White women are one of the most influential demographics in America - we are the largest voting bloc, with purchasing power that exceeds anybody else’s, and when we unify to demand change, we are a force with which to be reckoned.    Yet, so many of us sit idly on the sidelines, opting out of raising our hands to do, learn, and engage in ways that could make a difference. Why?   White American women are no monolith. Yet, as Women’s March national organizer Jenna Arnold has learned over the past few years criss-crossing the US in conversations with White women about their identity and role in the country, we do possess common characteristics - ones that get in the way of us becoming more engaged as citizens. We're so focused on checking off our to-do lists, or so afraid of getting it wrong, or so busy trying to avoid conflict, that we are actively avoiding the urgent conversations we need to have.   We are confused about how we got here and unsure how to do better.    Raising Our Hands is the reckoning cry for white women. It asks us to step up and join the new front lines of the fight against complacency - in our homes, in our behaviors, and in our own minds.   Consider Raising Our Hands your starting place, your “Intro to Being a White Woman in Today’s World” freshman-year class. Here, Jenna peels back the history that’s been kept out of textbooks and the cultural norms that are holding us back, so we can finally start really listening to marginalized voices and doing our part to promote progress.   The American White woman is a powerful force - an essential participant - to mobilize alongside the rest of humanity on behalf of the world, and we can no longer make excuses for why we don’t have time or don’t know enough. ungekürzt. Risk taking in a fading marriage is well rewarded, and love does conquer all - in a way least expected but most fulfilling. Drowning in the depths of a failing marriage he deeply mourns, Harry remains a doting husband determined to revive his relationship with his wife, Samantha - the woman he still adores, wholeheartedly loves, and feels a desperate desire to prove his manhood to. Tested by childlessness, the fun, excitement, and intimacy that first drew the formerly passionate lovers together has long been stolen. Finding himself uncomfortably out of place in a seedy adult shop, Harry barely manages to escape his agony with a particularly enticing adult toy - a rather large one that seems to symbolize masculinity itself to the despondent husband. Driving home, Harry refuses to entertain the possibility that he may be idly imagining the provocative, oversized object can fulfill all of the hopes he's placed upon it and succeed in renewing the intimacy once shared with his beloved wife. Hidden in their bedroom upstairs in a frantic frenzy, the intimidating toy looms over the couple as they share another silent meal. Harry's mind wanders, distraught, anxious, and still hopeful, as he daydreams of the moment he employs the toy on his unsuspecting wife, much to her profound gratification. When the table is cleared and the couple readies for bed, Harry longs to touch the woman he loves so dearly and finds just as beautiful as the day he met her, as he struggles with the pressure of his intended performance and introducing her to the new addition to their nonexistent sex life. The first touch is all that's needed to shatter the torturous distance between them and allow the love and affection between Harry and Samantha to reconnect. As their passion grows and the kernel of shared hope is rekindled, Harry is handed everything he's hoped for in a way he couldn't possibly predict. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Me. Over the course of 30 days, Catherine will guide you through an easy-to-follow plan that enables you to identify your goals, priorities and bad habits, tidy your apps, prune your email and take time away. Lastly, you will create a new, healthier relationship with your phone and establish habits and routines to ensure this new relationship sticks. You don't have to give up your phone forever. Before someone tries to learn how to doodle he or she needs to understand what doodling actually is. The word doodle comes from German, and referred to a person who was a fool, or who was simple in some way. The modern meaning of the word, referring to small drawings done idly while one thinks, came about in the 1930s and might be connected to the word dawdle for someone who's wasting time. All of the history aside though, a doodle is nothing more than an unfocused or unconscious drawing, typically made while one's attention is supposed to be focused elsewhere. This is why doodles often show up in the margins of notebooks or on sticky notes at work; people who are tethered in place and stuck listening to a phone call, lecture, etc. will pick up a pen and begin to make small, unfocused drawings. These are doodles. How to DoodleThere's no right or wrong way to doodle, much as there's no right or wrong way to draw in the first place. Doodlers can use the margins of a notebook or a pad of sticky note reminders just as easily as they can use a pristine white sketchbook. A doodler can use a number 2 pencil, a ballpoint pen, or really any other drawing implement that he or she desires. As long as you have a medium, it's possible to doodle. When it comes time to start doodling it's important to let your mind wander and to focus on any creative idea it comes across. Perhaps you see a large letter A on your letterhead, and decide to draw vines encircling it like something out of an old book of Grimm's Fairy Tales. Maybe you decide to add roses to the vines, turning the A into a fully-fledged topiary. Perhaps you decide to put a castle on top of the pinnacle of the A. Maybe you draw the vines hanging down and swinging in an unseen breeze. Grab the book now to know more! ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Ginger Cucolo. Vegas Rules, book seven:Fresh from his victory in Reno, Sean's now in Las Vegas to fulfill his promise to help the lycans there with their own slavery problems. Then there are all those magic users who come to sin city to play, and many of them play rough when it comes to both the lycans and the mundanes. While shutting down those casinos that won't see reason will help, Sean still has to figure out ways to help Roxy's father and the others in their quest to rein in the worst of the excesses. They may say that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but the truth is, what happens in Vegas could very well send a notice to the rest of the nation councils that things are changing, and this lion plays for keeps.Desperate Measures, book eight:Things are starting to heat up for Sean and for some of his allies, as well. The Sacramento Vestibulum council is starting to act in ways that no one had anticipated, and the Gradatim national council is by no means standing idly by, either. When several of the councils decide to ban together in a move to eradicate Sean's followers and remove him, as well, Sean has no choice other than to try and teach them a painful lesson. But those aren't all the problems that Sean now has to deal with. More and more people are counting on him as the days go by, and the burdens he must shoulder are quickly growing. Between the magical work he must do, the people he must lead, the battles he has to fight, and the money he needs to earn, Sean barely has time for his wives, much less himself these days. And if dealing with the magic users isn't enough, there are some very "mundane" issues on the horizon that he may soon find himself dealing with as well.WARNING: The Valens Legacy: Publisher's Pack 4 contains explicit sexuality, nudity, violence, a guy who makes werewolves play fetch in the park for dog biscuits (they're really good biscuits, trust me; that's why they haven't killed him ungekürzt. Melinda Brandt is fiercely protective of her brothers, and has been since her mother's death at an early age. In fact, she has built her life and her career as sheriff on her ability to always maintain control. Now, it feels as if even that is slipping away from her. A madman (Charles Sanders) has entered her family's lives, causing her brothers to flee and leaving her all alone. Now an outside agency is moving in to take the case away from her, and she cannot bear to let it go. In a desperate attempt to regain control, Melinda goes outside of the law and leaves town with Charles' step-brother (Cale Winters) to track him down and bring him to her own brand of justice. On the road, she finds her primal self responding to Cale's presence, but how can she dare to let her guard down with so much on the line? When Cale first met Stanhope's sheriff, Melinda Brandt, it had not been under the best of circumstances, but he had felt an immediate attraction to this brunette tour de force. He had been forced to table his attraction, however as he had only come to the small Oklahoma town because his step-brother Charles had been arrested and he had promised his mom that he would act as his attorney. Cale has always felt responsible for Charles, but when he escapes and goes on the run after attacking members of Melinda's family, Cale knows he can no longer sit idly by. Pairing up with Melinda, the two strike out on the road to hunt down his brother. The longer they spend together, the more Cale begins to see through her tough exterior, but the closer he gets, the more she shuts him out. Will he be able to withstand the fire long enough to remain unbranded by her intensity or will her wild spirit remain untamed? When lives are on the line, can he choose this woman over the man who was raised as his brother? ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Lawrence D. Yaklin. First in an all-new suspense series! Here's an excerpt: Around the sides of the thick brown leather, Ash O'Malley made out a fleshy chin and thinning, brown hair threaded with gray covered in a thin layer of dirt and debris. She back-pedaled along the narrow strip of the path shed just traipsed down, losing her balance as she registered her boot print on the poor man's now-crushed his nose. She made a noise that sounded somewhere between a gag and a scream as she clutched her chest. This could not be happening. Not today. Then, his image clicked in her mind. She recognized the man, and her midsection rolled, pitched, and somersaulted over itself. She rose from her rump and crab-crawled, her hands plopping into her own footfalls, clearly visible next to several other tracks in the boggy soil. The man…the obviously dead man was Dr. Cockcroft, director of the Audubon Society. And now she'd stepped on her dead almost boss. "Nope, this cannot be happening," she whispered. She closed her eyes and pinched herself. A soft breeze brushed her overheated skin and the faint sounds of sluggish water siphoned through the tangled thoughts careening through Ash's head, bringing a much-needed stillness. She forced herself to look at the scene in front of her. Dr. Cockcroft lay half-buried in a slight ditch just off the pathway. Besides his trodden face-she winced and suppressed the urge to gag-he was bruised and bloody. Like he'd fallen from a great height. And his scalp, mangled…Ash stumbled even as her gaze searched out more potential cottonmouths. Seeing none, she gave in to her desire and fell forward to retch up the gumbo she'd eaten that morning-the gumbo she'd saved so she'd have a good meal to start her day.She kicked her feet into the dirt, struggling for purchase before she shot back the way she'd come, not unlike a sprinter. She fumbled for her phone, dirt and grit coating her hip as she struggled to pull it from her pants pocket. Her fingers shook but she managed to press 9-1-1. Her breath broke in a sob as the operator answered."A-a b-body. There's a dead body."She slid down the mangrove's trunk, heedless of its short, painful barbs digging through her blouse and into her skin. Her butt hit the boggy soil and harder roots and she winced, unable to take her eyes off the man. Ash forced herself to listen to the dispatcher's questions. She ignored the faint hum of gathering insects as they closed in around her sweat-drenched form. She closed her burning, too-dry eyes, unwilling to watch the bugs land on Dr. Cockcroft's exposed face. Ash understood the circle of life but that didn't mean she wanted to witness it this close up. She gave her location, head bent, forehead to her knees, phone mashed to her ear. Her fingertips tingled and her body felt heavy, biological responses to the scare. She stared at a leaf, a perfect specimen, and wondered idly if she was going into shock.
