One of our finest narrative historians, and journalist for the Sunday Times and Literary Review, Lawrence James, has written a genuinely new biography of Winston Churchill, set within a fully detailed historical context, but solely focusing on his relationship with the British Empire. As a young army officer in the late 19th century, Churchill's first experience of the Empire was serving in conflicts in India, South Africa and the Sudan. His attitude towards the Empire at the time was the stereotypical Victorian paternalistic approach - a combination of feeling responsible and feeling superior. Conscious even then of his political career ahead, Churchill's natural benevolence towards the Empire was occasionally overruled for political reasons, and he found himself reluctantly supporting - or at least not publicly condemning - British atrocities. As a politician he consistently relied on the Empire for support during crises, but was angered by any demands for nationalisation. He held what many would regard today as racist views, in that he felt that some nationalities were superior to others, but he didn't regard those positions as fixed. His (some might say obsequious) relationship with America reflected that view. America was a former colony where the natives had become worthy to rule themselves, but - he felt - still had that tie to Britain. Thus he overlooked the frequently expressed American view that the Empire was a hangover from a bygone era of colonisation, and reflected poorly on Britain's ability to conduct herself as a political power in the current world order. This outmoded attitude was one of the reasons the British voters rejected him after a Second World War, in which - it was universally felt - he had led the country brilliantly. His attitude remained Victorian in a world that was shaping up very differently. However, it would be a mistake to consider Churchill merely as an anachronistic soldier. He grasped the ungekürzt. The Children of Now is a groundbreaking work that shows that a large number of kids come into the world bearing inherent gifts that are beyond strange - they are telepathic, understand subtle energies, and/or have amazing psychic abilities. Many of them remember where they were before they came to Earth and often can describe past lives. Many doctors mislabel them as autistic, ADD, ADHD, or suggest other behavioral difficulties. More than half the time, these doctors are wrong. The Children of Now are not defective - they are differently functional. We are doing ourselves and the world a great disservice by not acknowledging these amazing children and their special gifts. A surprising percentage of these children carry within themselves wisdom far beyond most adults. The phenomenon is very real, and more and more of these highly evolved children enter our world every day. The Children of Now offers not only genuine stories of many children who have brought amazing talents into our world, but also practical, easy solutions to assist society in supporting and nurturing these gifted - not defective - children and their families, rather than labeling, segregating, and condemning them. Fascinating to anyone with an open mind, and life-illuminating for parents with these incredible kids, Meg offers detailed answers derived from counseling real kids in real families. The Children of Now is a must-listen for every parent, teacher, caregiver, and child advocate. In it you'll discover: Why our children's DNA is different from previous generations' The traits and needs of the Crystalline Children The Children of the Stars and why they are here Real stories of real children as Dr. Meg helps them and their families search for answers Why these kids are exhibiting telepathy, telekinesis, healing abilities, and more How to help the Children of Now at home, at school, and ungekürzt. The Lord Jesus said: I will build my ekklesia (Matt 16:18). It has been a conspiracy of satanic proportion where Christians have been tricked into thinking what the Lord wants is “church”. One Ekklesia is not condemning the churches of today, but it's bringing a completely new perspective relating to the One Body of believers God is building. The time has come for a much-overdue work on ecclesiology. By tackling biblical passages concerning God’s eternal purpose through illuminating exegesis of Scriptures, One Ekklesia unveils a fresh, inspiring, and motivating vision. Simultaneously, a radical approach is revealed to make this vision practical from day to day for every single believer no matter their station in life. One Ekklesia is not about how to improve your church, leave your church, or to start a better church. Rather, its vision and practice is to fulfill the Lord’s prayer for His people (whether attending church or not) to be ONE, so the world will believe. It is a practical oneness of diverse believers impacting the world. This will ignite the holy fire of God, spreading uncontrollably...the next and final revival. Each chapter of One Ekklesia is impactful - you will not want to pause this book! Those who have reviewed its contents are not only numerous - they are entrenched in the evangelization of the world in vibrant evangelical commitment to the Eternal Life, Truth of Scripture, and the Glory of His Service. This is a clarion call for radical Christianity which turned the world upside down in the first century! This is NOT a text on ecumenism where truth is compromised for a superficial unity - no, this is the work of the Spirit in the hearts and lives of those committed to following the Lamb of God and being the answer to our Lord’s prayer in John 17: That they all may be one...that the world may be believe the Father sent the Son! ungekürzt. The final book in the Soldier Son series, from the author of the Tawny Man and Farseer trilogies, following on from the best-selling Shaman’s Crossing and Forest Mage. The people of Getty's town remember the death of their cemetery soldier vividly. They remember believing him guilty of unspeakable crimes, condemning him, and then watching as other men of his unit beat him until he no longer drew breath. But Nevare Burvelle didn't die that day, though everyone believes