ubiquitous session player Sammy Figueroa on percussion, Alfa Anderson, Diva Gray and Luther Vandross on background vocals which certainly gives the album that Philly sound. "Night Moods" (which Chaka Khan recorded in 1981), "Pretty Red Lips (Kiss My Blues Away)", "You're So Good, You're Bad", "I Wanna Dance With You", "Lucky Day" and the title song are mostly slow jams, but the 10-minute "I Wanna Dance With You" brings together Philly soul and Philly disco and manages to be laid back one minute and exuberant the next. "I Wanna Dance With You" starts out as a slow ballad and stays that way for about four minutes, then, Harris increases the tempo considerably and turns the song into a lush but funky disco-soul workout.- Shop: odax

Night of the Eagles (aka Fall of the Eagles)
From the studio that brought you ZOMBIE LAKE and PANTHER SQUAD and the director of FEMALE VAMPIRE and BARBED WIRE DOLLS, comes Jess Franco's NIGHT OF THE EAGLES, a stark WWII drama starring iconic genre actors Christopher Lee (HORROR OF DRACULA, THE BLOODY JUDGE) and Mark Hamill (STAR WARS). Lee plays Strauss, a wealthy German businessman whose comely, loving daughter Lillian (Alexandra Ehrlich) is torn between two lovers, Peter (Hamill) and Karl (Ramon Estevez, brother of Charlie Sheen). Unable to choose between her paramours, Lillian's life changes forever when her beaus are shipped off to fight on the frontlines and she is forced to take a job as dancehall singer in a sordid niteclub. With her country and it's people torn to pieces by the ravages of war and her once prosperous father relegated to poverty and despair, Lillian must make unthinkable choices in the name of survival. A sober, sophisticated and far less exploitative latter-day offering from Franco, NIGHT OF THE EAGLES (also released as FALL OF THE EAGLES and WAR SONG) is one of Eurocine's most ambitious pictures, made shortly after the studio's perverse 1988 Franco masterpiece FACELESS, and boasts handsome production design, authentic costumes, bloody battles and a magnetic supporting performance by Lee as a man who helplessly watches as his dreams unravel. Full Moon is proud to present this underrated, unique Franco film on Blu-ray for the first time in America, totally uncut and remastered from the original 35mm camera negative.- Shop: odax
