Originally released on CD back in 2013, Nick had had the pleasurable experience of recording stints with such highly acclaimed musicians as Lana Del Rey, Newton Faulkner and Steven Wilson, this brought about the Riven recordings. It's a typically eclectic mix of songs and styles, but with a light and a dark side, split down the middle by the title track. So, up front we have 6 minute songs like 'Juicy Fruit Girl' - a staccato paean to late 20th century popular culture with a witty look at things like Postman's Knock, along with 'Love Is Due' a rambling acoustic love story set around baggage in airports and beyond, to lighter tunes like 'Sunshine' inspired by the birth of Harper's son and that round shiny thing recently a feature in the sky in the UK. On the darker side Harper lurches into a visceral strident attack on Kelvin Mackenzie in 'Plague of Toads' and swings a cynical folky kick in the nuts to Nick Clegg in 'The Incredible Melting Man'. In essence it is the work of an artist given free reign to express himself outside the confines of the 'music business' devoid of compromise and led by artistic whims rather than commercial dictates.     Born in Cardiff, Wales, son of a Lay Preacher-Merchant Navy Sea Captain, Lindsay crossed the Atlantic Ocean six times by small cargo steamer, before the age of eight. Lindsay started playing guitar and writing songs at the age of eleven. His first UK recordings were in the duo 'John Patterson & Lindsay Morgan', and then as the 'Folk-Rock-Gospel' band 'The Proclaimers'. After moving to CANADA he spent the early part of his performing and recording career, in the Duo 'Jacqueline & Lindsay', traveling extensively across CANADA, as well as stints in Jamaica, Barbados and Antigua. Though interrupted by a few years, Skool Boyz was a continuation of Flavor, the same members -- Stan Sheppard (lead), Chauncey Matthews (vocals and keyboards), and Fred Brown (vocals and guitar) -- comprised Flavor, with William Billy Sheppard (vocals and bass guitar), Stan s brother, the new kid on the block. Stan sung with Triple S with Steve and Sterling Rice between his stints with Flavor and Skool Boyz. Billy and Stan are the sons of R&B legend Bill Bunky Sheppard. At least two singles appeared on Destiny Records: Can We Do It Again occupied the A-side of their November 1981 debut and the B-side of their February 1982 parting shot, This Feeling Must Be Real. A short spell on Crossroad Records produced Before You Go (October 1983), followed by Breakin Out in 1984. A major break came in 1984 when Columbia Records took them on, but after four singles -- debuting with Slip Away -- and two albums, the situation dissolved disappointingly. Their self-produced debut album Skool Boyz had some fine ballads Nothin Like a Slow Dance, Before You Go (the Destiny single), You Are the Best Thing in My Life, and some rhythmic up-tempo numbers, but the sales didn t equal the glowing reviews.
