Arron Perry. Rob Furlong. Craig Harrison. Legendary snipers. In researching the competition for who had the longest distance kill in military history, the majority of laymen would expect to see a Navy SEAL or a Marine heading the top of the list. A little research, however, shows the top three long-shot kills are Craig Harrison (United Kingdom), Rob Furlong (Canada), and Arron Perry (Canada). The late Chris Kyle, of American Sniper fame, is eighth on the list. There is a South African Special Forces sniper that is sixth on the list whose name is withheld as is a Norwegian Army sniper. Snipers operate under the motto of not boasting about their kills. In the defense of the top three snipers listed above, they have all been outed by the media or their own military. Harrison's name had been released after he made the record-setting kill and had to go into hiding. Furlong and Perry's had similar circumstances with the media after being investigated for conduct unbecoming. This book will take a look at the feats the men above performed on the battlefield as well as the psychological toll that the sniper profession had on their lives. ungekürzt. Language: English. From Emma Newman, the award-nominated author of Between Two Thorns, comes a novel of how one secret withheld to protect humanity's future might be its undoing.... Renata Ghali believed in Lee Suh-Mi's vision of a world far beyond Earth, calling to humanity. A planet promising to reveal the truth about our place in the cosmos, untainted by overpopulation, pollution and war. Ren believed in that vision enough to give up everything to follow Suh-Mi into the unknown. More than 22 years have passed since Ren and the rest of the faithful braved the starry abyss and established a colony at the base of an enigmatic alien structure where Suh-Mi has since resided alone. All that time Ren has worked hard as the colony's 3-D printer engineer, creating the tools necessary for human survival in an alien environment and harbouring a devastating secret. Ren continues to perpetuate the lie forming the foundation of the colony for the good of her fellow colonists, despite the personal cost. Then a stranger appears, far too young to have been part of the first planetfall, a man who bears a remarkable resemblance to Suh-Mi. The truth Ren has concealed since planetfall can no longer be hidden. And its revelation might tear the colony apart.... Read by Emma Newman. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Emma Newman. Getting someone to tell the truth is an essential skill that very few people possess. In the boardroom, the classroom, or our own homes, every day we interact with others and try to get the truth from them. People are often untruthful out of fear of negative consequences associated with divulging information. But if a person is made to forget the long-term outcomes, he or she can be influenced to disclose sensitive information that's being withheld. The aim is to encourage the person to remain in short-term thinking mode, shifting focus away from the long-term ramifications of telling the truth. As former CIA agents and best-selling authors of Spy the Lie, Philip Houston, Mike Floyd, and Susan Carnicero are among the world's best at recognizing deceptive behavior and eliciting the truth from even the most accomplished liars. Get the Truth is a step-by-step guide that empowers readers to elicit the truth from others. It also chronicles the fascinating story of how the authors used a methodology Houston developed to elicit the truth in the counterterrorism and criminal investigation realms and how these techniques can be applied to our daily lives. Using thrilling anecdotes from their careers in counterintelligence, and with easy-to-follow instructions, the authors provide a foolproof means of getting absolutely anybody to give an honest answer. Get the Truth is the easy and effective way to learn how to get the truth every time. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Jeff Gurner. A highly acclaimed novelist now gives us a true epic: a love story that spans 60 years, generations' worth of feuds, and secrets withheld and revealed. The two principal stories at play in Wintering are bound together when the elderly, demented Harry Eide escapes his sickbed and vanishes into the forbidding, northernmost wilderness that surrounds the town of Gunflint, Minnesota - instantly changing the Eide family, and many other lives, forever. He'd done this once before, more than 30 years earlier in 1963, fleeing a crumbling marriage and bringing along Gustav, his 18-year-old son, pitching this audacious, potentially fatal scheme - winter already coming on, in these woods, on these waters - as a reenactment of the ancient voyageurs' journeys of discovery. It's certainly something Gus has never forgotten, nor the Devil's Maw of a river, a variety of beloved (possibly fantastical) maps, the ice floes and waterfalls (neither especially appealing from a canoe), a magnificent bear, the endless portages, a magical abandoned shack, Thanksgiving and Christmas improvised at the far end of the earth, the brutal cold and sheer beauty of it all. And men hunting other men. Now - with his father pronounced dead - Gus relates their adventure in vivid detail to Berit