"Yet remains that one of the Æsir who is called Týr: he is most daring, and best in stoutness of heart, and he has much authority over victory in battle; it is good for men of valour to invoke him. It is a proverb, that he is Týr-valiant, who surpasses other men and does not waver. He is wise, so that it is also said, that he that is wisest is Týr-prudent. This is one token of his daring: when the Æsir enticed Fenris-Wolf to take upon him the fetter Gleipnir, the wolf did not believe them, that they would loose him, until they laid Týr's hand into his mouth as a pledge. But when the Æsir would not loose him, then he bit off the hand at the place now called 'the wolf's joint;' and Týr is one-handed, and is not called a reconciler of men.”   Much of what is known of the Norse myths comes from the 10th century onwards. Until this time and, indeed, for centuries afterwards, Norse culture (particularly that of Iceland, where the myths were eventually transcribed) was an oral culture. In fact, in all Scandinavian countries well into the thirteenth century laws were memorized by officials known as “Lawspeakers” who recited them at the “Thing.”  The Thing was the legislative assembly in Scandinavia “held for judicial purposes”. One of the most famous of these lawspeakers was the Icelander Snorri Sturluson, a masterful writer who wrote the Prose Edda in the 13th century. There are other sources for the Norse myths, namely the later Poetic Edda, a collection of poems and prose work, and other sagas but the Snorri’s Prose Edda is the most complete work whose attribution is known to modern scholars.   ungekürzt. Many narcissists go through life on autopilot. They spew words of disdain and dissatisfaction everywhere they go. This spewing is often a recording of whatever the negativistic adults around him said when the narcissist was a child. He memorized racial attacks, bullying from the adults to subordinates, movie quotes where one person was bullying another, and offensive language that others used around him. The narcissist uses the slang that his equally harsh friends used when they bullied others, or the nasty words his siblings used to taunt him when he was a youngster. Narcissists hate their own life. They hate that they have never fit in. They hate that they were bullied as youngsters. They hate that they were left behind or abandoned by many. They hate that they got bad grades in school. They hate that they flunked out of college. They hate that members of the opposite sex didn't give them enough attention. They hate that they have a long list of failed relationships, or that they could never get any relationships started at all. Narcissists hate that they can't live up to the expectations of others. Heck, they can't even live up to their own expectations. They hate that their parents are disappointed in them. They hate that they can't sustain meaningful friendships or relationships anywhere they go. They hate that the adults around them always had expectations that were just out of their reach. They hate that they weren't allowed to play football because of a hovering or over-protective parent. They hate that everything wasn't served up to them on a silver platter. ungekürzt. Kellen Tavadon, son of the Arch-Mage Lycaelon, thought he knew the way the world worked. His father, leading the wise and benevolent Council of Mages, protected and guided the citizens of the Golden City of the Bells. Young Mages in training---all men, for women were unfit to practice magic---memorized the intricate details of High Magic and aspired to seats on the council. Then Kellen found the forbidden Books of Wild Magic---or did they find him? Their Magic felt like a living thing, guided by the hearts and minds of those who practiced it and benefited from it. Questioning everything he has known, Kellen discovers too many of the City's dark secrets. Banished, with the Outlaw Hunt on his heels, Kellen invokes Wild Magic---and finds himself running for his life with a unicorn at his side. Rescued by a unicorn, healed by a female Wild Mage who knows more about Kellen than anyone outside the City should, meeting Elven royalty and Elven warriors, and plunged into a world full of magical beings, Kellen both revels in and fears his new freedom. The one thing all the Mages of the City agreed on was that practicing Wild Magic corrupted a Mage---turned him into a Demon. Would that be Kellen's fate? Deep in Obsidian Mountain, the Demons are waiting. Since their defeat in the last great War, they've been biding their time, sowing the seeds of distrust and discontent between their human and Elven enemies. Very soon now, when the Demons rise to make war, there will be no alliance between High and Wild Magic to stand against them. And then all the world will belong to the Endarkened. ungekürzt. The Qur'an is the ultimate mercy for mankind from the most merciful and the most compassionate-Allah. 1 He is called so in His last book and by other good names like Al-Rahmdn the most merciful. 2 He is the sole Creator and Sustainer of man, the 7 universe and all that is within it." He has provided man with all that is needed for his sustenance and in this world. Above all He has sent his messengers and the books for man's guidance and his ultimate success in this world and the hereafter." He has had sent his messengers to all the people. Muhammad (S) is His last messenger and the Qur'a n is the last book, which was revealed to him and is the latest version of Allah's guidance for mankind for all times to come. The Qur'an is a record of the exact words revealed by God through the angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad (S). It was memorized by Prophet Muhammad (S) and then dictated to his companions, and written down by scribes, who crosschecked it during his lifetime. Not one word of 114 chapters, Surah, has been changed over the centuries, so the Qur'an is in every detail the unique and miraculous text, which was revealed to Muhammad (S) fourteen centuries ago. The Qur'an is primarily the book of guidance. It confirms and preserves all the essential teachings of earlier Divine books and messages of earlier messengers. It takes man to the light from darkness. It is a wholesome treatment to man's various ailmentsbe they spiritual, moral or intellectual. 1 0 Down the history, the Muslims (the believers in this book as the ultimate guide), have had made tremendous efforts in the way of facilitating better understanding of the book for themselves and,

