Michio Kaku, Bestsellerautor

If the desert doesn't kill them, the city will. Two teenagers come together in a future where staying alive is the only ambition. Here in a vast lost valley, society has split into two: the Wanderers, who team together to battle against the elements and each other in the harsh world of the desert, and those who live in the pyramid-city of Arcone, whose closed environment and tightly controlled society enable them to maintain a more civilized existence in the face of an environmentally devastated planet. Conflict is inevitable.... Kean is a Wanderer, adopted into a team that has protected him since he was a child. Essa lives with her parents in the pyramid, and chafes at the mental and physical restrictions the government enforces to protect its people. But when a rogue Wanderer plans an attack on the city to gain its resources for his people, Kean and Essa's paths collide with an impact that will alter their lives forever. The next in a line of post-apocalyptic coming-of-age stories that began with Lois Lowry's masterpiece, The Giver, and moved on through the Hunger Games series, Wanderer is a journey of danger, growth, friendship, and hope for a new generation. ungekürzt. Emma Goldman's reputation during her lifetime was, in part, created by her autobiography "Living My Life." This book reexamines the creation of that auto biography, noting that many other people were involved in the project-especially Demi Coleman, who as Goldman's secretary was a major part of the daily writing process, and anarchist Alexander Berkman, her influential editor. These people are vital, as Goldman's work needs to be seen not as an autobiography and objective historical tool, but instead as a much-influenced and highly censored source. C. Brid Nicholson is an assistant professor of history at Kean University in Union, New Jersey.

The Ology of Isms is a Nigerian twist on Hans Christian Anderson's classic fairy tale "The Emperor's New Clothes", written by Nigerian playwright Emmanuel Adeleye. This radio theater production is produced by Joe Bevilacqua and features sound effects, music, and a full cast. Emmanuel Adeleye was born in Nigeria in 1961. After graduating high school, he worked with the Nigerian Television Authority and with the Federation Radio Corporation of Nigeria as a playwright, actor, and artist. He then came to the United States, where he studied theater at Kean College (now Kean University) in Union, New Jersey. In 1981 Adeleye teamed with Joe Bevilacqua to create The Ology of Isms, his first radio play ever presented in the United States. It first aired on WKNJ Radio and later on Sirius-XM Satellite Radio. Joe Bevilacqua, also known as Joe Bev, is primarily known as a radio theater dramatist. However, his career has taken him into every aspect of show business, including stage, film, and television as a producer, director, writer, actor, and even cartoonist. In 1971 Bevilacqua's father bought him a cassette recorder on which he created his first audio story, Willoughby and the Professor. He acted all the voices himself at the age of 12. In 1975 Daws Butler, the voice of Yogi Bear and many Hanna-Barbera and Jay Ward cartoon characters, dubbed himself Joe Bev's personal mentor after hearing a 120-minute cassette of Bev's Willoughby improvisations. Since 1980 Bevilacqua has produced many award-winning radio programs for National Public Radio, Sirius-XM Satellite Radio, and others. Language: English. Narrator: Peter Cummings. The author of the best seller The Disappearing Spoon reveals the secret inner workings of the brain through strange-but-true stories. Early studies of the human brain used a simple method: Wait for misfortune to strike - strokes, seizures, infectious diseases, horrendous accidents - and see how victims coped. In many cases their survival was miraculous, if puzzling. Observers were amazed by the transformations that took place when different parts of the brain were destroyed, altering victims' personalities. Parents suddenly couldn't recognize their own children. Pillars of the community became pathological liars. Some people couldn't speak but could still sing. In The Tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeons, Sam Kean travels through time with stories of neurological curiosities: Phantom limbs, Siamese twin brains, viruses that eat patients' memories, blind people who see through their tongues. He weaves these narratives together to create a story of discovery that reaches back to the 1500s and the high-profile jousting accident that inspired this book's title.* With the lucid, masterful explanations and razor-sharp wit his fans have come to expect, Kean explores the brain's secret passageways and recounts the forgotten tales of the ordinary people whose struggles, resilience, and deep humanity made neuroscience possible. *"The Tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeons" refers to the case of French king Henri II, who in 1559 was lanced through the skull during a joust, resulting in one of the most significant cases in neuroscience history. For hundreds of years scientists have gained important lessons from traumatic accidents and illnesses, and such misfortunes still represent their greatest resource for discovery. The fascinating science and history of the air we breathe. It's invisible. It's ever present. Without it, you would die in minutes. And it has an epic story to tell. In Caesar's Last Breath, New York Times best-selling author Sam Kean takes us on a journey through the periodic table, around the globe, and across time to tell the story of the air we breathe, which, it turns out, is also the story of earth and our existence on it. With every breath, you literally inhale the history of the world. On the Ides of March, 44 BC, Julius Caesar died of stab wounds on the Senate floor, but the story of his last breath is still unfolding; in fact you're probably inhaling some of it now. Of the sextillions of molecules entering or leaving your lungs at this moment, some might well bear traces of Cleopatra's perfumes, German mustard gas, particles exhaled by dinosaurs or emitted by atomic bombs, even remnants of stardust from the universe's creation. Tracing the origins and ingredients of our atmosphere, Kean reveals how the alchemy of air reshaped our continents, steered human progress, powered revolutions, and continues to influence everything we do. Along the way we'll swim with radioactive pigs, witness the most important chemical reactions humans have discovered, and join the crowd at the Moulin Rouge for some of the crudest performance art of all time. Lively, witty, and filled with the astounding science of ordinary life, Caesar's Last Breath illuminates the science stories swirling around us every second.
