Throughout history, the San Francisco Bay Area has long been named as the epicenter for "thrash metal"; whereas, Los Angeles is invariably considered the “hair metal” capitol. True, San Francisco has birthed many exceptional thrash bands since the early ‘80s, but the fact is, LA is the birthplace of three out of the "Big Four” thrash bands, as well as the breeding grounds for many of the more unconventional speed/thrash/punk-metal bands.Whether it’d be the legendary icons Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth, or punk/metal renegades Suicidal Tendencies, or underground thrash legends Dark Angel and Hirax, like it or not, they all originated from this pretentious megalopolis hellhole we call Los Angeles! So, why is it that LA thrash metal has taken a backseat to the NorCal Bay Area? This is one of many issues that will be revealed in this compelling two-volume documentary presented by MetalRock Films. This third installment of the groundbreaking Inside Metal series takes the listener on a journey into the evolution of thrash metal, or “speed metal” as it was originally labeled. Appropriately titled The Rise of LA Thrash Metal explores the '80s metal counterculture with firsthand insight from the bands and artists that ruled the LA metal underground, as well as journalists, scenesters, and insiders from a time in history when metal music was becoming more and more creative, experiential, uncompromising, and extreme - a time when thrash metal was thriving in LA!Featuring exclusive interviews with Lars Ulrich (Metallica), David Ellefson (Megadeth), Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies), Rocky George (Suicidal Tendencies), Eric Peterson (Testament), Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel, Testament, Dethklok), Brian Slagel (Metal Blade Records), John Bush (Armored Saint, Anthrax), Joey Vera (Armored Saint), Frank Bello (Anthrax), Chris Poland (ex-Megadeth), Marty Friedman, Juan Garcia (Agent Steel, Abattoir, Body Count), Katon De Pena (Hirax), Eric Me Language: English. Canoeing the Congo narrates the journey of Phil Harwood, who undertook an epic five-month solo attempt to canoe the Congo River in war-torn Central Africa. It was a historic first descent from the true source in the highlands of Zambia. Just short of 3,000 miles long, the Congo River is the eighth longest in the world and the deepest river in the world, with a flow rate second only to the Amazon. Along the way, Phil encountered numerous waterfalls, huge rapids, man-eating crocodiles, hippos, aggressive snakes and spiders' webs the size of houses. He faced endemic corruption, was arrested, intimidated, bullied, chased and he received numerous death threats. He also collapsed from malaria. The people were mostly friendly, however, and Phil received tremendous hospitality from a proud and brave people, especially from the riverside fishermen who helped him wherever they could. On one stretch of river known as The Abattoir due to its past history of cannibalism and current reputation for criminal activity, he hired four brothers with a shotgun to accompany him as bodyguards. They paddled and floated for five days and nights on the river. Common questions from locals were, ‘why haven't you cut his throat yet?’ and ‘if you don't want to do it, tell us where your camping and we'll come and do it for you ...We'll share his money.’ It was an exhilarating, terrifying and wonderful journey but Phil managed to survive, despite the odds, to tell his story. Canoeing the Congo will appeal to fans of adventurous travel writing and people who love the nature and wilderness. Phil, who is a fan of adventure stories himself, enjoys the work of Ranulph Fiennes and Bill Bryson. Phil has worked all over the world as an ex-Royal Marine Commando, ski-guide, expedition leader, outdoor instructor and development trainer. He is qualified as mountain leader, a level 4 canoe coach, a level 3 kayak coach, a rock climbing instructor, a wilderness emergency medical ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Gareth Armstrong. The world as it had been ended in less than a day. An ancient evil that had been relegated to the most ancient of myths and legends has returned. The dead rose to consume the flesh of the living and only the lucky and the strong were able to survive the initial onslaught. Three groups of survivors must come together and unite against an army of the dead lead by a dark priest and his human followers who are looking to find the key to opening the barriers between worlds and turn the Earth into a true realm of the dead. Liam Harrison is a former Special Forces soldier and current spook for the NSA. As the dead rise he races to warn his estranged family and save as many people sheltered at Wright Patterson Air Force Base as he can before the dead breach the barriers and turn the temporary refuge into an abattoir. Kyle Carson was one of the directionless slackers that seemed to typify the current generation of young adults. When the dead rose he found himself trapped at his place of employment with friends and enemies alike. Even if he and his best friend manage to escape the tightening noose of the dead surrounding the store they will still need to locate those they love and find some place, any place that is safe from the dead. Dr. Lisa Sutton survived two tours in the sands of Afghanistan only to return to a position at the University of Michigan ER just in time for the dead to rise. As command and control breaks down it is up to the reserve Army Captain to take command of the situation and prepare the survivors at the school for a long trek to safety in the states upper peninsula. Sherriff David Marshall is usually only concerned with keeping the peace in the small town of White Harbor Michigan. But when the dead rise and the town is cut off from the state and federal governments, if they even still exist, David and the council of the town are saddled with protecting the people of the county from the dead? And the living. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Clay Teunis. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/016187/bk_acx0_016187_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.