Lovig, who's spent much of her life waiting for Harry, her passionate conviction finally fulfilled over the last two decades. So a middle-aged man rectifying his personal history, an aging lady wrestling with her own and with the entire saga of a town and region they'd helped to form and were in turn relentlessly, unforgettably formed by. ungekürzt. When Petros is severely injured by a hit-and-run driver, no one thinks he will survive. Two of Petros's other children, both physicians, battle Thea and their eccentric brother, Dimitri, by demanding that treatment for their father be withheld. This audiobook is read by the author. A New York Times best seller Serial told only part of the story.... In early 2000, Adnan Syed was convicted and sentenced to life plus 30 years for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee, a high school senior in Baltimore, Maryland. Syed has maintained his innocence, and Rabia Chaudry, a family friend, has always believed him. By 2013, after almost all appeals had been exhausted, Rabia contacted Sarah Koenig, a producer at This American Life, in hopes of finding a journalist who could shed light on Adnan's story. In 2014, Koenig's investigation turned into Serial, a Peabody Award-winning podcast with more than 500 million international listeners. But Serial did not tell the whole story. In this compelling narrative, Rabia Chaudry presents new key evidence that she maintains dismantles the State's case: a potential new suspect, forensics indicating Hae was killed and kept somewhere for almost half a day, and documentation withheld by the State that destroys the cell phone evidence - among many other points - and she shows how fans of Serial joined a crowd-sourced investigation into a case riddled with errors and strange twists. Adnan's Story also shares Adnan's life in prison, and weaves in his personal reflections, including never-before-seen letters. Chaudry, who is committed to exonerating Adnan, makes it clear that justice is yet to be achieved in this much examined case. This audiobook is perfect for listeners interested in true crime and social justice. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Rabia Chaudry. Beloveds, our profession of faith requires we stand upon the word of the Lord. That we walk by faith in all assurance God has provided our needs. That we believe he is the Lord, God Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. Lastly, because we stand, walk, and believe, we receive all the Lord has ordained for us. Nothing will be withheld from all who trust and believe.  In the Morning When I Rise is a testament to the Lord for all he has done and continues to do.  This devotional was inspired by the Holy Spirit and the voice of the Lord that speaks to me each morning. In the morning when I rise, I gleefully respond to his call to rise and seize the day to walk by his guiding voice and to see the glory of the Lord upon my life.  In the Morning When I Rise is my response to all who have asked how I have so much faith and trust in this unseen God when all manner of foolishness is afoot. I have faith because he is always with me and us. His love for me grants and fulfills my every need. His voice provides comfort and peace and my eyes are fixed upon his glory, which rests, rules, and reigns supremely upon this earth.  Yes, foolishness is everywhere; so is the Lord, and “[G]reater is He who is in me than is in the World” 1 John 4:4. He is greater than the defeated enemy about us. He is my reason, my portion, and my voice. May this journey provide you the same peace, love, and joy that he brings to me each morning. ungekürzt. This book, the last work of Charles Dickens to be published, is peculiarly personal to the writer. The manuscript was entirely handwritten and kept in his home solely for the use of his own children. It was never intended for publication, but rather written in a form which Dickens thought most suitable for his own youngsters, and they might have a permanent record of their father's thoughts. After his death the manuscript passed into the possession of his sister-in-law, Miss Georgina Hogarth, and when she died in 1917 it passed to Sir Henry Fielding Dickens, who was Charles Dickens' son. Sir Henry was averse to publishing the manuscript in his own lifetime, but saw no reason why it should be withheld from the world's children after his death. The Life of Our Lord first appeared in serial form in 1934. In this book, Charles Dickens tells the story of the life of Jesus Christ in a beautiful and simple way, so that it can be understood by young children. He combines his own skillful wordsmanship with a deep understanding of how the child's mind works. He is at pains to explain words which might be unfamiliar, but which he wishes his children to learn, such as parable and Saviour. He also pauses to describe locusts and camels and other creatures which his London-bred children might not recognise. Particularly impressive is his retelling and interpretation of the parables, which he makes accessible in language which today's child will easily understand. The world's most beloved stories, retold by the world's greatest storyteller, to the people he loved the most. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Cathy Dobson.
