The Wit and Wisdom of Yogi Berra , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 258min
In The Wit and Wisdom of Yogi Berra, author Phil Pepe takes Yogi from St. Louis to New York's Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium, including all the stops along the way - from the days he put soles on women's shoes to his induction into the Baseball's Hall of Fame, when he coined one of his most remembered phrases: "I thank everybody for making this day necessary." Phil Pepe explores Yogi Berra as a boy, player, hero, coach, manager, husband, and father, a buffoon and a human being. He relates all of the Berraisms in an absorbing treatment that is simultaneously comical, thoughtful, and biographical. Who can forget what Yogi said about a popular restaurant: "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded." Or Yogi's take on Little League Baseball? "I think it's wonderful. It keeps the kids out of the house." ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Phil Pepe. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/adbl/010064/bk_adbl_010064_sample.mp3. Mycelium Running (eBook, ePUB)
Mycelium Running is a manual for the mycological rescue of the planet. That's right: growing more mushrooms may be the best thing we can do to save the environment, and in this groundbreaking text from mushroom expert Paul Stamets, you'll find out how. The basic science goes like this: Microscopic cells called "mycelium"--the fruit of which are mushrooms--recycle carbon, nitrogen, and other essential elements as they break down plant and animal debris in the creation of rich new soil. What Stamets has discovered is that we can capitalize on mycelium's digestive power and target it to decompose toxic wastes and pollutants (mycoremediation), catch and reduce silt from streambeds and pathogens from agricultural watersheds (mycofiltration), control insect populations (mycopesticides), and generally enhance the health of our forests and gardens (mycoforestry and myco-gardening). In this comprehensive guide, you'll find chapters detailing each of these four exciting branches of what Stamets has coined "mycorestoration," as well as chapters on the medicinal and nutritional properties of mushrooms, inoculation methods, log and stump culture, and species selection for various environmental purposes. Heavily referenced and beautifully illustrated, this book is destined to be a classic reference for bemushroomed generations to come.- Shop: buecher

Arthroscopic and Endoscopic Spinal Surgery
The term "minimally invasive spinal surgery" was coined in early 1990 following pub- cation of the first edition of this text entitled Arthroscopic Microdiscectomy: Minimal Intervention in Spinal Surgery, and subsequent establishment of the International Society for Minimal Intervention in Spinal Surgery (ISMISS) under the auspices of the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT) in April l990. The orthopedic and neurological surgeons who participated in lectures and hands-on wo- shops both in Philadelphia and abroad have witnessed the evolution of minimally invasive spinal surgery from blind nucleotomy to endoscopic fragmentectomy, decompression of l- eral recess stenosis, foraminoplasty, and spinal stabilization. In Arthroscopic and Endoscopic Spinal Surgery: Text and Atlas, Second Edition, experts describe and illustrate various techniques and approaches that are currently used in this field. In addition, the ongoing research for the betterment of spine care via minimally invasive approaches is briefly reviewed. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to so many of my colleagues who s- ported my efforts in the field of minimally invasive spinal surgery throughout the years. Many of them participated in our teaching symposiums and have provided valuable cont- butions to this text.- Shop: buecher

Schizophrenia
Throughout the world, schizophrenia is a diagnosis now in decline, representing a radical shift in our historical and medical understanding of madness and mental distress. But what does this medical term, first coined by a Swiss psychiatrist in 1908, mean? And why is it increasingly unpopular among patients and the medical establishment?Historian and clinician Orna Ophir unearths the stories of patients and doctors as they struggle to make sense of this debilitating condition. At different times, patients have been depicted as possessed by demons, or simply "inspired," as hearing voices, suffering from a "split-mind," or merely having difficulty in "integrating" experiences. Now, a century after its birth, schizophrenia is increasingly viewed not as a radical, abnormal disease defined by an ever-changing cluster of symptoms, but the extreme end of a spectrum on which we are all located. The story Ophir tells is a hopeful one: As patients and doctors sought to overcome stigma and improve therapeutic outcomes, they have shown ever-greater sensitivity to diversity and difference. Schizophrenia: An Unfinished History gestures toward a future in which clinicians and patients will collaborate in the search for better outcomes.- Shop: buecher

The Millionaire Mindset: Make Money and Attract Prosperity to Create Sustainable Generational Wealth , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 182min
The word “mind-set” is coined from two English words as obviously indicated - the word “mind” and the word “set”. According to philosophy, the mind is a nonmaterial substance. It is a set of processes in which consciousness, perception, rationality affectivity, judgment, thinking, and will are based. In other words, the human mind is the site of rational thought and all other thinking. To set something means to position it or place in something. Therefore, mind-set can be defined as the established sense of thinking of a person. Pay close attention to these definitions of mind-set. A person’s usual attitude or mental state is his or her mind-set or a person’s way of thinking and their opinions or an attitude, disposition, mood, or the ideas and attitudes with which a person approaches a situation, especially when these are seen as being difficult to alter or the established set of attitudes held by someone. ungekürzt. The Chandian Effect: Explaining the Modus Operandi Behind Near-Death Experiences, Religious Visions, and Other Paranormal Projections , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 55min
The Chandian Effect describes subjective visionary manifestations in which a devotee has a transpersonal encounter involving a sacred figure or form, of which the object of devotion is unaware. The term was first coined by David C. Lane, and so called because Faqir Chand was the first Sant Mat guru to speak at length about the unknowing aspects of such encounters. The effect designates two major factors in these manifestations: The overwhelming experience of certainty that is associated with religious ecstasies. The subjective projection of sacred forms by a meditator or devotee without the conscious knowledge of the object beheld as the center of the experience. Faqir Chand revealed that all gurus are ignorant about the real cause of the visions and miracles attributed to them, and that because of this ignorance, the gurus gained power and devotion from followers that accredited omnipresence and omniscience to them even though these gurus possessed neither. ungekürzt. A Scientific Notebook: Thomas Henry Huxley’s 100 Insights on Critical Thinking in an Age of Unreason , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 41min
Although Thomas Henry Huxley is most commonly known as Charles Darwin’s Bulldog (Pitbull, today?), the fact remains that he was one of the most insightful thinkers to ever write about the nature of science and its methods.Huxley coined the common usage of the word agnostic (as in “not” or “un” knowing) in contradistinction to the more commonly used Greek word gnosis (as in “knowing” or “to know”). He was an eminently rational man, who though critical of dogmatic religion and believed in the high ethical standards of Judaism and Christianity in terms of how we should treat one another. This small book contains 100 aphorisms from a much larger collection culled by Henrietta A. Huxley at the beginning of the 20th century and published in London, England, in 1908. Our hope is that these penetrating thoughts (occasionally Koan-like in their import) will serve as guideposts on how to become a better critical thinker in all endeavors, scientific or otherwise. ungekürzt.
