Jeff Shaara, America's premier author of military historical fiction, brings us the centerpiece of his epic trilogy of the Second World War. General Dwight Eisenhower once again commands a diverse army that must find its single purpose in the destruction of Hitler's European fortress. His primary subordinates, Omar Bradley and Bernard Montgomery, must prove that this unique blend of Allied armies can successfully confront the might of Adolf Hitler's forces, who have already conquered Western Europe. On the coast of France, German commander Erwin Rommel fortifies and prepares for the coming invasion, acutely aware that he must bring all his skills to bear on a fight his side must win. But Rommel's greatest challenge is to strike the Allies on his front, while struggling behind the lines with the growing insanity of Adolf Hitler, who thwarts the strategies Rommel knows will succeed. Meanwhile, Sergeant Jesse Adams, a no-nonsense veteran of the 82nd Airborne, parachutes with his men behind German lines into a chaotic and desperate struggle. And as the invasion force surges toward the beaches of Normandy, Private Tom Thorne of the 29th Infantry Division faces the horrifying prospects of fighting his way ashore on a stretch of coast more heavily defended than the Allied commanders anticipate - Omaha Beach. From G.I. to general, this story carries the reader through the war's most crucial juncture, the invasion that altered the flow of the war, and, ultimately, changed history. ungekürzt. Maybe a hydrologist can use the latest technology to trace the $5,800 in ransom money found in 1980 to where Cooper landed upstream. Or maybe someone just remembers that odd uncle. (FBI Special Agent Larry Carr) On November 24, 1971, there was little to suggest that the skies above the Pacific Northwest would produce one of the greatest mysteries in American history and a criminal investigation that is still ongoing over 40 years later. However, on the day before Thanksgiving, a man calling himself Dan Cooper boarded Northwest Orient Flight 305 from Portland to Seattle and sat in the rear of the cabin. Shortly after takeoff the man handed a flight attendant warning that he had a bomb and informed her that he was hijacking the plane. Cooper demanded $200,000, several parachutes, and a truck to refuel the plane when it landed in Seattle. Another flight attendant would later inform authorities, “He seemed rather nice. He was never cruel or nasty. He was thoughtful and calm all the time." When the plane landed at Seattle-Tacoma Airport, Cooper’s demands were met, after which he let all of the passengers and most of the crew off. He then told pilot William Scott to fly toward Mexico at no higher than 10,000 feet and at the slowest possible speed, which would also require a refueling stop in Reno, Nevada. About 30 minutes after the plane had taken off, Cooper manually activated the aft air staircase near the back of the cabin and apparently jumped out of the plane shortly after. The plane landed without any problems at Reno about 90 minutes after Cooper had activated the staircase to exit. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Violet Meadow. The sensational true story of Eddie Rickenbacker, America's greatest flying ace. At the turn of the 20th century two new technologies - the car and airplane - took the nation’s imagination by storm as they burst, like comets, into American life. The brave souls that leaped into these dangerous contraptions and pushed them to unexplored extremes became new American heroes: The race car driver and the flying ace. No individual did more to create and intensify these raw new roles than the tall, gangly Eddie Rickenbacker, who defied death over and over with such courage and pluck that a generation of Americans came to know his face better than the president’s. The son of poor, German-speaking Swiss immigrants in Columbus, Ohio, Rickenbacker overcame the specter of his father’s violent death, a debilitating handicap, and, later, accusations of being a German spy, to become the American military ace of aces in World War I and a Medal of Honor recipient. He and his high-spirited, all-too-short-lived pilot comrades, created a new kind of aviation warfare, as they pushed their machines to the edge of destruction - and often over it - without parachutes, radios, or radar. Enduring Courage is the electrifying story of the beginning of America’s love affair with speed - and how one man above all the rest showed a nation the way forward. No simple daredevil, he was an innovator on the racetrack, a skilled aerial dualist and squadron commander, and founder of Eastern Air Lines. Decades after his heroics against the Red Baron’s Flying Circus, he again showed a war-weary nation what it took to survive against nearly insurmountable odds when he and seven others endured a harrowing three-week ordeal adrift without food or water in the Pacific during World War II. For the first time, Enduring Courage peels back the layers of hero to reveal the man himself. With impeccable research and a gripping narrative, John F. Ross tells the unforgettable s ungekürzt. What did Hawaiian Kahuna Morrnah Simeona, Pulitzer-winning poet Gwendolyn Brooks, and the women pilots of the Soviet Union's 588th regiment all have in common? They were all girls who defended goodness, believed in justice, and worked hard to help their communities! Each woman used courage and heart to achieve big things. The Girls Who Could is a fun series of stories about real women who have made a difference in the world through inspired action. By giving children examples of women who are doing amazing things, children can grow up with a template of achievement upon which to grow and expand their own dreams and goals. Fun, rhyming prose helps kids connect easily with the message in each story. The Girl Who Could Heal Your Heart is the fourth audiobook in the Girls Who Could series. In it, we discover the healing power of forgiveness and release. Kahuna Morrnah Simeona was a Hawaiian healer and teacher who traveled the world sharing the modern art of ho'oponopono, or community healing. When we clear our minds of grief, blame, and anger, our hearts become lighter, our days become brighter. The fifth volume in the Girls Who Could series honors not just one girl, but an entire fleet of fierce female aviators. Dubbed "The Night Witches" by their German adversaries, this all-female battalion outflew and outmatched everyone, flying eight or more missions every night in small canvas planes. No parachutes. No fear. Just honest heroines standing up for what was right. The Girls Who Could Fly in the Night encourages your little ones to be upstanders, fight bullies, do good, and shine bright. The Girl Who Could Write and Unite pays tribute to one of the greatest modern American poets, Gwendolyn Brooks. Brooks was the first African American to win a Pulitzer and received more than 70 honorary degrees from universities for writing and teaching. Her story is the sixth audiobook in the Girls Who Could series and teac ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Maya Cointreau.