they saw it happen. He was cornered by a power far more intractable than an angry mob. When he was a boy, the magic of the Specks - the dapple-skinned tribes of the frontier forests - claimed Nevare as a saviour; severing his soul in two, naming his stolen half Soldier's Boy and shaping him into a weapon to halt the Gernian expansion into their lands and save their beloved ancestor trees. Until now Nevare has defied the magic, unable to accept his traitorous fate. But the magic has won: It has extinguished his once golden future, devastated his family and has now turned his own people against him. Faced with endangering the only loved-ones he has left, Nevare has no choice but to surrender to its will and enter the forest. But surrendering to his Speck destiny is only the beginning of his trials. Before he submits completely, Nevare makes one desperate last attempt to deter the Gernians from the Barrier Mountains without causing them harm. But the magic accepts no compromise. Exhausted, Nevare can no longer suppress his traitorous Speck self, Soldiers Boy. Losing control, he becomes a prisoner in his own body; able only to watch helplessly as his other half takes Soldier's Boy is determined to stop the Gernian expansion at all cost, and unlike Nevare, he has no love, nor sympathy for his spirit-twin's world. ungekürzt. How did the first believers in Jesus know that the Gospel was true? Acts 17:11 says, "The Bereans…received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” But which “Scriptures” were they examining? Paul was teaching at a Jewish synagogue, so the scriptures were the Tanakh, which we call the Old Testament. Thus, to be "true", everything Paul said had to agree with the Old Testament! Understanding the Foundations is a 15-part Bible study that examines the New Testament as the first believers in Jesus would have. When we recognize that the Old Testament is the foundation of the New Testament, the "confusing passages" become clear and seeming contradictions vanish. We can then see the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation as a single, uninterrupted story of God’s plan for mankind with no contradictions, no changes of plan, and nothing is obsolete. Every chapter is inspired of God and directly relevant to our lives. As Paul said, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” We examine the Sabbath, clean and unclean food, judging others, covenants, the Father Heart of God and why it is difficult for Jewish people to recognize Jesus as their messiah, Yeshua. There are also chapters on the Feasts of The Lord, or Moedim, including Passover, First Fruits, Unleavened Bread, Pentecost, the Day of Trumpets, the Day of Atonement and Tabernacles. Far from being merely, "interesting Jewish stuff", you will discover that God's entire prophetic plan is revealed in the calendar that He gave His people…both past and future! Like the scriptures, this book may be convicting but never condemning. Our goal is encouragement. In a world that rejects all absolutes and says we must not question or “judge”, God says, “Test everything…ho ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Richard A. Arendt. The controversy over filmmaker Jonas Mekas's memories of his WWII Lithuanian youth are delicately and humanely approached in this book-length essay by a Mekas cinephile.Stemming from a New York Review of Books article by a Jewish historian condemning the widely-beloved Jonas Mekas, known as the 'Godfather of American avant-garde cinema', this essayistic, self-reflective, and analytic book flowers into an inquiry about memory and forgetting; the moral compass of the future that cannot find its bearing in the past; the ability of art to witness; and how to write the history of events too traumatic for a just accounting. Perpetrator and victim, bystander and accomplice, those who testify and those who refuse, the traumatized and those who dare not speak of the dead. These are among the vantage points considered in Shiver of Memory, which addresses audiences through the microcosm of one exiled filmmaker's life and the traces of his memory. Examining Mekas's poetry, autobiographical writing, and films, Delpeut travels back and forth between Mekas's boyhood in a Soviet-occupied borderland, where his first picture was reputedly destroyed by the passing Soviet army, to his youth in German-occupied territory during war and genocide — working as a poet and for the Resistance yet as an editor of an anti-Semitic-inflected newspaper — to his life as young Lithuanian filmmaker, Fluxus artist, and immigrant to the United States who became obsessed with recording the details of everyday life so that they might be relived in all their beauty and contradiction through the magical medium of film. [Read more]Writes Peter Delpeut, "Reduction is the most virulent accomplice of moral judgment. What the 'Mekas case' taught me above all is that the moral compass can easily run wild, confused by all those magnetic fields of memory that surround it. So this has turned out to be a very personal essay, in which my quest is central. Every change of perspective triggers a different moral judgment. In a world that is increasingly trying to force us to come up with unequivocal answers, this may be a consoling message.”Author and filmmaker Delpeut was heavily influenced by Mekas's films and the Anthology Film Archives that Mekas founded. He revolves the prism of Mekas's life to shine a light on the central operations of memory and how Mekas's filmography interfaced with a barely-spoken-of trauma. Mekas's recollections of his WWII youth, interrogated by Michael Casper in the NYRB, become stepping stones for Delpeut over a dark lake enshrouded in mystery with no bottom but a sure number of victims from Mekas's provincial area: the 2400 Jewish men, women and children "herded together in the center of Birzai and taken in small groups to the Astravas forest, not far from the town on the shore of the lake” and murdered on August 8, 1941.While Mekas never participated in the horrors, questions remain about what he knew and what he refused to let himself know, as well as what his artist's soul necessitated that he forget in order to live.
