Data Analytics in Football (eBook, PDF)
Data Analytics in Football provides students, researchers and coaches with a firm grounding in the principles of modern performance analysis. It offers an insight into the use of positional data, exploring how it can be collected, modelled, analysed and interpreted. Introducing cutting-edge methods, the book challenges long-held assumptions and encourages a new way of thinking about football analysis. Based on data collected from the German Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League, the book seeks to define the role of positional data in football match analysis by exploring topics such as: What is positional data analysis and how did it emerge from conventional match analysis? How can positional data be collected and which technologies can be used? What are the benefits of a data-driven approach to decision making in football? What Key Performance Indicators based on positional data should be used? How can traditional match analysis be complemented by using positional data and advanced KPIs? How can these new methods evolve in the future? Accessibly written, packed full of examples from elite football and supplemented with expert interviews (Ralf Rangnick, Urs Siegenthaler and others), Data Analytics in Football is a thought-provoking, rigorously evidence-based guide to the use of data analytics in football performance analysis. As such, it is a vital resource for any student, researcher or coach interested in performance analysis and skill acquisition, or anyone interested in football more generally.- Shop: buecher

Gurudev's Drumming Legacy (eBook, PDF)
The 1903 Mrdang aur Tabla Vadanpaddhati is a revelatory text that has never been translated or analysed. It is a manual for playing the two most important drums of North Indian (Hindustani) music, the pakhavaj (mrdang) and the tabla. Owing to its relative obscurity, it is a source that has never been discussed in the literature on Hindustani music. Its author, Gurudev Patwardhan, was Vice Principal of V.D. Paluskar's first music school in Lahore from its inception in 1901 to 1908. Professor James Kippen provides the first translation of this immensely important text and examines its startling implications for rhythmic and metric theory. It is the earliest work on Indian drumming to contain a notation sufficiently precise to allow definitive reconstruction. The compositions are of considerable musical interest, for they can be readily realized on the tabla or pakhavaj. Kippen sets the work and objectives of the original author in the context of a rich historical, social and political background. By also discussing radical differences in the second edition of 1938, published by Gurudev's nephew, the vocalist Vinayakrao Patwardhan, Kippen illuminates the process by which 'tabla theory' was being created in the early 20th century. Both Patwardhans were enthusiastic supporters of Paluskar's nationalist imperatives, and active participants in his drive to institutionalize music, codify and publish notations of it, and promote a modern, Hindu vision of India wherein its identity could once again be linked to a glorious golden age in distant antiquity.- Shop: buecher

Comic Empires: Imperialism in Cartoons, Caricature, and Satirical Art
Comic empires is a unique collection of new research exploring the relationship between imperialism and cartoons, caricature, and satirical art. Edited by leading scholars across both fields, the volume provides new perspectives on well-known events, and also illuminates little-known players in the 'great game' of empire. The volume contains a wealth of contributions from noted as well as emerging experts. Keren Zdafee and Stefanie Wichhart both examine Egypt (in the turbulent 1930s and during the Suez crisis, respectively); David Olds and Robert Phiddian explore the decolonisation of cartooning in Australia from the 1960s; Fiona Halloran, the foremost expert on Thomas Nast (1840-1902), examines his engagement with US westward expansion; the overseas imperialism of the United States is analysed by Albert D. Pionke and Frederick Whiting, as well as Stephen Tufnell; Shaoqian Zhang takes a close look at Chinese and Japanese propagandising during the conflict of 1937-45; and David Lockwood interrogates the attitudes of David Low (1891-1963) towards British India. Some of the finest comic art of the period is deployed as evidence, and examined seriously - in its own right - for the first time. Readers will find cartoons on subjects as diverse as the Pacific, Cuba, and Cyprus, from Punch, Judge, and Puck. Egyptian, German, French, and Australian comic art also enriches this innovative collection. Accessible to students of history at all levels, Comic empires is a major addition to the Studies in Imperialism series, as well as standing alone as an innovative and significant contribution to the ever-growing field of comics studies.- Shop: buecher

Temporal Markers in Ghanaian Pidgin English (eBook, PDF)
Bachelor Thesis from the year 2021 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: B, University of Cape Coast, language: English, abstract: This study looks at how tense and aspect is realized in Ghanaian Pidgin English and compares it to Standard English. This research examines temporal markers in Ghanaian Pidgin English as well. The theoretical framework that serves as a bedrock for the analysis is the superstate and substrate theory. The methodology comprises recordings of conversation of students of the University of Cape Coast and excerpts from television programmes. The research found out that the bare form of the verb is used to realize pastime, present time and perfective meaning. While preverbal markers like "go" and "dey" are used to accompany the bare form of the verb to realize present time, future time and progressive meaning. The implication of these findings are that they contribute to studies in World English, studies in pidgins/creoles and studies in temporality across languages. The work shows that GPE has temporal markers that are crucial in organizing messages. The study is guided by the following questions: 1. What temporal markers exist in Ghanaian Pidgin English? 2. What temporal meanings do they realize? Firstly, the work deals with the background to the study, research questions, purpose and significance of the study and other relevant introductory issues. Afterwards, it will look at related literature, theoretical framework and other important issues. It will introduce the methodology for the study. Lastly, the research data will be analysed and assessed.- Shop: buecher

