Das neue Album des legendären Songwriter und Gitarristen Richard Thompson, produziert von Jeff Tweedy (Wilco) Der englische Folkmusiker Richard Thompson gehörte 1967 zur Gründungsbesetzung von Fairport Convention und blieb für fünf Studio-Alben und ein Live-Album bei der Band, bis er sich 1971 entschied, eine Solokarriere zu starten. In seiner langen Karriere nahm er zahlreiche Alben auf, darunter auch einige mit seiner Frau Linda Thompson. Er ist Empfänger des BBC Lifetime Achievement Award und Mojo Les Paul Award. Die Americana Music Association ehrte ihn kürzlich mit dem Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting. Robert Plant, REM, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt und viele andere haben Songs von Thompson aufgenommen. 'Still' wurde in Chicago unter Beteiligung von einigen Musikern aus Thompsons und Tweedys Bands aufgenommen, der auch das Album produzierte. Available in two configurations, the original album pressed on two 180g RED vinyl discs packaged in heavyweight inner sleeves in a gatefold outer sleeve, and exclusive to Vinyl180 a Collectors Limited Edition of 2000 copies of Still as a three 180g LP set, the third disc comprising the five songs from the Variations E.P featured in the DELUXE CD package. Each disc comes in its own outer sleeve and there is a newly designed twelve page album sized lyric booklet. The whole package fits into its own hardback slipcase making an impressive package, worthy of its contents. Produced by Jeff Tweedy, Still was originally released in June 2015 and MOJO Magazine named RT s Still as the 21st best album of 2015. He s the Ultimate Triple Threat. Getting to work closely with him on this record was a truly rewarding experience, not to mention a great thrill. Thompson enlisted Tweedy s production skills in an effort to shake up his own creative approach to making records. It turned out be really good idea, says Thompson. Jeff is musically very sympathetic. Although some of his contributions are probably rather subtle to the listener s ear, they were really interesting and his suggestions were always very pertinent. Taken as a whole, Still is a powerful dispatch from an acknowledged master who remains unafraid to put himself into demanding new environments its title reflecting that resilience and seemingly endless resourcefulness. Future Hopes
Aus mitunter schräg eingefärbtem Retroprog, gefälligen Folkpassagen (...) eine sehr abwechslungsreiche Scheibe zu formen. Das kreative Schlagzeuspiel und der lebensbejahend wirkende Damengesang runden die sehr gelungene Mischung ab.Norwegisches Prog-Urgestein mit elf Buchstaben: White Willow. 1992/93 in Oslo gegründet, hat sich die Band über die Jahre hinweg einen herausragenden Ruf erspielt, ihre Alben sind Kritikerlieblinge und werden regelmäßig als trendsetzend bezeichnet. White Willow waren dereinst mit Änglagård, Anekdoten und Landberk die Speerspitze des skandinavischen Prog-Revivals - weil sie, wie kaum eine andere Band ihre Einflüsse von Prog Rock, Folk Rock, Electronica aus den Quellen Genesis, Blue Öyster Cult, King Crimson, Fairport Convention, Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell zu ihrem eigenen Stil mit immerzu weiblichem Gesang verarbeiten. Das erste Album seit 2011 zeigt die Band deutlich progressiver denn noch auf dem Vorgänger Terminal Twilight, die Tracks sind länger, viele instrumentale Passagen und exzessiver Einsatz analoger Synthesizer (Mellotrons, Chamberlins, Moogs, Solinas, Prophets und vor allem der Yamaha CS80). Das Line-Up der Band war schon immer ein loses Konglomerat mit nur zwei fixen Bestandteilen: Multi-Instrumentalist Jacob Holm-Lupo und Drummer Mattias Olsson, diesmal zu hören: Flötist Ketil Einarsen (Jaga Jazzist, Motorpsycho), Keyboarder Lars Fredrik Frøislie (Wobbler, Tusmørke), und Bassistin Ellen Andrea Wang (Pixel, Manu Katché Quartet). Ihren Stempel drücken dem Album aber Sängerin Venke Knutson (mehrere Pop-Top-10-Hits in Norwegen) und Gitarristin Hedvig Mollestad auf - Future Hopes wird durch die beiden zum Hörgenuss! TRACKS: 1.
