What was old is new again The old adage is so tired that nobody takes its proper measure: all people hear is the word old , when the important one is new . Making new things out of old things is an act of alchemy. The proof is in this fifth album no rest for the wicked of Perpignan which is blown right open here and there by a few very contemporary guests. After the opener, Ouverture , with its almost surf-like guitars, comes Le Premier Jour , where Lionel Limiñana talks about his rock baptism with the punks, the mods, the skinheads and the Lambrettas of his youth in the South of France. What comes just after is the seismic shock of Istanbul is Sleepy : the Imprimatur of Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre is simply enormous. Then comes Emmanuelles Seigner s super sexy tornado on the title track, and Dimanche follows, with Bertrand Belin. Lionel sees him as a French Nick Cave who writes songs that resemble films. . The Gift features Peter Hook who scrapes his bass guitar again here, obviously a song reminiscent of an early period New Order. Finally, the Limiñanas on their own send out an instrumental cavalcade with a furious beat, like a Kraut Morricone, Motorizzati Marie followed by Pink Flamingos , introduced with psych rock pads played backwards forming a vaporous song bathed in acoustic arpeggios. A respite in the album before the fuzz and the abyssal bass of Trois Bancs violently shakes the ghost of Gainsbourg: an electroshock in talk over. And to close the scene, a love message: De La Part Des Copains , its organ, its tambourine, its quaver and its brass place it in the classic soundtrack category revered by the band. An ideal conclusion for this incredible faultless record. The rock n roll epiphany thus continues. 'Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music.' Don't let the flannel shirts and short skirts deter you from getting close to the stage at a Real Be Easys show. The 18 - 35 music aficionado hipsters make up only about 50% of the audience. The other half are a mix of classic rock fans who wish the 60's never ended, or Alternative Rockers that still have Nirvana and Stone Temple Pilots CD's in their Stereos. That being said if all the bands from the 90's and the 60's had an orgy without protection, Real Be Easys would be the resulting child. Similar to a newborn baby, the tunes of Real Be Easys are sticky or "catchy" and really hard to get out... of your head. In 2009 Real Be Easys plan to release 2 full length LP's of psychedelic and experimental Alternative-Retro-Rock. Very heavily influenced by Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dandy Warholes, Beck, Portishead, the Beatles, STP, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, & Prince. A far cry from funky rock tracks like "Ipso Facto," off their previous release Lost Paradise, which reached number 1 on Mike Pinder's top 10 songs of 2008 on Indie-Music.com. Also "Schizophrenic man" off the Real Be Easys Mushroom EP received honorable mention in Billboards 2008 independent song competition. Evan Jaffee songwriter/singer/guitarist of Real Be Easys has dedicated his life to perfecting the art of writing hit songs with Universal Appeal. With a catalogue of songs that grows like cells multiply, in the past 5 months Evan has signed licensing deals with 7 different companies. This being a fulltime job for Evan, he spends day and night honing his songwriting craft by constantly communicating with fans and coming up with ways to make the online experience with the band more interactive. It is the goal of Real Be Easys to give our fans greater and faster access to our shows, lives and thoughts. The Easys have grown accustomed to roaming the road, humbled by the notion that another crowd in another town off another interstate may still be out there, waiting to be beguiled. The Easys have cut their teeth on the molten crag that is the urban pavement of New York City, before carrying their raucous on to whatever locale would tolerate their madness, from Philly to Bal'more, from Brooklyn to Harrisburg. Since their last live performance Real Be Easys have turned their practice space into a recording studio and have begun a freethinking music experiment to create great songs.