A bloody revolt by a North African prince and a plot to seize control of Rome are the subjects of two short masterpieces of ancient history by the illustrious Roman chronicler, Sallust. The Jugurthine War tells the story of the crafty Numidian, Jugurtha, his brutal lunge for power beginning in 118 B.C. and his capture and execution in 106 B.C. It is a tale of pitched battles and savage guerilla warfare, failed peace conferences and corrupt officials, treachery and heroism. The Conspiracy of Cataline is a gothic tale of revenge, violence, and naked aggression in the pursuit of power. Its most famous participants are Cicero, the young Julius Caesar, and Lucius Sergius Cataline. Cataline is described by Sallust as "a guilt-stained soul at odds with gods and men, who found no rest either waking or sleeping, so cruelly did conscience ravage his overwrought mind". Hear the peculiar power in the dramatic prose which Sallust employs in these two great works. They are not only a magnificent example of the gravitas of the Latin language in the hands of a master, but also a valuable source for the speeches of some of history's most famous leaders. Translated by Handford, Lord, and Blackistone. Also included on this volume:With Cataline himself present in the Roman senate chamber near the end of 63 B.C., Cicero hurled at him one of the most superb examples of oratory ever known, the famous First Oration Against Cataline which was memorized by schoolboys for a thousand years. As the speech continued, the senators who were seated in the vicinity of Cataline quietly got up one by one and moved away from him, leaving him alone on one side of the senate chamber staring at the floor. Upon its completion, with applause for Cicero still ringing in his ears, Cataline walked out of the senate building and left Rome. Listen as this spine tingling example of oratorical bravura engulfs Cataline! ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Charlton Griffin. Juz Amma from the Noble Quran bilingual edition with English and Arabic language editions.  The Noble Quran, literally meaning "the recitation", also romanized Qur'an or Koran, is the central religious text of Islam, which Muslims believe to be a revelation from Allah SWT (God). It is widely regarded as the finest work in classical Arabic literature. The Quran is divided into chapters (surah in Arabic), which are then divided into verses (ayah).   Muslims believe that the Quran was verbally revealed by God to Prophet Muhammad SAW through the angel Gabriel (Jibril), gradually over a period of approximately 23 years, beginning on 22 December 609 CE, when Prophet Muhammad SAW was 40, and concluding in 632, the year of his death. Muslims regard the Quran as the most important miracle of Prophet Muhammad SAW, a proof of his prophethood, and the culmination of a series of divine messages that started with the messages revealed to Prophet Adam and ended with Prophet Muhammad SAW. The word Quran occurs some 70 times in the text of the Quran, although different names and words are also said to be references to the Quran.   According to the traditional narrative, several companions of Prophet Muhammad SAW served as scribes and were responsible for writing down the revelations. Shortly after Prophet Muhammad SAW passed away, the Quran was compiled by his companions who wrote down and memorized parts of it. These codices had differences that motivated the Caliph Uthman to establish a standard version now known as Uthman's codex, which is generally considered the archetype of the Quran known today. There are, however, variant readings, with mostly minor differences in meaning.   The Noble Quran assumes familiarity with major narratives recounted in the biblical scriptures. It summarizes some, dwells at length on others, and, in some cases, presents alternative accounts and interpretations of events.  ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Muhammad Ibnu Adam. Learn about Hinduism by listening to its most important texts - the Upanishads!Have you always been interested in Hinduism but didn’t know where to start? The Upanishads are ancient texts explaining mediations, philosophy, and spiritual ideas of Hinduism. The Vedas are the core scriptures of Hinduism. In Sanskrit, "Veda" translates to knowledge. These texts offer exactly that - timeless, ancient knowledge and an understanding of some of the highest ideas mankind has ever had. The Upanishads represent the oldest and most revered part of the Vedas. They are the beating heart of Hinduism thought and practice. For centuries, these texts were memorized and passed through generations by oral transmission. They predate Buddhism and Christianity and fascinate both Western and Eastern modern philosophers. Two central topics covered by the Upanishads are concepts of brahman and atman.Brahman represents the all-pervasive fabric of our reality. It’s timeless, infinite, and eternal, the truth that never changes but causes all change. All existence is described by brahman, manifested or not. It’s formless, but contains all forms.Atman, on the other hand, signifies the inner self, what we call the soul. It’s the immortal essence of all living beings, humans, animals, and trees. The Upanishads state that the true self of a person is not to be found in their body, mind, or ego - the true self is always atman. As such, it’s eternal and at the core of every being. The relationship between brahman and atman is discussed throughout the Upanishads and by Hindu philosophers ever since. Some say they are the absolutely same; some say they are the same, but different.Since they were translated in the 19th century, the Upanishads have fascinated and impressed the Western minds. There’s no source better to reveal the wisdom of Hinduism, its philosophy, and spiritual practices. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Anne Warner, Jessica Caruso. Guaranteed to give the student a solid core list of words for the SATs. Unlike most SAT prep courses, this short concise audiobook is laser focused on the words themselves. It does not wear down and intimidate the student with length and breadth. This list was first developed at Choate, the distinguished American preparatory school with a wide range of graduates ranging from Adlai Stevenson and John F. Kennedy to Edward Albee and the actor Michael Douglas. Choate had a long honored tradition of not only getting its graduates into Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, but also having over 75% of them graduate in the top half of those classes. Choate, along with Andover and Exeter, were the only schools that the Harvard Admission Office would predict their students would have a higher grade point than at their high school. It is from this tradition of laser focused learning that this SAT prep audiobook comes. The words were first put forth by a legendary teacher, John Joseph, as the core 100. "Get these right and we can move on; but first get these memorized." As the audiobook says, Choate had the confidence to start simply with a foundation in a subject before moving to greater efforts. This is such an audiobook. The SAT words have remained largely the same over 50 years. A comparison to other texts indicates that about 98% of the words have been the same over this period, as an educated listener would expect. After this basic non-intimidating approach, a student can move on to the SAT and GRE 500 Words. But first start at the beginning. With the Core 100 words students will enjoy the speed at which they master this foundation of the language without having to wade through a long audiobook to get to this core knowledge. The very shortness encourages students to relisten to master this core subject. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Deaver Brown.
