Ball Don't Lie , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 418min
Newbery Award-winning author Matt de la Pena's Ball Don't Lie, about basketball, "is a must-read" (The Bulletin). Sticky is a beat-around-the-head foster kid with nowhere to call home but the street and an outer shell so tough that no one will take him in. He started out life so far behind the pack that the finish line seems nearly unreachable. He's a white boy living and playing in a world where he doesn't seem to belong. But Sticky can ball. And basketball might just be his ticket out, if he can only realize that he doesn't have to be the person everyone else expects him to be. Matt de la Peña's breakout urban masterpiece, Ball Don't Lie takes place where the street and the court meet and where a boy can be anything if he puts his mind to it. ungekürzt. Language: English. Stalky and Co. , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 418min
Stalky & Co. is a book, published in 1899 (following serialization in the Windsor Magazine) by Rudyard Kipling, about adolescent boys at a British boarding school. It is a collection of linked short stories in format, with some information about the charismatic Stalky character in later life. The character Beetle, one of the main trio, is partly based on Kipling himself. Stalky is based on Lionel Dunsterville, M'Turk is based on George Charles Beresford, and Mr. King is based on William Carr Crofts. The school, which is referred to as the College or the Coll., is based on the United Services College in Devon, which Kipling attended. The stories have elements of revenge, the macabre (dead cats), bullying, and violence and hints about sex, making them far from childish or idealized, unlike the typical school story. The critic Edmund Wilson, in The Wound and the Bow, was both shocked and uncomprehending about them. For example, Beetle pokes fun at an earlier, more earnest, boys' book, Eric, or Little by Little, thus flaunting his more worldly outlook. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Gideon Emery. The Venus Complex , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 418min
A man rises out of an abyss of frustration and rage and creates works of art out of destruction, goddesses out of mere dental hygienists, and beauty out of death. It’s also about the sickness and obsession that is love. Enter into Michael’s world through the pages of his personal journal, where every diseased thought, disturbing dream, politically incorrect rant, and sexually explicit murder highlights his journey from zero to psycho. "After purposefully killing his wife in a car accident, art professor Michael Friday finds his perspective on things has become a little...warped. Via his personal journal, we’re allowed into his mind to slowly watch the disintegration of it, bearing witness to his unnerving sexual cravings and ideas about killing: intertwined with the paintings he loves so much. As Michael writes, he’s 'turning into something dead'; but at the same time he wants to be somebody, not a nobody. Using his diary to rant against the world in general - including everything from banks to popular culture, from national holidays like Christmas to politics - he reveals more about the big, gaping hole in his own life. But as the novel goes on the first person narrative tensely builds up, displaying his dark dreams and innermost thoughts: his way of filling that void and presenting his grisly 'works of art' to the world. As intelligent and cultured as Hannibal, easily as disturbing as American Psycho and infinitely less reassuring than Dexter, this is a sexually-charged real life horror story that will definitely stay with you.” (Paul Kane, award-winning horror and fantasy writer)“Wilde is one of the finest purveyors of erotically charged horror fiction around.” (Fangoria)“The Venus Complex is a delicious collision of noir thriller and visceral horror. Whip-smart devious and jolting!” (Jonathan Maberry, Bram Stoker Award winner and New York Times best-selling author of Code Zero and V-Wa ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Doug Bradley. The Brothers Jade , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 418min
The world of Mythas is in transition. The old gods are near forgotten and a palpable tension hangs in the air. This is especially apparent to two young magic-casting brothers, Lawrence and Hesikiah, raised by a father who was a War Mage of the highest caliber and a mother whose shrewd diplomacy helped to forge the alliances of the five great nations to the West. Even with a lineage such as this, neither brother could have imagined the role they and the other valiant heroes soon to join them would play on the world stage. Or that their coming had been foretold in a series of ancient prophecies. Pro Se Productions presents The Brothers Jade, an exciting tale of fantasy and magic by author Don Thomas. Set on the landscape of his own imagination, Thomas creates a cast of characters that not only stand sword to shield with other fantasy creations, but also carry humanity in their every action. The Brothers Jade is as much a story of family and heroism and loyalty as it is of monsters, mages, and battle. Both a quest tale and a rousing adventures, The Brothers Jade brings out another aspect that is often overlooked in fantasy works. It is also a coming of age tale sat against the stark backdrop of intrigue and adventure, action and danger. A rousing adventure for any fan of Fantasy. The Brothers Jade by Don Thomas from Pro Se Productions, the leader in New Pulp and Genre Fiction. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Brian Held, Jr.. Played!: Shamwell Tales , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 418min
All the world's a stage...but life doesn't come with a script. Posh boy Tristan Goldsmith has one last summer of freedom before he joins the family firm in New York - no more farting around on stage, as his father puts it. But the classically trained actor can't resist when the Shamwell Amateur Dramatics Society begs him to take a leading role in their production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. As an added incentive, he'll be giving private acting lessons to a gorgeous local handyman who's been curiously resistant to Tristan's advances. As a late-diagnosed dyslexic still struggling with literacy, Con Izzard's never dared to act before. With arrogant yet charming Tristan helping him with his lines, he finally has his chance to shine. But Con's determined not to start a romance with a man he's convinced only wants a casual fling. Tristan's never been one to back down from a challenge, especially when he realizes his attraction to the tall, muscular handyman isn't just physical. Just as he thinks he's finally won Con's heart - and given his own in return - disaster strikes with a slip of the tongue that shatters Con's trust and sends him running for cover. This show may be over before the curtains even opened. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Mark Steadman. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/096274/bk_acx0_096274_sample.mp3.
