Shakespeare's Lovers (Unabridged Selections), Hörbuch, Digital, 153min
Many of the greatest lovers, and the greatest love scenes in Western literature, are to be found in Shakespeare. The fresh but impassioned Romeo and Juliet, the resilient wit of Petruchio and Kate, the ardent exchanges of Lorenzo and Jessica ,and the anguished tragedies of Othello and Desdemona and Antony and Cleopatra - they all show love and courtship in its many forms. The darker side of love is here too - the spine-chilling wooing of Lady Anne by Richard, Duke of Gloucester, and the control maintained by Lady Macbeth over her husband. But it is balanced by the buffoonery of Falstaff and Mistress Ford and Pyramus and Thisbe. In their lively and imaginative selection, Bill Homewood and Estelle Kohler perform the finest love scenes form nearly twenty plays. Language: English. Narrator: Estelle Kohler, Bill Homewood. Metamorphoses , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 917min
Ovid's sensuous and witty poem brings together a dazzling array of mythological tales, ingeniously linked by the idea of transformation, often as a result of love or lust, in which men and women find themselves magically changed into new and sometimes extraordinary beings. Beginning with the creation of the world and ending with the deification of Augustus, Ovid interweaves many of the best known myths and legends of ancient Greece and Rome, including Daedalus and Icarus, Pyramus and Thisbe, Pygmalion, Perseus and Andromeda, and the fall of Troy. Mortals become gods, animals turn to stone, and humans change into flowers, trees, or stars. First published in A.D. 8, Ovid's Metamorphoses remains one of the most accessible and inspirational introductions to Greek mythology. Translated by Frank Justus Miller. ungekürzt. Language: English.
Murder at the Cat Show: The Perkins & Tate Mysteries, Book 2 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 350min
Doug Perkins doesn't dislike cats - he just isn't especially interested in them. But the struggling young London public relations firm Perkins and Tate can't afford to be choosy about the jobs they take. So when Doug is asked to do the PR for a glorified feline extravaganza called Cats Through the Ages, he doesn't hesitate. But it isn't long before he wishes he had hesitated. There are some very valuable cats on exhibit - even a few feline celebrities. Then the robbery of a gold statue of Dick Whittington's cat sets nerves on edge. The theft is not exactly a PR man's dream, but this disaster pales in comparison to the gruesome murder that follows. Someone has knocked unconscious the show's organizer, the universally despised Rose Chesne-Malverne, and pushed her into a cage with a pair of feral tigers fancifully named Pyramus and Thisbe - with predictably fatal results. Now it's up to Doug to find an elusive killer who appears to have nine lives of his own. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Steven Crossley. A Midsummer Night's Dream: Fully Dramatized Audio Edition, Hörbuch, Digital, 127min
Folger Shakespeare Library, The World’s Leading Center for Shakespeare Studies The Folger Shakespeare Library, home to the world's largest Shakespeare collection, brings A Midsummer Night's Dream to life with this new full-length, full-cast dramatic recording of its definitive Folger Edition. In A Midsummer Night's Dream, Shakespeare stages the workings of love in unexpected ways. In the woods outside Athens, two young men and two young women sort themselves into couples - but not before they form first one love triangle, and then another. The king and queen of fairyland, Oberon and Titania, battle over custody of an orphan boy. Oberon uses magic to make Titania fall in love with a weaver named Bottom, in an effort to distract Titania from the custody battle. While all of this is going on, Bottom and his companions ineptly stage the tragedy of "Pyramus and Thisbe". This new full-cast recording - based on the most respected edition of Shakespeare’s classic - expertly produced by the Folger Theatre, is perfect for students, teachers, and the everyday listener. Unspeakable Pleasure: Collected Exotica , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 168min, (USK 18)
An exquisitely sensuous collection of exotic short stories and erotic flashes designed to fuel your senses. "Trick or Treat?" An evening caller makes an offer to his Mrs. Robinson. "Nine Moonless Nights" A carnal, explicit story that tells the tale of a wanton girl and the lengths she'll go to learn the ways of a woman. Loosely based on Ovid's Myrrha, this explicit story is an adaption of an alternative version under the title Nine Days and Nine Nights. "Love Knot" An ancient love story mirroring Ovid's Pyramus and Thisbe. "Secrecies of Lust" Inspired by Ovid's mythological water nymph, "Secrecies of Lust" tells the contemporary story of a girl's sexual awakening and the potency of lust. "Pina" Struck through the heart at his first glimpse of flower maiden Pina, David resorts to kidnap. "Miss Marble" He creates a sculpture of the perfect woman and dreams her alive. Taking inspiration from Ovid's Pygmalion, "Miss Marble" tells the tale of a sculptor who sculpts the perfect woman. The marble beauty is cold to the touch, but in the sculptor's dreams she comes alive. Overwhelmed by love and lust, the sculptor makes an appeal to Venus, the goddess of love.
