Timothy joins Paul and Silas at the beginning of the second missionary journey, A.D. 50-52. A young man from Lystra, Timothy is the “Macgiver” of the Bible—he can fix anything with duct tape and a can of WD-40! This very resourceful young man becomes Paul’s protégé, but on assignment to Ephesus, Timothy finds himself in deep water, well over his head. Paul writes 1 Timothy to offer Timothy guidance and encouragement. Logos Bible Study’s Dr. Bill Creasy explains the social and philosophical challenges facing Timothy as Paul advises him on the proper formation of future leadership in the burgeoning church of Ephesus. Titus, Hörbuch, Digital, 72min
Paul and Titus had worked together for many years, but in this letter Paul calls Titus to task. Left by Paul in Crete sometime between A.D. 63-67 to finish up the work they had started there, Titus has failed to complete the job. Paul writes this letter to give Titus a swift kick in the butt, telling him to complete the work quickly and to join Paul in western Greece as soon as possible. Listen as Logos Bible Study’s Dr. Bill Creasy finds Paul warning Titus to deal carefully with the people of Crete, for all Cretans, says Paul, are “liars, evil brutes, and lazy gluttons!” Language: English. The Minor Prophets, Hörbuch, Digital, 217min
The Minor Prophets of the Hebrew Scriptures are not "minor" because they are less important than the "major" prophets, but because they are shorter in length: Isaiah is 66 chapters; Obadiah is one. Nevertheless, the Minor Prophets are dazzling works that penetrate deeply into Israel's relationship with God, and by inference into our own relationship with God. In Hosea, for example, God instructs the prophet to marry Gomer, the village whore, who will continually betray him with other men: God wants Hosea to know how God feels when Israel, God's "bride", continually betrays him. Jonah is a great "fish tale", the story of a prophet who refuses God's command to go to Nineveh (east of Israel in Assyria, northern Iraq of today), and instead boards ship for Tarshish (as far west as he can go, in Spain, the exact opposite direction!); he ends up in the belly of a great fish, who then vomits him out on dry land, back in Israel (which only goes to show, you can't keep a good man down!). You get the picture. For over 20 years Dr. Creasy stood among the top 2% of UCLA's teaching faculty, and in this series Dr. Creasy offers one of his famous "flagship" courses. Language: English. Jude, Hörbuch, Digital, 20min
Traditionally ascribed to Jude, a brother of both James and the Lord, mentioned in Matthew 13:58, Jude had wanted to write a rather thorough theological treatise, but present circumstances in the church compel him to address a different topic: what believers can do in days of apostasy. Written sometime in the late 80s or early 90s, this epistle offers very practical advice for those living in what appear to be the "end times". Listen closely as Logos Bible Study’s Dr. Bill Creasy walks us through the cautionary events described by the author for the church and it’s followers in what seems to be the closing moments of God’s church here on earth. 1 Thessalonians, Hörbuch, Digital, 90min
Paul visited Thessalonica early in his second missionary journey, A.D. 50-52. In Paul’s day, Thessalonica was the second largest city in Greece/Macedonia, trailing only Athens in size. Amazingly, Paul spends only “three Sabbath days” here before he has to leave town - or be lynched! Yet within six months the church in Thessalonica has become known all over the Roman world for its extraordinary faith. As a church born in the flames of persecution, the church at Thessalonica has several very important questions to ask Paul - especially about the Lord’s return - and Paul addresses these questions in 1 Thessalonians. Enjoy the rich discussion Logos Bible Study’s Dr. Bill Creasy brings to this book as he emphasizes Paul’s words of faith, hope, and love. Language: English. Narrator: Dr. Bill Creasy. Habakkuk, Hörbuch, Digital, 28min
Habakkuk is the prophet with a question mark for a brain! “Why,” he asks, does a God of justice allow injustice to flourish; why does violence prevail? And God provides an answer: “Look at the nations and watch and be utterly amazed, for I am going to do something in your day that you would not believe even if you were told. I am raising up the Babylonians!” Through Habakkuk God takes credit for using the Babylonians as his instrument of judgment on Judah and Jerusalem. This is a stunning book that illustrates not only the depth of God's judgment, but also his methods. Nahum, Hörbuch, Digital, 17min
Jonah knew that if he delivered God’s message to the Ninevites they would repent and God would save them; but he also knew that even if the Ninevites repented, they would backslide into their old ways. And that’s exactly what happens. The prophet Nahum makes clear what will happen to the capital of the Assyrian empire if they turn away from God. And indeed his prophecies come to pass: Nineveh is totally destroyed in 612 B.C. by a coalition of Babylonians and Medes, being buried under 40 feet of sand in the Iraqi desert until Sir Austen Henry Laylard discovers it’s remains in 1847. Join Logo’s Bible Study’s Dr. Bill Creasy as he examines Nahum’s prophetic message to Nineveh. Language: English. Narrator: Dr. Bill Creasy. Joel, Hörbuch, Digital, 31min
Joel may be the earliest of the writing prophets; if he is, then he introduces the term “the Day of the Lord” as a reference to a set of final, catastrophic events that will befall Israel—and indeed all humanity in the “end times.” Illustrating his message with reference to a dreadful locust plague that occurred in the past, we shudder as God makes clear that if Israel does not repent something much greater than a locust plague will occur. Follow along as Logos Bible Study’s Dr. Bill Creasy casts this book’s imagery in living color and Dolby® sound on the big screens of our mind’s eye, compelling us to understand the dire message of this unique prophet. 1 Peter, Hörbuch, Digital, 165min
Peter and Paul were close associates, and Peter had read many of Paul's writings, some of which, he says “are hard to understand”. Peter was a commercial fisherman, not a scholar like Paul. Nonetheless, Peter has in mind in the early 60s to write an epistle addressing a number of important issues - but he doesn’t feel rhetorically equipped to do so. Enter Paul’s associate, Silas. Peter says, “With the help of Silas I have written this letter.” And what a letter it is! In it Peter addresses salvation, grace, faith, the Trinity, atonement, and a host of other topics, any one of which would fill a library with theological books. Join Logos Bible Study’s Dr. Bill Creasy as he delves into this extraordinary epistle, written by Peter, with the help of Silas. Language: English. Narrator: Dr. Bill Creasy. Daniel, Hörbuch, Digital, 298min
In Jewish Bibles, Daniel is classified among the “Writings”, not among the “Prophets”; in Christian Bibles, Daniel is classified among the major prophets. Written sometime in the second century B.C., the story of Daniel is set in Babylon, 605-539 B.C. Read through a Christian interpretative lens, Daniel foreshadows the coming of the Messiah as well as the “end time” events in the book of Revelation. Daniel is a very important book for Jesus, who draws his self-referential title “Son of Man” from Daniel 7:13-14; who quotes directly from Daniel 12 in the Olivet Discourse; and who seals his “guilty” verdict before Jerusalem’s religious leaders by reference to the book of Daniel. Join Logos Bible Study’s Dr. Bill Creasy as he explores this extraordinary work. Language: English. Narrator: Dr. Bill Creasy.
