As Cold as the Dead , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 337min
Hemmed in by the sounds of hundreds of zombies clacking their teeth in a merciless form of communication, survivors battle against legions of the undead whose elongated legs and arms give them bursts of speed and longer reaches to grab. With freezing temperatures and heavy snow enveloping the city, the echoing of chattering teeth bouncing off walls sends deepening shreds of fear into the survivors. Evading the reach, fearing the chatter, digging through the snow, and fighting to live is a battle which leaves survivors shivering, numb, and feeling as cold as the dead. ungekürzt. Death Is a Lonely Business , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 546min
Ray Bradbury, the undisputed Dean of American storytelling, dips his accomplished pen into the cryptic inkwell of noir and creates a stylish and slightly fantastical tale of mayhem and murder set among the shadows and the murky canals of Venice, California, in the early 1950s. Toiling away amid the looming palm trees and decaying bungalows, a struggling young writer (who bears a resemblance to the author) spins fantastic stories from his fertile imagination upon his clacking typewriter. Trying not to miss his girlfriend (away studying in Mexico), the nameless writer steadily crafts his literary effort - until strange things begin happening around him. Gloucester Crescent: Me, My Dad and Other Grown-Ups , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 533min
Gloucester Crescent is a curving, leafy street tucked between Camden Town and Primrose Hill, filled with the sound of clacking typewriters and children playing. It's unremarkable in many ways, unless you notice the lady in the van outside one house and the familiar-looking residents crossing the road.... Written through the eyes of a growing child, this is the story of a very particular family and their circle of brilliant, idealistic and intellectual friends in London in the '60s, '70s and '80s. We follow William through the ups and downs of childhood, as he explores the back gardens and homes of his famous neighbours, attends dramatic rehearsals with his dad, Jonathan Miller, fails exams and is bullied at school, gets drugs from the philosopher A. J. Ayer's wife, and tries to watch the moon landing with Alan Bennett and a room full of writers. Hilarious and at times heartbreaking, this is also about how we grow up and move on - and what happens when we come back. Not only a picture of an extraordinary time in Britain's cultural history - and a hitherto unseen portrait of some of the brightest minds of a generation - this book tells the funny, tender and moving story of a young boy trying to find his own identity. ungekürzt. Walking Home: Travels with a Troubadour on the Pennine Way , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 534min
In summer 2010 Simon Armitage decided to walk the Pennine Way. The challenging 256 mile route is usually approached from south to north, from Edale in the Peak District to Kirk Yetholm, the other side of the Scottish border. He resolved to tackle it the other way round: through beautiful and bleak terrain, across lonely fells and into the howling wind, he would be walking home, towards the Yorkshire village where he was born. Travelling as a 'modern troubadour' without a penny in his pocket, he stopped along the way to give poetry readings in village halls, churches, pubs, and living rooms. His audiences varied from the passionate to the indifferent, and his readings were accompanied by the clacking of pool balls, the drumming of rain and the bleating of sheep. Walking Home describes this extraordinary yet ordinary journey. It's a story about Britain's remote and overlooked interior - the wildness of its landscape and the generosity of the locals who sustained him on his way. It's about facing emotional and physical challenges and sometimes overcoming them. It's nature writing, but with people at heart. Contemplative, moving and droll, it is a unique narrative from one of our most beloved writers. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Simon Armitage. The Battle of the Coral Sea: The History and Legacy of World War II's First Major Battle Between Aircraft Carriers , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 108min
The growing buzz of aircraft engines disturbed the Japanese military construction personnel hauling equipment ashore on the beige coral sand of Tulagi Island at 8:20 AM on May 4, 1942. Offshore, the large IJN (Imperial Japanese Navy) minelayer Okinoshima, flagship of Admiral Shima Kiyohide, lay at anchor, along with two destroyers, Kikuzuki and Yutsuki, and transport ships. Six Japanese Mitsubishi F1M2 floatplanes also rested on the gentle, deep blue swell, marking Tulagi's future as an IJN floatplane base. The men on the beach, at inland construction sites, or aboard the Japanese ships, looked up towards the huge white cumulus clouds sailing on the ocean wind. Taken completely by surprise, the Japanese stood and stared as 13 sturdy-looking dive bombers dropped through the cumulus layer at 6,000 feet, plunging towards the IJN ships. As they streaked lower, the white star on a black disc insignia of American aircraft grew visible on the underside of each wing. As the dive bombers roared low, drowning out the soft clacking of palm-fronds agitated by the steady sea breeze, the dark capsule shapes of 1,000-lb bombs broke away from their undersides and hurtled towards the anchored ships. Amid the sudden thunder of explosions, huge fountains of white foam gushed upward, sparkling in the tropical sunlight before collapsing back into the sea. Only as the American Douglas SBD-3 Dauntless dive bombers began climbing out of their attack did the Japanese finally open fire with the four anti-aircraft guns set up on the Tulagi shore. ungekürzt. Dial "L" for Lesbian and "P" for Pain, Volume 2 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 53min, (USK 18)
I went home and took a long, hot bath and prepared myself for her. I wanted my body to be perfect when I undressed this evening. It was as if I was preparing myself for a sacrifice to a goddess. And in a way, I was. When I had determined that I was more than presentable to her, I left my home, got into my car, and proceeded on my way over to her house. I was a few minutes early. I looked at my watch and it was 6:57 p.m. I had noticed when I drove up that all the curtains were closed and all the lights were off. It appeared to me that no one was home. After parking my car in her driveway, I got out and walked toward her door. I noticed a paper taped to the door and as I got closer, I noticed large bold letters that read, “Come In. The Door Is Open". I checked my watch. It was now 6:59. I waited until it was exactly 7:00 and then I opened the door nervously and walked inside. It was completely dark inside. After walking inside more, I noticed a glow from a room near the hallway. Assuming that she was in there, I proceeded to walk towards the lit room. My high heels were clacking loudly on the hardwood floor. It was an eerie sound, since the house was in complete silence. The scenario was akin to the opening in a horror movie. My heart was racing. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Candy Kross. Audio sample: https://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/018511/bk_acx0_018511_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.- Shop: Audible

Love Me, Hurt Me: A Husband'sTale of Torture, Volume 3 , Hörbuch, Digital, ungekürzt, 58min, (USK 18)
It was my birthday and my wife, Karen, decided to give me a surprise. I had worked all day, so while I was at work, she spent the day preparing my birthday surprise for me. I had no idea what it was going to be, because if I had, I probably would have run out of the building as fast as my legs would have carried me. When I arrived home, Karen had me strip my clothes off and she blindfolded me. She then put some other clothes on me. From what I could tell, it was a tight pair of shorts, which I then felt and they were some type of soft rubbery material. She then put on a shirt that was made of lightweight material. I felt it and it felt like some sort of netting. I came to find out later that the material was called mesh. Karen then led me to her car and I got into the passenger's side, still blindfolded. I had no idea what was in store for me. She drove for about 20 minutes or so, I couldn't really tell, but four songs had played on the radio and some commercials, by the time she had stopped the car, so I figured it had been that long. Karen got out of the car and came around to my side and helped me out. "Keep your blindfold on and don’t take it off." She said in a tone that I had never heard come from her before. She guided me up some stairs and into a building. The floors were hardwood. I could tell because her high heeled shoes were clacking on the wood. ungekürzt. Language: English. Narrator: Candy Kross.