Introduction to Avionics Systems (eBook, PDF)
Introduction to Avionic Systems, Third Edition explains the basic principles and underlying theory of the core avionic systems in modern civil and military aircraft, comprising the pilot's head-up and head-down displays, data entry and control systems, fly by wire flight control systems, inertial sensor and air data systems, navigation systems, autopilots and flight management systems. The implementation and integration of these systems with current (2010) technology is explained together with the methods adopted to meet the very high safety and integrity requirements. The systems are analysed from the physical laws governing their behaviour, so that the system design and response can be understood and the performance examined. Worked examples are given to show how the theory can be applied and an engineering "feel" gained from a simplified model. Physical explanations are also set out and the text is structured so that readers can "fast forward" through the maths, if they so wish. Introduction to Avionic Systems, Third Edition meets the needs of graduates, or equivalent, entering the aerospace industries who have been educated in a wide range of disciplines, for example, electronic engineering, computing science, mathematics, physics, mechanical and aeronautical engineering. It also meets the needs of engineers at all levels working in particular areas of avionics who require an understanding of other avionic systems. Technology is continually advancing and this new third edition has been revised and updated and the presentation improved, where appropriate, The systems coverage has also been increased and a new section on helicopter flight control added.- Shop: buecher

Internet of Things for Human-Centered Design (eBook, PDF)
The book presents the state of the art of the Internet of Things (IoT), applied to Human-Centered Design (HCD) projects addressed to ageing users, from the perspective of health, care and well-being. The current focus on the ageing population is opening up new opportunities for the development of niche solutions aimed at the niche category of older users who are beginning to experience physical and cognitive decline but are still independent and need to maintain their autonomy for as long as possible. The combination between the needs expressed by older users and the opportunities offered by the recent innovative technologies related to the Internet of Things allows research institutions, stakeholders, and academia to target and design new solutions for older users, safeguarding their well-being, health, and care, improving their quality of life. This book discusses and analyses the most recent services, products, systems and environments specifically conceived for older users, in order to enhance health, care, well-being and improve their quality of life. This approach is coherent with the percept of AAL or enhanced living environment, looking to the users' comfort, autonomy, engagement and healthcare. The book describes and analyses aspects of HCD with older users looking to the emerging technologies, products, services, and environments analysed in their actual application in different areas, always concerning the design for the elderly related to the IoT, just as the development of biomonitoring devices, tools for activity recognition and simulation, creation of smart living environments, solutions for their autonomy, assistance and engagement enhancing health, care and wellbeing. The book is intended for researchers, designers, engineers, and practitioners in healthcare to connect academia, stakeholders, and research institutions to foster education, research and innovation.- Shop: buecher

The Missional Free Church: Perspectives for Free Church Development in a Post-Christian Context] Classical Free Churches emerged as the antitypical counterpart to established churches within a Christian society. Hence, they traditionally operated in a »mode of revivalism«, primarily reaching those who had already been religiously socialized to a significant degree. At the same time, Free Churches developed the natural tendency to define their ecclesiological and missional identity in opposition to other Christian groups. In a secular age, however, in which the former reality of Christian culture is fading, these conventional procedures are no longer conducive for the accomplishment of Free Church mission. In this study, the current predicament of Free Church ecclesiology and missiology in a post-Christian society has been analysed. Through extensive discussion of quantitative and qualitative data, several assumptions that underlie Free Church (revivalistic) missiology have been scrutinized. Eventually, several perspectives for a sustainable, hopeful and yet realistic missional practice for Free Churches in a post-Christian context are pointed out.- Shop: buecher

Making All Things New (eBook, ePUB)
Christian Psychology is based on the knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, not on the knowledge of ourselves. It is not the study of human nature analysed and expounded, but the study of the new life that is born in us through the Redemption of our Lord, and the only Standard of that new life is our Lord Himself; He is formed in us by regeneration (Galatians i. 15-16). We are apt to start with the way we are made naturally and to transfer our reasonings on that to Jesus Christ, inferring that to understand ourselves is to understand Him. In Christian Psychology we have not to introspect as we do in natural psychology; we have to accept the revelations given to us in and through our Lord Jesus Christ; that is, we must take all our bearings from the Son of God, not from our natural wits. We have not to study and understand ourselves; but to understand the manifestation in us of the life of the Son of God Who became Son of Man, the Lord Jesus Christ. According to the Bible, there are only two Men-Adam and Jesus Christ, and God deals with them as the representatives of the human race, not as individuals. All the members of the human race are grouped round these two Men. The first Adam is called 'the son of God'; the last Adam is the Son of God, and we are made sons of God by the last Adam. The Christian is neither Adam nor Jesus Christ, the Christian is a new man in Christ Jesus. The first Adam and the last Adam are the only two Men according to God's norm, and they both came into this world direct from the hand of God.- Shop: buecher
