Pest (eBook, ePUB)
High school senior Hallie Mayhew spends her days traipsing from one lavish Montecito estate to the next . . . spraying ant poison.Between her dad's pest control company, her mom's pond cleaning service and her side gig at Caddysnack (Santa Barbara's premier small plates and minigolf destination) Hal puts the work in working class. But Hal has qualms about gassing gophers. She's tired of ditching friends to skim dead fish from fountains. And she's freaking weary of divorced-parent politics. So Hal has a plan: win the prestigious Verhaag Scholarship, go to an east coast school, never come back. But the Verhaag Scholarship has a proud history of nepotism and a last-minute contender just crawled out of the woodwork. Hal's parking lot nemesis usurps Yearbook Committee, depriving Hal of her only extracurricular credit. Her Montecito clients are in a defensive frenzy over a rash of estate burglaries and, if her jobs keep making her tardy, she may not even graduate. To salvage her scholarship, Hal needs the help of Spencer Salazar, the dim, infuriating (and kinda hot) rich kid next door. To save her college prospects, she must restore the natural order of Yearbook Committee. To preserve her graduation eligibility, she needs a happy first period history teacher. And, ideally, she'll avoid death by doberman. Now, in her non-existent spare time, Hal is adding private eye, matchmaker, and rat commando to her list of side gigs and wonderingmaybe too lateif she misjudged the boy next door.- Shop: buecher

Worth the Fighting For: The Education of an American Maverick, and the Heroes Who Inspired Him , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 1108min
National Bestseller Senator John McCain tells the story of his great American journey, from the U.S. Navy to his electrifying campaign for the presidency in 2000, interwoven with heartfelt portraits of the mavericks who have inspired him through the years. After five and a half years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam, naval aviator John McCain returned home a changed man. Regaining his health and flight-eligibility status, he resumed his military career, commanding carrier pilots and serving as the navy’s liaison to what is sometimes ironically called the world’s most exclusive club, the United States Senate. Accompanying Senators John Tower and Henry “Scoop” Jackson on international trips, McCain began his political education in the company of two masters, leaders whose standards he would strive to maintain upon his election to the U.S. Congress. There, he learned valuable lessons in cooperation from a good-humored congressman from the other party, Morris Udall. In 1986, McCain was elected to the U.S. Senate, inheriting the seat of another role model, Barry Goldwater. During his time in public office, McCain has seen acts of principle and acts of craven self-interest. He describes both extremes in these pages, with his characteristic straight talk and humor. He writes honestly of the lowest point in his career, the Keating Five savings and loan debacle, as well as his triumphant moments—his return to Vietnam and his efforts to normalize relations between the U.S. and Vietnamese governments; his fight for campaign finance reform; and his galvanizing bid for the presidency in 2000. Writes McCain: “A rebel without a cause is just a punk. Whatever you’re called—rebel, unorthodox, nonconformist, radical—it’s all self-indulgence without a good cause to give your life meaning.” This is the story of McCain’s causes, the people who made him do it, and the meaning he found. Lost and Found: Educating Parents of Intellectually Disabled High School Students How to Navigate Through College and Beyond , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 66min
Do you have an intellectually disabled child? Do you feel lost and overwhelmed, searching for answers, resources, and solutions, but no one knows how to help you? I know the feeling all too well of needing someone to provide support through the process when I unexpectedly took on the role as caretaker for my niece, and was suddenly burdened down by the financial demands of having to meet her exceptional needs and still provide the best life possible. Regardless of socioeconomic barriers, families raising children with intellectual disabilities deserve access to information, resources, and strategic educational tools. In Lost and Found, I use my expertise as an educational life coach and consultant and previous Aged, Blind, and Disabled Medicaid Eligibility Specialist with the Department of Family and Children's Services to provide a behind-the-scenes experience and a firsthand account of the vulnerabilities presented for caregivers raising an intellectually disabled child when information is not readily accessible. In this book you will learn how to determine the level of intellectual disability for your child and understand what this may mean for your family. You will learn the legal ramifications of age and signature of consent for your child when seeking resources. You will discover the disconnect between Federal disability diagnosis (SSI, for example) and the states’ determination of waiver program resources and will be provided with solutions to this growing issue. Learn why it is so important to start early transitional planning for your child before high school ends and adulthood begins. Most of all, I understand your struggle, concerns, and worries through firsthand experience. You’ve lost your way, and now it's time to take back your control and your peace of mind. Allow the information within this book guide you out of the darkness of confusion and into the light of solutions. There is light in the darkness. ungekürzt. Language: English. Lung Cancer Screening
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death among men and women in the U.S. and worldwide. For many decades, lung cancer was the sole cancer among the deadly four without an evidence-based screening method for decreasing mortality. This changed in November 2011, when findings from the National Lung Cancer Screening Trial showed low-dose lung CT screening was more efficacious in reducing deaths in high-risk individuals than conventional radiography. As such, an ever-increasing number of health organizations now recommend this screening protocol.Lung Cancer Screening by Mark Parker and esteemed VCU Health colleagues, fulfills the dire need for a comprehensive guide explaining the crucial aspects of lung cancer screenings. The first two chapters lay a foundation with discussion of lung cancer epidemiology and risk factors beyond cigarette smoking. Subsequent chapters cover the fundamentals, with clinical pearls on setting up a successful lung cancer screening program, patient eligibility criteria, imaging variances of tumors in the lungs, screening pros and cons, and interpreting/reporting screening results. The evolution and future of lung cancer screeningsDetection and management of unexpected incidental pulmonary and non-pulmonary findingsDiscussion of test cases utilizing the Lung-RADSTM risk-stratifying system for low-dose chest CT screeningsBenefits and potential harms associated with mass lung cancer screening programs including false positive, false negative, and over-diagnosis ratesThis state-of-the-art guide is essential reading for radiologists, oncologists, pulmonologists, and internists. It is a must-have bookshelf reference for hospital radiology and oncology departments, in particular for those setting up new lung cancer screening programs.- Shop: buecher

Bowl game
In North America, a bowl game is commonly considered to refer to one of a number of post-season college football games. Prior to 2002, bowl game statistics were not included in players' career totals and the games were mostly considered to be exhibition games involving a payout to participating teams, which had to meet strict eligibility requirements. As the number of bowl games has grown (in 2008, there were 34), a bowl game has become a season-ending event for virtually every team with a winning record and the games have gained increased importance for the revenue they bring to participating programs and the opportunity to recruit new players to the teams. In recent years, the term "bowl" has become synonymous with any major American football event, generally collegiate football with some significant exceptions (see Super Bowl). One example is the Iron Bowl, a nickname given to the annual game between the University of Alabama Crimson Tide and the Auburn University Tigers. The term "bowl" originated from the Rose Bowl Stadium, site of the first post-season college football games. The Rose Bowl stadium takes its name and bowl-shaped design from the Yale Bowl, the prototype of many football stadiums in the United States. In Canada, Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) plays two semi-final "bowl games" before the Vanier Cup Game. The Uteck Bowl is normaly played between the Atlantic Devision Champion and the champion from another division. It is usually held at the venue of the eastern most team playing in the semi-finals. The Mitchell Bowl is played at the western most teams venue participating in the semi-finals- Shop: buecher
