Erst nachdem er seine Probleme mit Alkohol überwunden hat beginnt er mit seiner nicht einfachen Rückkehr in den Journalismus. 1984 zieht er schließlich in die Eifel, wo er einige Jahre später mit seiner Reihe von Eifel-Krimis beginnt, für die er 1996 sogar den Hauptpreis beim Eifel-Literatur-Festival gewann.

Jahrhunderts bis zum Ersten Weltkrieg von Grund auf. Auch die Landschaft wandelte sich: Durch die Intensivierung der Landwirtschaft, die Verstaatlichung und den Schutz des Waldes veränderten sich ihre Struktur und ihr Erscheinungsbild.Die «schöne Schweizer Landschaft» entsprach nicht mehr dem unberührten Ideal des 18. Jahrhunderts. Doch die Sehnsucht nach jenem idyllischen Anblick verband sich nun mit dem Wunsch nach Realismus und Modernität. Im künstlerischen Schaffen zählten zwar weiterhin die älteren Vorbilder wie die holländischen Veduten aus dem 17. Jahrhundert sowie die Strömungen, die von den grossen europäischen Zentren wie Paris und München ausgingen. Doch nie zuvor waren die Freundschaften und der kulturelle Austausch zwischen den Schweizer Malern so wichtig wie damals.
